B-Queen – Eiffelturm 89:70
So where's the next adventure? The ocean, The mountains, And the stars. Blast off! :DD
An interesting mix of short story, platforming, and ... basketball? It's fun for a bit and it's only about an hour long but it's neat.
Introduction
BasketBelle is a unique platformer with basketball elements.
Pros & Cons
Pros: + Unique gameplay mechanics + Unusual visual style + Wholesome story Cons: - Very short (less than 1 hour to beat) - 24 FPS animations look a bit choppy
Story
The plot is simple; you play as a boy in search of his sister, who was kidnapped by a purple alien goo. There’ll be a lot of obstacles in your path and you’ll beat them with the power of basketball. While simple, the story is still interesting and has lots of heartwarming moments. The ending fills you with warmth and leaves you wishing for more.
Gameplay
It’s an unusual take on the platformer genre that mixes in some ball throwing. Each chapter provides a unique challenge. Sometimes it’s just basketball, with you trying to get through the opponent and score a goal. Sometimes it’s a puzzle where you have to figure out a correct order of pressing buttons and find the best place to throw the ball from. And sometimes you soar through the skies while dodging lightning bolts! Right up until the end, the game finds ways to surprise you.
Graphics & Audio
The selling point of the game is its unusual visuals. It’s so fluid and stylish, so it feels like you’re watching a cartoon and not real gameplay. Although the animation looks great, sometimes it feels choppy and unresponsive due to low FPS limit. The soundtrack is on par with the visuals, the music always matches up with action on screen perfectly. If you like chiptune music, a couple of this game’s tracks might make it into your playlist.
Performance
Specs: AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU 8GB, 32GB RAM. The game’s framerate is capped at 24 FPS. It also doesn’t feature any graphical settings apart from the fullscreen/windowed mode selector. There are no technical issues whatsoever.
Conclusion
BasketBelle is a short but sweet platformer with unique gameplay and stylish visuals. It’s a great game to spend your evening on, especially if you like games like Limbo and INSIDE.
Very cute little game, I recommend everyone to play through it just once, as there is no replayability at all.
unless you are like me
Can basketball save the day? Well, if you've ever seen someone pull off a half-court shot at the buzzer, you'd know it's possible! In this experimental platformer set against a dreamy Parisian backdrop, you play as a boy on a mission to rescue his sister, armed with nothing but basketball skills. You’ll be dunking under a moonlit sky while navigating the rustic cardboard charm and vibrant colors of Paris. The creativity is rich, making the game a visual and auditory slam dunk. You dribble and dunk through obstacles in a heartwarming story that feels like a cartoon come to life. The soundtrack perfectly syncs with the action, featuring reaction sounds that might just inspire some hoop dreams. The game cleverly blends basketball with platforming, offering challenges from classic gameplay to intricate puzzles and sky-high dodging. Each chapter brings fresh surprises, keeping things as unpredictable as a half-court buzzer-beater. Sometimes you’re playing basketball, other times you're solving puzzles that make you feel like a superhero, or leave you wondering if there's a trick shot for sibling rescue. Despite minor control quirks, the game’s charm and originality shine through. With its captivating visuals, fantastic soundtrack, and unpredictable gameplay, this platformer is a good game worth dribbling over to.
Game is really short. Easy game to get 100% achievements in about an hour. I actually liked the shortness of the game, if you get it on sale recommend it if you like platformers with surreal elements. There's not much story to it, but you may like it, it's nothing really related to playing basketball, it's more platforming with some puzzle elements to figure out how to score. In the last level you can get 3 different endings.
