Assault Suit Leynos 2 Saturn Tribute

Between this and Radiant Silvergun getting English Steam ports recently, it sure is a great time to be a Sega Saturn gamer. Fingers crossed for Princess Crown next, right? Anyways, Leynos 2 is the classic sequel to Target Earth and Cybernator/Assault Suit Valken. Now Valken was a pretty influential game in its own right, being the direct inspiration for games like Metal Warriors and Front Mission: Gun Hazard, the latter being top 10 video games material in my book. I've actually played the original game before, so here are my early impressions on the port. +The game page says a controller is required to play, but keyboard works just fine. You'll probably want a 6-button Genesis controller or a Saturn controller for this game due to the way buttons are laid out, however. Also worth noting the player can set quick save and quick load to buttons (perfect for L3/R3) or even set rapid fire for their bullets. +The port is pretty well optimized all things considered. Playing Saturn games with rewind enabled is quite taxing on the CPU in emulators, so I'm impressed enough with the system requirements, especially since the game is only 200 MB! Quick saves, quick loads, and tips are all nice additions. +Apparently the new game+ has been improved. +The English font is appealing and so far the translation seems to be in line with the Japanese version. +The customization options are very nice. Vsync is thankfully off by default, so the input lag is pretty solid. I like to use the original screen + CRT scanlines enabled + anti-aliasing disabled. +The player has easy mode options that can be toggled independently which include double energy, double defense for the shield, and double defense for the body +/-It's a short game, so your mileage may vary on whether it's worth the $20 but with how high effort the translation work is combined with the lack of fan translation available. I honestly think that alone sells the port. +/-It's pretty authentic right down to the slowdown from the original game (no it's not your PC lol) -If possible, I would like to have an option added to dash via double tapping instead of pressing a button. In Valken/Cybernator, the player could dash by double tapping and it's honestly hurting my muscle memory a lot this isn't an option. This probably goes double if you're a Mega Man X enthusiast like me. -A large gallery with materials for the series could be welcome. Overall, I am very happy with this port. I very much hope to see the Switch Declassified port of Valken/Cybernator come to Steam next as it has an improved translation and extra features relative to the original Cybernator release. This is a must play for fans of games like Aquales, Target Earth, Valken, Thexder, Front Mission: Gun Hazard, Metal Warriors, and so forth.

正直当時の内容をそのままそっくり記憶してるわけじゃないのですが 移植性や動作には全く違和感を感じません。とても快適です。 なんとなくEDソングがカットされるんじゃないかとか無駄に心配してましたが ちゃんとそのまま収録されてましたｗ微妙な歌なんですけどなんか心に残るんですよね。 入ってて良かったです。 実はゲームとしてはボリュームがかなり薄く、初回プレイでも順当に進めば1時間かからずクリア出来ると思います。 それに最初はちょっととっつきずらく、結構難易度も高く感じるので初見の30分はあんまり印象良くないかもです。 でもタフで癖のある主人公チームの軽妙なトークだとか、ロボ物のお約束演出とかがギュっと凝縮されてるので ロボゲーファンなら是非押さえておきたい一作ですね。 周回ゲー的な面もあり、初周はちょっと苦戦するかもですが、次々に上位版装備が手に入りますし 最初はボトムズみたいだった自機が3周もする頃にはフリーダムガンダムみたいになって来ますので 敵陣に単騎で飛び込んで一瞬で壊滅させる様なプレイも可能です。 まあ強過ぎて30秒ぐらいでミッションが終わってしまうのは良し悪しですがｗ 攻略的にはレーザーが手に入ればレーザー撃ってれば終わります。 威力、射程、貫通性能が圧倒的最強なのでお手軽にどんな敵も瞬殺出来ます。 流石に低ランクのレーザーだと多少手こずると思いますがすぐに上位ランク武器と それを振り回せる機体も手に入るので、クリアして実績埋めるだけなら高EN機でレーザー撃ってれば良いです。 それ以外にも定番の実弾武器等数種類ありますし、いかにも渋いズンドコ陸戦型っぽい機体とかもあるので 強過ぎてつまらないと思う人はロマンに合わせて適当に縛って頂いたら良いかと思います。 まあ全ての要素出すまでとしても数時間で遊びつくせるので、ロボゲーに熱い何かを感じる人でないと この値段でもボリューム不足に感じるかも知れませんね。 （ロボに興味ない初見さんが手を出すとは思えませんけども） でもロボ好きなら知らないのは勿体ない名作なのでぜひコレクションしておいて欲しいと思います。

