Ashley Clark: The Secrets of the Ancient Temple, a puzzle-heavy game originally released on 2015. Our detective Ashley Clark was sent to investigate a zoo where a guard was killed by an animal, she then finds out it wasn't actually the first time things like this happened in this abandon zoo, a veterinarian was also killed before. Going through the evidence, she found something unexpected which got her -again- into troubles. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1501223216 The story is average, there is nothing much in it, but the puzzles are fun, they vary between very easy and extremely difficult which I enjoyed a lot, some of them can be frustrating, especially the repeat the sequence ones, they are not easy. The hidden objects scenes were decent, I like the artwork which is above average. You'll visit each scene twice, one of them will be words based and the other spot the silhouette. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1501247451 Collectibles are included in this game, you'll have to collect a 'battery' which will give you a hint turn. The journal is very useful, it keeps the track of the story as well as the clues you find around the area. There is also a fast traveling map as you'll have to go back and forth between the areas to collect items whenever she thinks she needs them. Like the previous game, Ashley doesn't pick up all items while it is laying around unless she encounters a puzzle that needed them. The voice overs are not bad, but since the game focuses on the puzzles and hidden objects scenes, there is not much of a story to tell between those, only a couple of cutscenes and encounters. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1502233191 Pros: +Avarage artwork. +OK music. +Useful journal. +Fast traveling map. +Variety of puzzles. +Collectibles (Batteries you collect to get hints turns) +Well made but few hidden objects scenes. +Steam achievements. Cons: -Some of the puzzles are nearly impossible to solve. -There are some pixel hunting to spot items in the areas. If you are into puzzles and want to solve one after another, this game is for you! Ashley Clark 2: The Secrets of the Ancient Temple (IHOG) Game provided for Curator review Let me say up front that my review is going to be colored by my disappointment. The first game, Secret of the Ruby, was much better in every way possible. If you're going to play this second game, I recommend putting your expectations behind you - I imagine that you'll enjoy it more that way. That being said, there are quite a few things that parallel #1, so I'll be reviewing that info here. Options include four difficulties, ranging from Easy to Nightmare; 10 Languages; Chapter saves (reload a chapter at any time, although you will lose your progress); and separate sliders for Sound Effects and Music. I had a difficult time finding a balance on the sounds - It seemed like one or the other would jump up and drown out the voices much of the time. The HO scenes go back and forth between word list and silhouette, and are lightly interactive. There is a rapid-misclick penalty, and you can tell when you're getting close to the penalty by looking at the skull at the top of the to-find list. When it fills up with color completely, you'll temporarily be unable to click on anything. There is a lot of to-ing and fro-ing in the game, but we do have an insta-travel, interactive MAP to help us out. The game seemed really unbalanced, with the beginning being VERY HO-heavy, while later on it was peppered with more adventure-esque play and puzzles. Speaking of which... The puzzles. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Many of the puzzles are laughable and insultingly easy, although there are a few that actually took some time to solve. There was one puzzle in particular that was incredibly frustrating, as there is - as far as I can tell - literally no way to solve it. https://steamcommunity.com/id/genkicoll/screenshot/963096022810455096 It was because of this puzzle, however, that I discovered that every achievement in the game - all 40 of them - are obtained just by playing through the game. Skipping a puzzle is still completing it, as far as the game is concerned. Hints are refillable, but the collectible batteries you can find - one at each location - serve as an insta-hint (no need to wait for the hint to charge.) These are stackable, so if you don't use hints, you'll have quite a few by the time you finish the game. Directional hints will not discharge your hint meter. The story is meh, the voiceovers about what you'd expect from a game of this type, the music just fine, and most of the sound effects were dreadful. My biggest gripes are twofold. First, was my logic warring with what the game wanted me to do. Why would I need to find a knife to cut down a curtain when I had some serviceable scissors right there in my inventory? All it would have taken is something like, "It's too thick, the scissors won't work," when I tried to used them. Second is the super-abrupt ending. Although I found myself irritated throughout most of the game, I would still recommend this for HOG-lovers. It's not a bad game, it's just that it rubbed me the wrong way. Had I not come in with high expectations, I think that I would have enjoyed it more. I recommend playing this installment BEFORE Secret of the Ruby - that way you won't suffer from the same disappointment.
