Nice take on the metroidvania genre with tons of hidden stuff to discover. Great selection of weapons and some unique gadgets. Kinda reminiscent of Metroid 1, though a lot smoother and more modern. The graphics are simple, but some of the artwork is very cool. Has a nice little sci-fi story that unfolds at certain key points along the way. Took me 9 years to play this since its release, but would definitely recommend if you like metroidvanias. Also, perfectly suited to the Steam Deck!
Wonderful game. Very fun, lots of weapons, options, and secrets. The story is confusing and weird, but that's fine for a game this fun. I had to look up the FAQs on Steam, as the game leaves a lot unexplained. The soundtrack is fantastic.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,515 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

This is a quite enjoyable metroidvania! I took too long to get around to trying it but I'm glad I took the look. I suppose it's not really Earth-shattering and the controls... exist, but this thing kept me peeking and poking around and trying out all' the bazillion or so weapons I was surprised to find it had crammed into it ':D I rarely manage to finish games but I did make it through this one, so maybe that counts for something too.
Pretty solid game. The soundtrack bangs and it feels satisfying most of the time when you aren't backtracking for an hour. Runs well on steam deck.
Basically, if you like the classic Metroid's, you'll like this.
A Love Letter to Classic Metroidvanias Done Right

# 🇺🇸 English 👍 **Recommended** ## 🎮 First Impressions I waited far too long to play **Axiom Verge**, and honestly, I wish I had picked it up sooner. If you're a fan of classic metroidvanias, you'll immediately recognize the inspiration, but this never feels like a simple copy of *Metroid*. It builds its own identity through clever mechanics and an unforgettable atmosphere. Within the first hour, I was already checking every suspicious wall and wondering what secret I'd missed. That's usually a good sign. --- ## 🔥 Gameplay Exploration is easily the biggest strength. The world is packed with hidden paths, optional upgrades, and areas you'll naturally revisit after unlocking new abilities. Backtracking never feels like padding because there's almost always something worthwhile waiting for you. Combat is equally enjoyable thanks to the variety of weapons. Different enemies encourage experimenting instead of relying on a single favorite gun throughout the game. The real standout, though, is the **Glitch Gun**. It's one of the most original mechanics I've seen in the genre, letting you manipulate enemies and parts of the environment in ways that constantly keep exploration interesting. --- ## 🎨 Graphics & Audio The pixel art has aged incredibly well. Every area feels strange, alien, and slightly unsettling, perfectly matching the game's mysterious atmosphere. Rather than chasing realism, it creates a memorable visual identity that still stands out today. The soundtrack is another highlight. Its electronic style fits the lonely sci-fi setting perfectly and does a fantastic job of pulling you deeper into the world. Performance remains smooth throughout the entire adventure. --- ## ⚖️ Difficulty & Progression The difficulty feels fair. Some bosses require patience and pattern recognition, but victories always feel earned rather than lucky. Progression is incredibly satisfying because every new ability changes how you interact with the world. Returning to previous areas is consistently rewarding instead of feeling like busywork. --- ## 🧩 Fun & Replayability This is the kind of game that constantly rewards curiosity. There's always another hidden room, another collectible, or another upgrade waiting for players willing to explore beyond the obvious path. Even after finishing the story, it's easy to come back for 100% completion or simply experience the world again with a better understanding of its secrets. --- ## ✅ Final Verdict **Axiom Verge** understands exactly what makes classic metroidvanias so addictive. It respects the genre's roots while introducing enough original ideas to feel unique, and its exploration remains one of the most rewarding I've experienced in years. If you enjoy getting lost in interconnected worlds filled with secrets, this is an easy recommendation. **⭐ Recommended for fans of Metroid, Hollow Knight, Blasphemous, Environmental Station Alpha, and anyone who loves exploration-driven games.**

Didn't much like the aimlessness. Probably a reflection of the genre, not just this game. Date Completed: 2026-06-25 Playtime: 9h Enjoyment: 6/10 Recommendation: Meh
For me, this one felt like playing Super Metroid for the first time, back in ´95.
