It's basically a respectful remake of Dune II but with cute little improvements and changes. Nothing more, nothing less. For a dinosaur like myself - it's a must have.
Solid little classic RTS. I appreciate the effort put into the sound design, it sounds excellent. Battles are quite dynamic, with resources running out and the AI having to expand. You can run the AI dry by cutting off their supplies, which is nice.
For less than $10 its a nice little experience. I haven't finished the game, let alone a single campaign, but it's surprisingly challenging. Simple, but not easy. All three factions share a few units, but also have unique units as well, but even the shared units have slightly different stats that play into a faction identity. There are a few gripes I have however: *The UI is clunky, especially the encyclopedia (great addition btw, absolutely love having it, just wish it was a little easier to navigate and less bulky) *You can't rebind controls, which is a major personal gripe but I'll live *While not a major negative for me, I should note the lack of difficulty options. Just a single fairly challenging, difficulty *I would also like to see skirmish mode, maybe even a map creator, especially if there isn't multiplayer. I understand, multiplayer can be tough, but having more options is great for single player games *Unit pathing (especially the worker bots) can be clunky Other than these few gripes, the game is a fun experience, and worth the price I say.
This would be a "neutral" review if they didn't all have to be thumbs-up or thumbs-down. I think it's an interesting take on Dune 2, and you can see from my avatar that I'm a fan of Dune 2. The thing is, I hate micro, and see it as a gameplay defect rather than a feature, and this game is much heavier on micro than Dune 2 or Command & Conquer were. So, I'm not really enjoying it, but if you enjoy micro (as most RTS players do) then you'll probably have a good time.
Great RTS that is very old school drawing from westwood studios and other rts games. Solid campaigns. I recommend to those who enjoyed command and conquer, warcraft, and other games. Its single player only but I enjoyed its mission variety despite being simple in terms of units, buildings, tech.
Extremly fun yet simple game, if you love the dune games (speaking off dune 2 or 2000) you will genuinly enjoy it, it does have also plenty of original ideas. The factions are genuinly different with some shared among units like the basic rifle soldier how ever the differences like quad tanks and raptors or vultures, different units like the toxic troopers keep them really apart from each other. The gameplay is also geniunly super simple yet a bit hard too master, balancing economy for defensive buildings, when too expand and when to make your military army can be engaging and feels great when you master it. It's NOT a perfect game, things can die really quick, the AI may be a little too tough especially in the early bits off the game, and there is no multiplayer OR even a skirmish mode, im not so sure how the game is doing so far but i do hope more people will get this and i do hope the developer gets some more attention for classic rts fans like me. again id love to have a multiplayer mode that i can invite my friends in or a skirmish mode were we fight against AI or each other, but i get that it keeps the costs low. Any ways for the price id recomend it and you'll have a couple of good hours spend here!
Great game! Dune 2 with Starcraft controls (best RTS control-scheme IMO). Hope there is a sequel (with the same pixel graphics) which has coop missions, a map editor, and replays. Call me old or whatever, but I really love this art style. I really hope more devs make 2D RTS games instead of those ugly Unity/Unreal Engine 3D RTS games where, honestly, the graphics aren't as timeless as isometric 2D sprites. Also, I wish more RTS games used a standard starcraft-like control scheme. Having to relearn controls for every RTS is why I think the genre doesn't become more popular. FPS games have a standard control scheme that translate to all other FPS games, but for RTS it just seems to be the wild west when it comes to the controls.
If you like RTS, especially the classic ones, then you should definitely try it! This game has such an eye-pleasing design. This, in combination with well done sound design gives amazing vibes. I would say that combat is dynamic, so you'll not be bored. Missions are not that easy especially for someone like me who is a total RTS newbie. I had so much fun and I'll definetely spend more time trying to complete all missions and achievements. I appreciate the fact that demo is available and you can test the game before buying it. Battle for Vera deserves to gain more fans and enjoyers. We should support small and independent creators. So don't hesitate and just try it out! You'll not regret that! :) (I've received this game for free but this review is NOT sponsored. I got a free copy because I wanted to play this game on stream.)
