Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.86/day in the week to Aug 23 → 1.29/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

It has some real problems. The first night I got it, I played it for like 7 hours in that "just one more run" mode you get with these games sometimes. It starts off great. It does not stay great, however, and the rougher parts really take away from it. Compared to some other games, the bad runs don't make me feel like I could have done anything to improve it or win. They just feel awful, and the good runs don't really feel good enough later on to merit toughing it out. It's a really nice concept, but they'd have to put a lot more time into fleshing it out to really shine. Contrary to what some others have said, they just put out a rework for a character, so it's not dead or anything, just slow going. Slow is fine with me, so I hope it gets there eventually.
Can´t say I would recommend it. It´s fun, has funny lore, the mechanics are engaging... But the mountain of bugs... oh man. And game is seemingly abandonware already. Not really worth the money it costs

In the state that it's in it should state it's an early access or a beta, lots of bugs and story content feels quite unfinished and unpolished, yet the game hasn't received a single update in 2025, nothing not even a bug fix. It is unclear if the devs have abandoned the game or are suffering from creative drought, but I don't expect them to ever be able to polish this game to a point it deserves
Buggy abandonware. Avoid.
This game feels like an unfinished mess to play.
I don't understand all the 'hate' in the reviews recently. -- Yes the game has not been updated since December of 2024, Yes I bought this game in December of 2025 and have had no glitches and have around 50 hours played at this point. Just because the devs aren't still updating the game doesn't mean it is a problem... If you enjoy Rogue-likes, deck builders, or inventory management games, you'll enjoy this. Same goes for pixel art/retro gaming. Play the 'story mode'!!! The first few runs you'll do are pretty easy and they're setup to get you a couple of easy wins so you can get some basic gear and learn how to build your settlement. At 50 hours I have about 70% of the achievements done (I have not read any of them, that's just natural progression for me) and I have 4 out of the 5 playable characters. They all have tons of scenarios to play and beat in order to unlock newer and better gear in subsequent runs. I don't find the game all that difficult but the challenges you get as you progress do become pretty hard to beat. Each of the 5 PCs do have completely different and unique play-styles though. You've got to master them all to complete the story but you'll definitely have one you prefer. The settlement piece really isn't given any tutorial at all and while it is simple, there are some things to it that you'll just figure out on your own as the game doesn't teach you all of it. The NPCs and PCs are fairly forgettable characters, I know the names of a few of them but overall their dialogue is not important. Overall though, I'd say this game is a solid 3.5/5. It has hooked me in and I find myself playing it any chance I get right now.
Backpack Hero is a creative roguelike that stands out by turning inventory management into the main gameplay mechanic. Instead of just collecting items, you have to carefully arrange them in your backpack to create stronger builds and synergies, which makes every run feel like a small puzzle. The core idea is very unique and can be surprisingly addictive once you start experimenting with different item combinations. That said, the game has a few rough edges. Some parts of the progression and side systems can feel repetitive or underdeveloped, and the interface can be a bit clunky at times. Overall, it’s a solid roguelike with a clever concept. If you enjoy strategy, build experimentation, and inventory-based mechanics, it’s definitely worth trying.
I've put a frankly obscene amount of hours into such a simple game, but it still has me playing at least a few hours every week even though it hasn't seen an update in almost two years. I tend to play when I'm eating, or watching something that requires more attention than other games would allow. Really wish the developers would come back to it.
Very rough and unpolished. Backpack Hero tries to do too many things in a game and ultimately misses the mark on many of them.
