Fantastic start to a great 4X with some amazing potential. Already very well polished and complete, especially compared to other games in the genre. Some key points: - Looks amazing - Very satisfying to grow your cities - Simultaneous turns in a historical 4X is fantastic. It's about time! - Finally a game that dares do some different, whilst still feeling somewhat familiar. - No hexes mades both the visuals and gameplay (city growth and unit movement) flow so much better. Amazing scope to flesh out the core systems into something truly special. Looking forward to what is added in the coming months.
I really did not want to "Not Recommend" a review but this poorly optimization is so bad every time I load the game up it freezes my PC where I have to hard reboot the PC. Please focus on optimizing your game first before you add more content. The good thing is when I do get in it's amazing. I love how it feels like Sid Meier's Civilization meets Victoria. I wanted to wait until I finish the game for my full thoughts but this terrible optimization needs to be looked at.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 31: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

A really good game that shows a lot of promise. The devs continue to actively update the game based on player feedback. Because it is a 4X game, people tend to compare it to CIV, but I think that only covers a part of what this game has to offer. If CIV and ANNO had a baby, this is what you would get. It is definitely more chunky than CIV and requires more management of resources and production (like ANNO type games). I highly suggest giving it a try, especially when it is on sale.
After testing the 2.0 version of the game (preview build), I can confirm that the game is really nice and that it's the best alternative to Civilization on the market currently. If you are not happy with civilization 7, Give Ara a try, it is worth now. Big plus: the economic model of the game is great, you don't have to buy 47 DLCs to enjoy the experience as most of additional leaders are given for free.
This is another overlooked masterpiece that suffered a difficult start. In fact, it sports one of the most amazing features of its genre: The departure of tiles! This feels so much more realistic, immersive, and to be honest also more beautiful. This also has tons of replayability potential. The strategies, options, and gameplay are numerous and there is always something new to discover. Unfortunately, on start comfort functions were missing, making resource management a big micromanagement chore. This is much better now. I can only recommend to give it a try. I hope the dev's don't give up the great path they were walking and that we'll see more of "non-tile" games in the future.
Nach ca. 25h Spielzeit, ist das Fazit einfach, Es ist das bessere Civ 7.
I would definitely recommend this game for people who are fans of history and 4X games, but are more economically rather than militarily inclined. More focus is on maintaining production chains, while battle mechanics are simplified to simply two armies move into the same space and they fight. And as far as I'm concerned, this is a good thing. The mechanisms are complex and take a while to figure out, and some polish is definitely needed. But once you figure out it's definitely a breath of fresh air for the genre.
For me right now it's: Civ 6 > Ara > Millennia > Civ 7
I used to love 4x Civ-games but got burnt out on them. Ara re-ignited the 'one more turn' play for me. The resource management takes some getting used to and is more fiddly than it should be, yet it is also a very satisfying and relaxing game loop (grabbing new resources, developing improvements to extract, 'upgrading' improvements with products', using the output for further production or consumption, growing and grabbing more resources and/or new tech). Military and diplomacy are serviceable and the AI could be better, but why bother when you can build your beautiful economy!
This 4X game has a lot of micromanagement and production chain management. The AI has been made better and the game is a challenging and rewarding experience. It IS a little brain melting if you play too long, so take care of yourself.