Ashley Clark: The Secrets of the Ancient Temple
Adventures of 2015. Detective Ashley Clark investigates a case in a country town. An accident occurs in a closed zoo. Zoo employee was killed by animal. Nothing unusual at first glance, but the heroine realizes that it was not an accident. Something very strange is happening at the zoo. (Developer) You earn what I call a criminal case. One with a stupid story. How do I find what I'm looking for? Pretty hard. In addition, some objects can only be picked up when the developer sees fit. Does it go anywhere? Yes, but also difficult. There are also hidden object inserts. Again, a higher level of difficulty, but quite good. There are also mini-games. If you want to solve them yourself you have to be really experienced. But not as difficult as in the previous game. You can skip them. For everything else there is the hint function. I don't think it's playable without it. Unfortunately, fast travel is no longer available. So you have to go back and forth, back and forth through the cards very often. The focus is on searching, for pretty much anything, of course. Not suitable for beginners due to the high degree of difficulty, but professionals will enjoy it here. This game is a lot worse than its not so good predecessor. One would think that the developers learn from their, let's call it mistakes, but no, it has gotten worse. Therefore no recommendation, unless you are a professional.
Ashley Clark: The Secrets of the Ancient Temple
Ziemlich schwer.
Cool casual game, will go to pass away couple of evenings and to relax.
Abstract
A short and uncomplicated mystical detective with the inevitable search for objects… Work fine on Ubuntu 16.04 with Intel® HD Graphics 4400.
GNU/Linux
Intel® HD Graphics 4400.
Short version: 45%
Ashley Clark 2 is a harmless and relatively cheap, but also repetitive and short hidden object game.
Long version:
The Secrets of the Ancient Temple starts with an interesting murder mystery in a half-abandoned zoo, but that is just the bait. In reality, it takes place in a dull underground temple that houses a similarly uninteresting story. I mean, stopping an unnamed magician from gaining power is the most basic HOG plot in existence. If it also had a kidnapped daughter, we would have a full cliché bingo. One could hope that the gameplay could save the thing plot, but as a game, Ashley Clark 2 is almost remarkably unremarkable. It strives to meet the minimum expectations to create a functional and acceptable HOG, and nothing more. I cannot complain much about the amount and design of the hidden object scenes. I can also state that the puzzles are functioning. However, I cannot say any more praises or criticism towards the gameplay, because there isn't anything to work with. Maybe I could recommend it if you are looking for an inexpensive and inoffensive HOG, but there are other games out there for that.
This game is all about the puzzles, and be prepared for number puzzles. The art and music are good; it's very atmospheric. The voice acting is good, too, which is nice. The hidden object scenes are very good, and since the achievements aren't time/perfection-based, you can focus on figuring them out for yourself, or using a hint if you're really frustrated. The cons are definitely the character and plot, which are minimal. There's no context for anything, and the protagonist almost never shares her thoughts. It's a little strange - I felt dissociated from the game rather than immersed (and I realize this is an HOG, not Skyrim, or some other 3D RPG). It's a solid HO/Puzzle game, it just wasn't especially engaging for me. I feel like a better introduction, a little more character interaction (even internal dialogue), and some kind of epilogue would have made a big difference. ~ Imp
Well, I thought the first game was meh, and this one drops even below that one. Basically the same review as I gave to the other Ashley Clark game, only I enjoyed this one even less. The other game: https://steamcommunity.com/id/IFIYGD/recommended/882640/ This one has a even shallower and more rushed story, that starts as one thing, and veers off into a completely bizarre spider-cult occultist thing. Really feels rushed and out of focus. Good variety of puzzles, though the hidden object scenes still have the same issues as the last game, and the puzzles are even simpler, with many being a reskin of commonly used puzzles. They were not enjoyable- once again too easy or too drawn out and time consuming for their own good. The first game I said "maybe on a really deep discount", but this one- unless you are hopelessly addicted to hidden object games and enjoy wasting your time on bad ones- avoid it. It just wasn't a good game. The only thing it has going for it is achievements, which are pretty much impossible to not get all of. But like the first game, this game is not likely to ever leave "Profile Features Limited" status, so they do not add to you cheevo count on your profile or your perfect game count.