WHAT IN THE NAME OF THE ALL POWERFUL TALLEST OF GOOSES!?!?! Why the hell did no one put me on a inform list that there was an English Localization of Leynos 2 coming out!?!? How in the hell did I ever pick the exact day to attach myself to the internet an browse steam to find it released day 1!?!?! Cosmic alignment, perchance... This really is the real deal Assault Suit Leynos 2 Fully Translated into fully English (and it looks like Korean and Chinese too?). It has some minor screen options, like size, boarders, scanlines, and anti-aliasing. It looks like there are some cheat options to increase the amount of armor, health, and energy of your Leynos too, but it looks to be a binary state with no fine tuning by the user available. I fully booted it up and played for a few minutes on my Steamdeck, with no special configurations, and I did not see any issues the few minutes I was monkeying around. I don't know how any of this happened, but I will return to my previous state, but now with my new copy of Assault Suit Leynos 2, and await the next cosmic alignment...

[i]Assault Suit Leynos 2[/i] might have been a hidden gem on the Saturn, and it's a nice surprise to have it appear out of nowhere on Steam almost 30 years later, translated in English. But it's hard not to be disappointed regardless, because this is barely more than an emulator with a patched ISO of the original included. Especially so since they made a great HD remake of the first [i]Leynos[/i] in 2015. And it's definitely showing it's age. Awkwardly scaled and shimmering 240p graphics that struggle to maintain 30 FPS - I'm sorry, but this won't do. Not at this price. The gameplay itself isn't great either. There are a lot of [i]Assault Suit[/i] clones on Steam that look and play a lot better and cost a lot less.

I used to play this game on my SEGA Saturn(SS). (and the console is still living and kicking today!! Good-old day high-quality era, machines are NOT so fragile compare to nowadays.) This game don't have much Stage, total 6 stage plus 1 last boss stage(cant briefing/nor changing equipment). While I was a child, the most frustrating/confusing Stage is the Arena that one. Enemies some what play nasty to you. Not anymore. ======== After I finished this STEAM verion; The most amazing thing for me is "NEW GAME+", because it is a REAL new game plus... I still remember in SS version, after you finish the game, you DO get the new game plus too. HOWEVER, no matter how hard you play with the NG+ SAVE, you can NEVER unlock the New equipments/Suits anymore. I thought it was intentional setting, but it might be a bug. By the way, I played JP version of the game on my SEGA Saturn, so I don't know about other oversea version. Anyway, this is a good old nostalgia game for me. ======== About "how is this game port? is it a good port?" I will say, yeah, it is port pretty well. It even bring the LAG to this Steam version. (when you fight w/ the Boss, due to the technical issue in SEGA Saturn, it cause a little bit of LAG, you will see it in 1st Stage for sure.) LMAO!! ======== Because of this game is originally made for SEGA Saturn. As you can see the in-game UI, there are 6 grids for 6 weapons & utilites. Those grids are EXACTLY match with the layout of SEGA Saturn controller. So, I had a little bit hard time to adapt with Xbox/Logitech controller...they all only have 4 buttons.

サターン版でクソやりこんだので買いました。 ほぼベタ移植ですがリワインド機能などの便利機能がついてやり直しとかは楽になってます。 他の方も言うとおりレーザーが装備できるようになったらほぼ無双状態になり大味な感がありますがまぁ楽しかったです。 実績コンプは易しい方ですが繰り返しプレイが必須？なので根気よくプレイすると吉

