🟢 Plug and Play A charming little platformer with GBC aesthetic. Every level have new power up ability, so the is variety in gameplay. Works perfectly at low TDP, stable 60fps at 4W. For some reason fullscreen option is not saved upon exiting the game and it starts in window every time. So you need to go to options and activate fullscreen every time you lunch a game. It's nice because even though you beat the snot out of the cute monsters and animals you get to hang out with them after the levels.

I played the game in Retro difficulty and it took me around 7.5 hours to beat the main game(86%). I wouldnt call it a game to test your reflexes, it's more about memorizing and figuring patterns of bosses and the level layout, some of them are harder to figure out thou. In the retro difficulty, you have checkpoints every two screens(or less) and you only start with two hearts, so you have to dominate those sections inbetween checkpoints. Sometimes it may feel overwhelming at the beginning, but if you try to calm down and analyze the patterns and the enemy layout instead of unsuccessfully bruting force your way out, having only 2 hearts become more managable. Supposedly, the retro difficulty removes platforms and add more enemies and hazards in every screen as well, but they didnt fill the areas with as many enemies as posible for the sake of more difficulty. Everything seemed very organic, and after seeing fragments of a longplay of this game in youtube, the changes in the levels seem to be light, actually some parts looks a little bit too simple and easy in the easier difficulties, so I dont think the retro mode was an afterthought. The game never get repetitive, just like a mario game, it's always introducing new and creative mechanics and enemies, and the game itself isnt really that long.(I think it can be beat in 2.5/3 hours in normal difficulty) and the game doesnt use a system of lifes as actual retro games, so you can die as many times as you want. Also, you can leave and later continue levels from your last checkpoint, so it can be played in short burst. The pixel art is very pretty, I would say peak GameboyColor/nes graphics. Some places really left a lasting impression on my mind. Some small complains that I have would be that sometimes objects blend a little bit too well with the background, but it's not a problem that happens very often, and once you notice them you become fully aware of them. Also, In 3-4 occasions I struggled for a little while to figure out what I was supposed to do, the game wasn't giving me a proper visual feedback in my opinion. It's overall a nice experience with charming personality and visuals, very difficult in retro mode, but also fair and very managable thanks to well balanced checkpoints.
Wonderful little game and on Retro mode it's no joke (maybe don't play it that way first like I did... oops). The sprite work and tiles are great (love the color choices) and thank you for making a pixelated throwback with a consistent rendering resolution! Why do so many modern devs not understand this?! On easy/normal mode this is probably a 2-3 hour game, but I went for 100% on retro and it took 9 hours!
Probably the most underrated game in my library. Is a 100 hour + game? No, but it`s not trying to be. It is a simple, fun Platformer with Power-ups, unique Levels, adorable characters, a great OST, fantastic Pixel art and good bosses. In conclusion, it`s worth your money.
Actual Banger
Charming retro action platformer with a diverse set of environments and good level design. On the higher end of difficulty for just beating, but it has that kind of feel that classic NES and Sega side scrollers have. Easy recommend for anyone who looks for those types of games.
Certified Hood Classic
This game is a cute, challenging, carefully curated experience. There is an abundance of attention to detail and small touches that give a ton of charm. The difficulty is pretty high on the retro mode, but this is a fairly breezy game for all skill levels on the beginner difficulty. I never felt like my deaths were unfair, and you end up picking up the feel for the controls after a little while. Absolutely recommended if you like old-school platformers like Kirby's Dream Land or Super Mario Land. Also, everything has eyes.
Of all the games I've played here on Steam that aim to be "retro", Belle Boomerang is one that hits it out of the park. It nails that perfect NES style aesthetic (or for one level, the GB style) and is very reminiscent of games such as Cocoron or Kirby's Dreamland. The main mechanic of this game involves copying certain powers such as cherry to throw items, static to zip around surfaces, or bubble to hit enemies above you. These vary in fun, but in a game with several different powers at your disposal, you're bound to have a few personal favourites. One thing that felt unique about this game that I personally liked was the "backstage" world. The enemies you encounter throughout the game gradually appear to populate the area. It sort of reminded me of how NES and SNES games would have enemy role calls at the end of games, but in an interactive environment. All in all, I recommend Belle Boomerang to anyone with an appreciation for the classics, or who wants to play a short, cute platformer.
