its fun
This is a good quality little indie title. I simple 2D boss rush that tries to be in the vain of dark souls with its dodging and blocking mechanics. While also having a little bit of that rougelike charm with random item pickups and boss layouts. It's short, it's simple, It doesn't try to be anything more than an indie game keeping to its small developing team budget. Nevertheless, it works for what it is, and has a few challenges and surprises for those into these type of games.
Great game, especially given the price. I got it on sale which was even better, but the regular $7 price point right now is a great deal. The game essentially follows hollow-knight-like combat (minus jumping) and is primarily uses a boss-rush mechanic, though there are other spots as well (shops, minor quests, and random encounters, for example). The combat is pretty fluent and reliable, allowing you to really master it - I have seen some people say they had issues, but I had none (and many of those comments were early access as well). There are 3 starting characters and 1 unlockable character (the latter will be unlocked when you beat a particular boss). There are like 7 or 8 bosses on a run, and then a final boss. The final boss isn't exactly "final" though, as there are actually 4 final bosses that must be beaten over multiple runs. There is also a skill tree that allows you to moderately upgrade your character between runs. As a general note: you should always talk to the NPCs in the starting area - one boss is unlocked through dialogue after beating the first boss, and one NPC allows you to upgrade with the skill tree (you could easily miss this feature at first, as I did). Additionally, each character has their own ending. To progress to their ending, you must beat the "final final boss" which is unlocked by first beating the other three final bosses. There are also multiple difficulties (some of which must be unlocked by beating the game on the previous difficulty), which combine strengthening enemies and providing new/tougher boss patterns. The game took me just over 7 hours to achievement hunt. To achievement hunt the game, you must beat the game (the "final final boss") with all four characters and view their endings. So it requires 15+ playthroughs minimum - but the game is varied enough and enjoyable, so I didn't find repeated playthroughs to be tedious. In fact, it has a lot of replayability for a short game. You do NOT need to beat the hardest difficulty with each character to achievement hunt; you will only need to do so with one character (I found Nagne to be the best for the harder difficulties). Overall - you get about a 7.5 hour game for full achievement hunting it, and it has a ton of replayability so you could definitely go more (such as beating the max difficulty with each character). It was a very fun game, and particularly fun for an indie game. I think the price point is perfect where it is, and the game is definitely worth getting. I would also put the game in the "perfect game to spend the weekend on" category if you're that kind of person too.
