BasketBelle

"Экспериментальный основанный на баскетболе 2D-платформер", как пишет о своей игре разработчик. Эксперимент, безусловно, вышел удачным. А вот сама игра какая-то получилась совсем куцая. И часа не нужно, чтобы пройти её на все концовки, получить все ачивки и выбить все карточки. И за это платить 129 рублей?? Многовато что-то. Лучше уж подождать скидки. Вот только, судя по steamdb, они случаются один-два раза в год. Но ставить из-за этого отрицательную оценку совсем не хочется. Слишком уж разнообразны уровни. Слишком уж необычен геймплей. Слишком хорош дизайн. Слишком интригует простенький сюжет. Слишком хороша концовка (любая из). Единственное, что хочется покритиковать - это однообразную музыку. А так - остаётся лишь сожалеть, что такая хорошая идея не получила должного продолжения. Может быть, когда-нибудь автор вспомнит о своём творении и выпустит BasketBelle 2, уже серьёзную по продолжительности. Эх, мечты, мечты....

BasketBelle is an awesome little basketball adventure. I picked it up as part of Indie Royale's Harvest Bundle way back around 2012, and it was easily one of my favourite games of that year. I picked it up again recently to give it another go and grab the achievements, and was reminded just how good it is. It's extremely short, clocking in at about an hour at most. And the controls are really simple - you've got left and right movement, jumping/shooting the ball, sliding, and fakeout shots. That's it. But BasketBelle is a clear example of how quality shines over quantity - it might just be an hour, but it'll be a highly enjoyable and engrossing hour, and to me that is absolutely worth the price of admission. Every chapter changes things up and incorporates Basketball into the game in a different way. You'll go up against humans, weird blob creatures, traverse the insides of a weird blob creature after getting gobbled up, and so much more. As you go through the game you also get these cool little flashes of narrative involving love, hardships, and family; and it's engrossing all the way through. I don't know how to describe the visual style because I've never really seen anything else like it, but it's absolutely beautiful. As is the music - easily one of my favourite parts of the game (and the soundtrack is included, by the way), and the beat is synced up with the basketball dribbles, which is pretty awesome. All in all, if you have an hour or so and want to check out something cool and unique, I definitely recommend Basketbelle, even for the $5. There are so many games out there these days that in my mind quality of hours is exponentially more important than quantity, and Basketbelle is a special experience that I don't think you'll regret checking out.
