Crim's Humble Opinion Curator
Your Pong has Evolved into....
Hypergalactic Psychic Table Tennis 3000 is a game of pong with a few twists. It starts out as simple pong but you soon start leveling up which allows you to increase your size and learn skills. Keep playing and battling and you'll soon be shooting fireballs, teleporting, and reading minds. There are a variety of enemies that you face over the course of the game. Each game you play to three vs the AI. There are two hundred levels in a loop and after that you can either new game plus it or you can start from scratch. You can also go through romance dialogues with the bosses. You hit a boss every ten levels or so; so that makes 20 romancable paddles. You can stylize yourself with fancy treasure you find along the way which is neat.
The Minor Gripes
There are a variety of shapes, sizes, and speeds when it comes to enemies but that's really about it. Occasionally you will have a boss shoot fireballs at you; but other than that there isn't much variety to enemies. The bosses feel like they need something a bit more to make them a boss or to distinguish them from common enemies. The treasures are cool but there's really no way to keep what you like if you wish to get something else. Let's say you get a hat you like but you hate the pants. Go searching for treasure and you replace the hat. Tough luck; you'll just have to keep searching till you get a combo you like and not search again.

(っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ pros ♥
+Fun twist on pong +Variety of powers +New game plus
(っ>▬<)っ x cons x
-Enemies could use abilities variety -No inventory system for found treasure
For the low asking price; some of my gripes are really minor. While I hope they will be improved; I'm still satisfied with the game. It's pong but with some fun twists and quirks. Give it a go if you enjoy the classic. There is no reason not to get this RIGHT NOW. Made it to Level015 so far and i will be back for more. Weird? Yes. Expensive? No. Fun? DEFINITELY YES.
Pong is something virtually everyone is familiar with. The computer game was one of the first-ever created and made it to several of the first home consoles. Its familiar mechanics mimicked existing sports like tennis and table tennis so that everyone was immediately comfortable playing. Hypergalactic Psychic Table Tennis 3000 takes this universal familiarity and makes it unquestionably weird, but kinda fun.
A few minutes of pong
The game starts with the classic black and white minimalistic rendition of Pong that anyone would recognize. You play a few volleys and win, but now you get a screen that says you’ve leveled up. A couple of matches in, you and your opponent get a health bar. Every bounce of the ball ticks away at it. Things are starting to get a little strange. Soon, you unlock new backgrounds and the ability to move freely around the screen rather than just up and down on your side. You can even cross the “net” in the middle if you choose. The backgrounds get new colors that, when touched, take away from your health bar. They can feature blue, red, and green areas representing water, fire, and poison. You can even unlock a unique and sometimes downright great soundtrack in the process. Now the odd design evolves to a new level. As you defeat more opponents and level up, you will add to stats that affect things like the power with which you hit the ball or your overall health. You can even make your paddle larger and longer (that’s what she said). You can start to unlock spells and these run the gamut from a simple fireball to temporarily freezing your opponent in place. Of course, your opponents have their own set of abilities and will use them against you to whittle away at your health or make you miss. The divergence from Pong doesn’t end here though.
Dialogue Pong
Occasionally, you’ll be presented with dialogue options for your unique opponents that, if properly navigated, produce some sort of positive reaction. These generally have something to do with the name (and sometimes design) of the opponent. They’re considered “romancing” options, but they seem to do nothing to change the actual gameplay. This brings me to one of my biggest issues with Hypergalactic Psychic Table Tennis 3000. There’s little to no explanation for what is going on for the much of the game. Some abilities you gain don’t seem to have a tangible effect. There is a short description when you first unlock them, but it usually forgoes an explanation for a joke. The secondary abilities of some skill point increases don’t have an identifiable effect either. They may say that they help unlock new abilities, but it’s hard to tell if they do at all. This issue extends to the level structure of the game. Every ten levels a boss fight occurs, which is the most challenging portion of the game, but little else is so predictable. I went through more than 150 levels and didn’t know if it was supposed to end or not. I assumed that since I was getting repetitive encounters with some of the same enemies, the game would go on indefinitely. However, there’s no explanation in the game or anywhere I can find.
Saved by the Sale
If there’s one thing that saves Hypergalactic Psychic Table Tennis 3000, it’s the $2 base price tag. This game offers some entertaining twists on classic gameplay with some genuinely funny text and voice clips (reminiscent of Duke Nukem). The fact that you can jump in for an hour or so and have a memorable and enjoyable experience is certainly worth the dollar or two you’ll spend to get this. That adds some value to a game that is otherwise repetitive and limited in its scope. Just enough value to justify getting it just to try out at some point. At its core, it's still pong... But so much more! Magic and level ups, crazy opponent paddle designs, story and romance, dungeon crawling and equipment loot, mounts... It's paddle batty crazy! Most definitely worth checking out at that low price, also. https://youtu.be/-X6MH-MG1es
Pong is my favorite dating sim, glad to see a sequel was made.
#1 dating sim for self-aware rectangles
The developers clearly had a cool idea here, but could not figure out how to carry it to the finish line. After going through an entire cycle of 200 rounds, what I have to say is that the game has several interesting concepts layered on top of a really boring game called Pong, and no matter how you slice and dice it, it's still just Pong. The fact that there is nothing really to give you a break from playing freaking Pong is probably the game's biggest flaw, because if there was some overworld or side activity, the flow would likely be way better, but as it is, the game itself literally asks you "this is sort of boring, isn't it?" and every paddle you talk to seems to agree with that. They will say "oh, yet more fighting, this is meaningless", which is meant to be funny or a meta commentary on the genre, but just ends up reflecting what the experience feels like. Were it half of its length, which it could easily have been, it would be a way tighter and more pleasant experience. You can feel the writing that starts off really strong slipping away from the developer's hands, as the text devolves into the realm of the generically macabre instead of the intriguing. As the grind goes on and not enough is happening to keep you interested, you have to rely on its gimmicks to carry you all the way to its "ending", where it loops like a NES game for you to try harder playing 200 more rounds of the same thing. It's sort of neat, mind you, and there is certainly a public out there for it, but I can't really recommend.
This is just a Pong clone with little more. I was under the impression that it would be like Pong at start but eventually with all the upgrades/stats/health/mana/abilities etc it would turn into some crazy RPG PvE. But nope, it just doesn't. Fifteen matches later this is still basic Pong with a few minor gimmicks that have little to no impact on the actual gameplay. You just watch the ball slowly go from one end to the other hoping that AI would randomly be dumb enough to miss it. That's the whole game. Watching paint dry is ought to be more entertaining than this. It's only fun in the trailer.
