You're back, but the entire dream is empty. All residents have evacuated, and the reason is you. The walls are covered with a number of hurtful messages, but the most common one is - "You can keep the whole city to yourself, but DON'T FOLLOW US, YOU MONSTER!"

About
After all these years your bad dreams are back but something is terribly wrong... It's a surreal and dark nightmare but people seem to be scared and disgusted by... you?
Only the old, sick and unable to evacuate remained in the city. Everyone else fled. Even though there are strange monsters roaming around the city, people hide strictly from you. "You can keep the whole city to yourself, but you are not welcome among us." - This is the message that was left for you in the letter. The reason is not clear. Maybe you were simply mistaken for someone else?

Everyone who loved previous Bad Dreams games, this new one is a must see. It has the same melancholic vibes, and we get to visit some familiar places and meet old characters, so there's a connection to the whole BD lore which fans definitely will appreciate. What makes Afterlife to stand out is the variety of styles (for example, co-existence of paper drawings and real life items framing them) and puzzles (which are more challenging than in previous games, but that makes you try harder to solve them and experience "aha, I get it now!" moments throughout the eerie, but surprisingly captivating journey). Desert Fox especially did great job with handling needed balance between dark and light (both literally and metaforically): you're fully immersed into this unique and strange world, and the further you're going, the more you like how Afterlife makes you feel about certain things. It's clearly the same world we learned to love in previous DF productions, but with a different approach to issues highlighted by the developer in the past. There's some unexpected levity to it, like it's not depression anymore, but more of a journey of acceptance. In the end while we're all fragile creatures in the big and fascinating universe, we're also liked to be remembered and cherished for our short time on the Earth. In this sense Bad Dream: Afterlife is quite meta - after all, Desert Fox is a one man creation, and all these Bad Dreams are his legacy which, without any doubt, he should be proud as we're. Well done! I enjoyed the experience and recommend this game to all who either liked previous Bad Dreams games or just a newbie which wants to go into exciting journey fitting for the month of horrors. Just be patient and resilient with solving puzzles and you'll be rewarded plenty! P.S. I don't know why my playtime incorrectly shows here, I spent hours playing this game.
I'll be honest, not really that good. I really loved Bad Dream: Coma and Bad Dream: Fever. Those two titles will always be my favourites from the dev, but this title feels like it really didn't hit that same level of quality and intrigue. The puzzles didn't make much sense at times and the length of the game was quite short given the price. There was a lot of potential that feels missed in this title and I can't think of any reason why there felt like so little polish compared to prior titles.
Loving this game so far! I haven't had to look up a walkthrough yet surprisingly haha. I've played all the other games in this series, and it's one of my favs! I love the artwork, the weird puzzles that make no sense, and the overall atmosphere of the game. Please don't stop making these games Desert Fox!
Reasumując, Bad Dream: Afterlife to krok w najlepszym możliwym kierunku, jeżeli chodzi o serię Bad Dream, a nawet całą twórczość Desert Fox. This is a wonderful work! It’s like a flashback looking back at all your previous works over the years. And Nicolas appeared—this made me so happy,❤ I really like him a lot. If I can play your new works again in the future, I’ll feel incredibly happy.Love from player and cursor.
The bad dreams games has a very distinct vibe, but people seams to have forgotten about the series, the first two entries in the series has 2000 and 1000+ reviews, but the three latest ones has dropped to low double digits, even if the receptoion is almost entirely positive ones, and that's a shame. Atmospheric creepy horror is one of my favourites in games so i really like this series. The artstyle is simple, but does have it's own identity, and is definitly recognizable. Gameplay is typical inventory puzzles with weird dream logic by design due to the entire theme of the games, but if you are allergic to moon logic, then you might not like this, even if this one was more straight forward than some of the previous games (or have I just got used to how the dev thinks and design puzzles). Fairly easy 100% with the chapter selection, there are some obscure things you need to do, but if you know what to do, you can probably get back to that point in a couple of minutes for most of them.
