This is a masterpiece. Amazing Metroidvania with a great sound track. For once I actually used all the guns in a game.
It's time to wake up
The most Metroid Metroid clone. Also very very good. Gets a little esoteric at the end, and the hard mode is a bit tedious in terms of enemy health, but I can easily recommend. Also ends up having a pretty solid story despite the amnesia plot. A must play for exploration action platformer (metroidvania) lovers.

played this mostly on Wii U (gasp!) through unofficial means. then i heard about the man himself and mentally tugged my collar homer simpson style. he has a great name btw. metroidvania that is more metroid than vania, massively inspired by the NES original and H.R. Giger's works, with cool story themes, and cool music. doesn't feel like anus to play like most NES games. EDIT: 7/3/24: One of the parts I love about the gameplay is the addition of a drill, a high-damage close-range 'melee' style ability. If you can get in close and hold down the trigger you can take care of some more annoying enemies.
it's truly a shame that there aren't more games like this. this *nails* the Metroid atmosphere, the immersion, the solitude. metroidvanias have largely followed the Igarashi formula of european weapons in vaguely european or western environments, but axiom verge feels truly alien, and the hacking aspect that unlocks other regions reinforces this; truly a stroke of brillance in terms of game design. i so badly want more games like this. modern metroid has lost what it used to be, and axiom verge is the closest i've seen in a long time to something like that.
If you like metroid fusion or zero mission you will like this one, it feels just like playing one of those in the visual boy advance.

I had this game in my library for a while, and just recently decided to play it. It's amazing. After 22 hours, tho, I only have about half of the achievements, cos I couldn't find all the stuff. The world is huge and it takes a lot of dedication to find everything. I usually love finding all the stuff, but this was a bit too much for me. If you're a completionist, I recommend checking out the guides just as soon as you start playing and not halfway like I did. Now, after having finished the game, I'm just too lazy to go back and find everything. But, yea, very strong metroidvania with great 8-bit style graphics, lots of weapons, abilities and interesting mechanics.
Never finished it but just a smooth af Metroidvania game, if you like the genre, you will like this one.
