Aqua Kitty - моя любимая shoot 'em up аркада! Aqua Kitty one love! <3
Defender-like. Remaster of on one my favorite little shmups. The visuals in the remaster are not an improvement, but the new bosses and game mode are appreciated. Grade: A-

nice visuals and music, sadly gameplay is lacking. you spend too much time not shooting while waiting for your weapon to start recharging (and then recharge very slowly, and stop recharging if you shoot before it's finished...), resulting in a pretty frustrating experience.
It's Defender but with kittens. If that sentence alone doesn't make this an instabuy, are you sure you're human? Oh and it works great on Deck/SteamOS!
Great update to the original game "Aqua Kitty Milk Mine Defender". The game is very reminiscent of the classic arcade game by Williams named "Defender". The difference is that in the game Defender, you fly around in a spaceship stopping and destroying aliens from grabbing humans off the planet. In Aqua Kitty UDX, you're stopping any number of adversaries from grabbing your milk miner kitties from the bottom of the ocean. This game has captured that classic arcade feel that many games try for but few achieve in my opinion. The game is addictive. These devs have done a great job of combining crisp clean pixel art with that classic arcade style gameplay. The game is a 2D continual side scroller that is in an underwater environment. You play as a kitty in a submarine, protecting your milk miners on the bottom of the ocean. There are various power ups and enemies to deal with while you're protecting your miners from being taken. You fight your enemies in waves that get progressively harder with progressively different enemies to fight. This update has Classic, Arcade, Infinite and Dreadnought modes. Each mode brings its own twist on the story and is a great way to introduce the game in 4 different ways. Nice upbeat music and sounds makes this as enjoyable to hear as the game is to play. I already had the game Aqua Kitty Milk Mine Defender and loved it. Anyone who previously owned that game received the updated "Aqua Kitty UDX" for free. As I loved the original game from the start, I felt a need to give the updated UDX some love as well. I had no problems playing the game with my Logitech gamepad. Nice enjoyable game for the casual player or bullet hell enthusiast alike.
This game is freaking amazing!!!. It was so fun to play the classic game in dual kitty mode with my youngest daughter. Unfortunately, she moved off with her mom. Anyway, I somehow got UDX for free - I guess from when I bought the classic PC version. Even though the classic version was GREAT and had the super amazing Sound Track by Electric Cafe https://www.electriccafe.xyz/store/ , I still wanted the UDX version. It was a while before the authors make UDX available on PC and now I got it for FREE!!! I don't know if someone gifted it to me anonymously or the TIKIPOD team gave it to me but this game is the ultimate retro-modern experience. If you don't Aqua Kitty, you've gotta buy this game. Get this UDX version.
https://youtu.be/-KL7mqrnCDI Early difficulty cure makes getting started a bit rough but once it starts to come together the 'Defender' style play can be plenty fun.
Since this is pretty much the same as the normal version, I am also gonna not recommend it. The controls suck and the movement is convoluted and stilted, which is a problem in a game that's effectively a bullet hell. Your pea shooter is super weak and not even remotely good enough, not to deal with the massive bullet sponge enemies that come in later in the game. Once you reach lvl 10, the difficulty ramps up to an absurd degree and continues getting worse, all while you barely get any changes to your ship. The difficulty would be fine if your ship also scaled accordingly, it doesn't and that creates allot of frustration (it's like luck matters more than skill later on in the game). The enemies are too many, they can fire at any angle and their bullets stay way too long. Combined with the stilted movement, it's really hard to not get hit. The movement also messes with the pea shooter, for some reason you half your range when you rush forward, which you have to constantly do to save kitties from being abducted from aliens. Speaking of that, the radar is almost useless and due to all the sh!1 going on, you will either take hits cause you looked at the radar or miss kitties being abducted cause you are busy getting swarmed by 50 trillion enemies. Most of the power-ups are either garbage or at best, situational. Some of the shooter one's are really nice, like the one's that add up and down bullets or angled one's. At least those can save kitties when the aliens left the water but not the screen. Still sucks that they are activated when you picke them up, even worse is that you can ram them and take damage. How to fix the game FIx the awful movement, let me drive the sub in all 8 directions. I don't mind if different drections go in different speeds (vertical movement makes sense to be slower than horizontal movement). Just don't lock my sub to going forward when it picks up speed. Reduce the amount of enemies, either set a limiter or slow down the spawn rate, preferably both with how tanky they are. another way to fix it is just give me a more powerful gun and/or let me buy permanent upgrades for it. Make the power-ups be activated by choice, not when you pick them up. The bomb would be so much more useful if I could choose when to activate it. Make use of the score you get from every stage, let the player use the money to buy permanent upgrades. I know arcade mode allows for semi-permanent upgrades, that's not the same thing (just like in gradius, you lose all the upgrades if you lose a ship). Until the game is fixed, I can't suggest buying it outside of really good steam discounts or humble bundle.
It's a good game but I SUCK at it. ( ._.)
AQUA KITTY UDX is a interesting Defender-style game that isn't a bullet-hell game (thought it can end up like that when you not kill enough enemies!). If what you want is to lean back and play a little game where you can beat a level in under 10 minutes, then decide to play more or stop then this is the right game! It also has three game modes, so you get plenty of game for it. I always say not every game needs to be a Metroidvania, a ActionRPG, a Bullet-hell or even a Soulslike. You can't only have fun with games that are over 50 hours long. Quite often a small game like AQUA KITTY UDX just hits the spot with its interesting gameplay, nice music and not overall is not to hard a game.
