bought this for roguetech but even the basegame is pretty cool and despite some mechanics differing from other BT/MW media its very accessible for people not familiar with MW/BT and a very good turn based game even when looking at it in a vacuum and not just as part of the wider BT/MW setting
i have 300 hours and i still install and play this game every now and again. does it have flaws? yes. is it pretty well its an 8 year old game so not really. my other favorite turnbased game is myth soulblighter it came out 1998 this is one of the few games that have scrached the same itch and i love it.
The game is great if you know what you are doing. It is easy to overextend yourself if you aren't careful. If you played games similar to this one, you probably know what you're in for. The only real issue I had was terrible loading times. It could be related to my personal PC, but it did seem like some of the larger maps took forever to load. Anyway, it has been the best turn-based mech game I've played to date. I really enjoy customizing my mechs, so this one has been a dream.
First two hours of the game had some moments of ragequitting, then once i got the hang of it i played nonstop for a whole weekend. Great game for any fans of the franchise, just takes a while to transition from realtime to turn based.
you have to be patient, but there is gold here.
took a bit to figure out, and some mods made it easier (a lot are older but easy to install). man i love mechs
If you're having issues with mech chatter or the campaign cutscenes not working, turn off Optimizations for windowed games setting *System > Display > Graphics. If that doesn't fix it you'll have to check the forums or google for other potential fixes, but this worked for me. This game is consuming my life atm. Armored Core may have introduced me to Mech games, but BATTLETECH has made me a fan of the genera! Gameplay is great, story in the campaign is good and engaging, and the game has the right amount of challenge to make progress really fell rewarding. Playing the campaign definitely helps to get a grasp on everything before jumping straight into the sandbox mode. There's tons of mechs to play around with, and a crazy amount of builds you can have with them too. Don't be turned off by the scope of it though, you can always look to see what the default loadout for them is if making your own is too daunting. Was for me at first. The default usually works fine, depending on the mech of course. If you're a turn based strategy fan, mech fan, or you just found the game and think it looks interesting I highly recommend checking it out! If you pick the game and DLC up on sale you'll definitely get your moneys worth here.
Play it with Roguetech mod package! Only game in my opinion that get better with mods even though it is good as is.
Played the board game in the 90's. This is better than my imagination.
