In this city-building strategy game, you control a group of exiled travelers who decide to restart their lives in a new land. They have only the clothes on their backs and a cart filled with supplies from their homeland. The townspeople of Banished are your primary resource.

EDIT: My first review (look under here) was very negative. On my second try I do like it. BUT it is very slow and it doesn't look like there is any research or money involved. I would not buy it at full price (then I would rather buy Kingdoms Reborn or Settlement Survival and even Patron). FIRST REVIEW: You have to like really slow games to play it. For me the game is just borring. The point with the game is to find a balance. Growth takes time. I even tried it with mods to see if that made things less borring, but no it's not (I only tried it with a few minor mods). Most of the time I just let the game run on high speed and did other things. If you are looking for a city builder or a game similar to CivCity Rome then this is not the game for you. To me it don't look like this is a game for the average city builder gamer.

As with all games, there is a learning curve. If you enjoy city building games, this is good, It has it's own style, which seems easy to adopt to.
I absolutely love Banished. I have made some massive cities in it and it is very enjoyable. I love that there is no gating: all the buildings are available from the outset and it is up to you to determine what you village can support. It takes some experimenting and getting used to for sure, but it is worth it. I think my least favorite system of the game is the way that population growth works: in Banished if your city isn't growing, it's dying. You can quickly get into death spirals if you aren't careful and aging out a population because you didn't build enough new housing is one of the silliest. You constantly have to have new house, year after year, to avoid your population getting too old to reproduce itself. You can also, eventually, get immigrants who want to join your community... but that isn't the most consistent way to grow. Overall, I love Banished as a very solid game that gives you all the tools you need to grow a city in a way that feels organic.
decided to dig this one out the the old games i got years ago and it was worth it. The game still feels pretty modern and on top of that its actually challenging to play for a city builder. requires you to both look after your people and also your supply chains which is easier said than done. If you enjoy the big city builders then this one is worth checking out even if it is a bit older now.