Fairly expensive for what it is... the game takes about 1.5 hours tops on first play, probably less if you abuse save scumming, and the NG+ loop you go into will be very easy if you kick on the biggest laser you can equip. It's great to play it translated though, and any input lag, which I didn't notice at all, isn't really a problem here. Mecha run and guns have weight to them - they're not high speed micro taps to dodge a danmaku wave, but i could easily react to shots with shield or field when needed and boost in the space levels. For first time players, the main tip I can offer is, for the first boss, pause the game and swap the missiles for fist for an easy first boss victory. This is probably the hardest thing you'll fight besides the last couple optional arena bosses. Most enemies are weak to the flamethrower and the last couple levels you should save your energy for lasers, which nuke everything but one giant turret - so much so that taking a high energy output body will kill the final boss in about 15 seconds if you know what you're shooting. Anyway, what the hell is this game? It's a sequel to Leynos/Target Earth, which got a decent update about a decade ago. Lots more weapons and systems, and an auto aim feature that means you can spend more time selecting the right weapon for the job and moving. It's pretty and there are a lot of options for customizing your mech, but the weapon imbalance is pretty nuts. Basically, a lot of cool mechanics but it's wasted on a game that's only six levels and a boss fight long. Cybernator is still my favorite of this company's original cluster of mech games, and Hardcore Mecha is probably the best of the modern ones, but if you want to see one of the coolest games on the Saturn, this is it.

이런 미친. 여러분 "이거 한글" 입니다. 원래 세턴판은 아시는 분들은 아시겠지만, 당시엔 한글화가 되지 않았던 게임이지요. 이렇게 한글화가 되면서 게임 내 전투 무장 정보 확인 변경. 버튼 기능. 움직임 파악이 훨씬 수월해졌습니다! 게임성은 알고계신 그대로며 안타깝게도 추가 스테이지나 무장/기체 이런 것은 없는 것으로 보입니다만,... 그저 추엌을 즐기며 다시 플레이 하는 그 기분을 만끽하고자 함을 원하신다면. 즐겁게 구입 하셔서 오래 전의 그 시절 느낌을 만끽해봅시다. 다행히 부스터 소모가 절반으로 줄어든다거나 실드/보디 수치 증가 옵션 같은 기능이 있어 좀 더 버틸 구석은 생기는 것 같군요. 높은 등급을 받으면서 사용 가능한 기체가 증가하는 미션 클리어에 따라 주어지는 기체들의 성능에 더해 여러가지 무장들을 시험하는 맛은 여전합니다. 다만, 1스테이지에선 선택이 되지 않은 정해진 기체만 사용이 가능하니 이점은 그저 연습이 답입니다. 비슷하지만, 규모가 훨씬 작은 동인 게임들을 어쩌다 접하는 걸로 달래던 그 아쉬움을 한동안 털어내봐야겠군요. P.S 주인공 이름을 이제 알았어...

オリジナルが好きな人は問答無用で買うと思うので、よく知らない人が買って「？」とならないよう、注意喚起の意味でサムズダウンにする。 このゲームは当時も賛否分かれ、ソフトはすぐにセール価格になり、自分みたいに予約してほぼ定価で買った人間なんかは、これは面白いと信じて遊んだ。 確かに面白い要素もあるんだよ、欠点はそれ以上に多いけども。 そもそも、前作レイノスもそこまでゲームとして名作かと言われると一瞬考えてしまう。 大体、誰でも愉しく遊べるヴァルケンとは違うからね。 これの前に大宮ソフト開発でガンハザードが出ていたので、当時は発売前の記事の内容からそれっぽいのを妄想しちゃうじゃない、機体がいくつもあったりとか。 しかし、本作はゲーム的に前作以上にニッチになったレイノスでしかなかった。 スタッフも新人が多く、その後もBECなどのゲームに参加している面子が多い事から、当時のNCSの発注・開発システムからしても、ダメな時のパターンとしか言えない。 レイノスやヴァルケンの評判が良過ぎた為に、初めから期待値が高く、多くのユーザーが求めていたモノとは乖離してしまっていた上、もしレイノスの名前が無ければ売れなかったと思う。 いくらここで良いところを書き連ねても、本作をよく知らない人に勧めるのはやはり間違っている気がする。 勿論、初見で遊んで気に入る人もいるだろう。 だからといって無駄に評価を上げ、むしろ知らない人がやって「こんなクソゲー勧めやがって」となる方がよくないと思う。 なので、ここはサムズダウンでレビューする。

素晴らしいビデオゲームです。 美しいスプライトと非常に反応の良いコントロール、そして自分のアサルトスーツをカスタマイズできる多彩なオプションがある、見事なメカアクションゲームです！
