A direct continuition of AC2 and Ezio's story. I highly recommend playing 2 first as you'll be lost otherwise. Story is very well rounded. Rome is lovely to ride around on horseback but as a lot of it is empty field or fields with a few ruins, it doesn't have as much parkour potential that AC2 cities did. Has a lot of well designed side content. This is the game that began the mindless killstreak combat system that lasted with the series till rogue. The animations are great but the combat is quite mindless.

This might be the weaker point from the Ezio trilogy. While the game clearly has dozens hours more of context, it could be considered the start of those famously known Ubisoft games where the map is filled with hundreds of icons that the players will have to clear through the story or after it. Main story is shorter than the one seen in Assassins Creed 2, but this game is completely necessary to understand the whole plot. Gameplay is considerably smoother when it comes to parkour, combat and assassination possibilities, as well as the brotherhood mechanic where you can send and train your own apprentices. The game is overall acceptable, story is interesting and gameplay not as cranky as the first game of the saga. Recommended if you want both a lot of content to cleave in your free time or if you are just passing by to understand the Story of Ezio and Desmond.
Best game in the franchise. One of the most unique and best multiplayers of all time, Ubisoft has squandered their own franchise for who knows why. They have the most unique multiplayer game, one of which would be extremely easy to sell microtransactions of skins and gear and everything, it could be a cash cow, and they can't figure it out. I'm being civil in my wording. I believe this game can still be played multiplayer on PC, but how I think includes setting up sessions with others through discord or something. In either case, the story mode is fantastic. I highly recommend this game, on whatever platform you play it. Just don't give Ubisoft any more money by buying a digital version through XBOX of PS. That's my two cents.
