《Battleship Command》
This is a must‑buy for naval enthusiasts — even in early access
considering it's in early access and it's looking this good now i am excited for the finished product,I have played all of the silent hunter games, uboat, and destroyer command , i dare say this has the potential to be among the best games in the linup .The thing im most impressed with now that feels new is the detailed damage report screen
Cool sim:)
Good game for those who enjoy the ship artillery. I am interested to see how the developer goes forward with this game, hopefully add in more systems for the player to control.
Have been waiting for a game like this for a while. This is Early Access so don't expect a finished product, but it's very fun so far. Love being able to pace the bridge whilst my ship is dismantled around me.
Great graphics leading to quite immersive game experience. A bit limited in scope at the moment but could turn into great game.
Wanted a game like this ever since I played Silent Hunters III. It is everything I hoped it would be.
Battleship command is a game that puts you as a captain in the kriegsmarine in command of battleship scharnhorst during WW2 to sortie into the various oceans with the task of sinking allied transport ships and warships. If you like naval games and simulators i think you will definitely love this game as much as i do. The developer has made wonders and dreams happen for us naval fanatecs, being able to walk in first person across a battleship in detail and take command in various stations, using the well detailed and highly thoughtout fire control and radar screens, engaging enemy ships whilst taking in the ambience, graphics and scenery of the ocean is something only people who like these genre of games can really appreciate and value to its true level. For now whilst in EA the game currently has a set number of missions you can complete along with a mission editior which i havent yet tried out, the missions have been really fun so far and seem to ease you in nicely with some nice introductory tutorials to begin with in understanding how to operate the interface and ship. The user interface is nicely designed and easy to understand, the graphics whilst not jaw dropping are more than fine and still let you appreciatte the lovely detail that the developer has put into the Scharnhorst and the escorting ships eg Hipper, Graf spee. The ocean looks very realistic and the gun smoke upon firing along with the gun barrels moving is a great piece of authentic attention to detail along with visual damage on the ship, one of the pieces i was honestly amazed at is the recon plane that is fully animated which rotated and launched from the ships catapult with incredible movement and when it lands on the water it comes down with such realism, it slowly trundles on the water at slow speed rocked by the waves till it comes by the side of your ship (only when stationary - great detail) where the scharnhorsts crane will rotate and hoist down to pick up the plane and place it back onto its catapult! now i know that sounds mad to go crazy about but i was honestly amazed and my jaw dropped at the level of detail thats been put into that mechanic, ive yet to play a game which does it to that degree of detail, il never get tired of watching that! with firing the guns you can do yourself or let the AI do the job for you so you can choose and its nice the option is their for people who want to watch the scenery or perhaps have more/less skill than others with using the fire control. The dynamic weather with day/night is a very nice touch with absolutely beautiful sun rises with reflections across the water and clouds. As for other things, when you are on a mission you are sometimes accompanied by friendly kriegsmarine vessels which are in formation by default, you can set these to go off and attack on their own, set them back in formation and adjust their positions as you want which is a nice touch. The map is well designed and makes it easy to set way points and view what ships are where, this is a full scale map so the time compression is a nice touch to use when needed after you have stopped admiring how pretty this game is in the sunrise. --- Areas of improvement/ Issues i noticed I think this game is amazing for the price, especially even as more gets added however no game is perfect and there were some things that i noticed which seemed unclear/still a work in progress/being developed, there maybe some things which i wasnt aware of or didnt figure out so i apologise to bracer and would appreciatte any clarity on the things i maybe got wrong as i still work my way through this gem of a game! 1. The damage control system, the game features a screen which displays a 3D statue model of the ship which colour codes areas of damage and highlights things like flooding/fires and when your weapons are damaged, hull damage, boiler and propulsion damage aswell as their wear and tear on the barrels and fuel level. This is amazing detail however to me when i took damage i could see where and how the status of the ship was but the game wasnt clear to me on where and how the damage was being fixed/mitigated, fires seemed to go out themselves after sometime but the flooding seemed to get to 100% in 3 or 4 compartments overtime and whilst my ship never sank and i was still able to complete the mission i struggled in finding how to deal with the damage taken as i just seen on the screen that the crew were dealing with the flooding - which looks like they are auto assigned to any section of the ship that begins to flood but the flooding never reduced, maybe im missing something but i just unfortunately couldent seem to figure it out. With the boilers it let me click on them to "start maintenance" but again i couldent really see if that was doing anything to any affect, i think the game could greatly benefit from a tutorial in management of damage control on the ship. Again this is early access so im fully understanding in that this may be on this way! 2. During the mission wolf i believe its called where you have to intercept the transport ship whilst dealing with royal navy ships then travel to madiera i sank the enemy battleship in probably 15 salvos over a few minutes, the enemy destroyer however took me what felt like 20 minutes+ and it was still moving and adjusting its rudder like a rocket ship even whilst listing and caused the majority of damage/flooding to my ship, way more than the renown it felt as though the HP pools were the wrong way around because the renown BB went down like it was made of paper but the destroyer was an absolute juggernaut! i used about 250 shells to sink it alone! of course not everyone was a hit but i felt like he was invincible until 20 minutes later, not sure if HP pools maybe are too high for destroyers? 3. Night time is extremely dark ( obviously as you would expect in the middle of the ocean) however you can barely see anything at all and when i was fighting them enemy ships it was all in the dark and whilst the starshells help 100% when you are in just normal cruising not in combat you can also use the spotlight to light up the surrounding ocean/nearby ships it that doesnt seem to illuminate any part of the deck of the ship on the bridge so your still walking around in pitch darkness apart from the edge of the bow when the spotlight is aimed forwards, i couldn't seen to find a way to lock the light in place instead of it always following my mouse cursor too? I think some ambient lights that illuminate the ship would be welcome (again sorry if ive missed anything bracer !) --- Other suggestions A few little suggestions from me 1. A small icon in first person view which shows where your plane is in the sky 2. An update to show the plane icon on the small minimap ( ships are shown but during my playtime the plane didnt seem to be shown ? 3. When the plane detects a contact it doesnt give a bearing of where from your ship i think this and a icon on the horizon in 1st person could maybe be useful? 3. An update to show a line of direction/bearing of facing that your captain is currently looking on the main map and minimap, i think this would help when trying to look at things detected/islands etc. ----- Future plans - Im so greatful for the work and effort that bracer has put into this gem!, it has beyond words huge huge potential to be something of one of the best naval games out there. im really excited to see the campaign when it lands. Perhaps there could be more crew management systems added, more life and lower deck exploration to the ship, interactions with cities/ports to gather resources. captain rank system with unlockable ship upgrades which could be done by getting bronze/silver/gold medals from certain objectives. I know people have their opinions but I think the Scharnhorst was a great choice for this game! Many thanks Bracer and the developers! - More in comments due to limit
