Developers do not understand shumps. There are a lot of different weapons and upgrades, but 80% of them are total ♥♥♥♥ not worth picking. There are non-ship brekable obstacles, but they are undistinguishable from some objects in background. Just not really fun.
This is a "bullet hell" roguelike shoot 'em up. The first two things I don't particularly like. However, that game might have made me a believer. The "bullet hell" aspect is made manageable because the bullets are relatively slow, are often in interesting patterns and basically never cover the whole screen. The "roguelike" aspect is made more manageable because the runs are relatively short, with an upgrade and health regained after every boss, and randomized enemies (including bosses) helping replayability. The normal difficulty level is probably too tough for the majority of people, including me, but in that "Space Tour" mode (read easier mode) that wasn't there initially, I feel as if the challenge is fair and as if I could possibly beat this (although I haven't yet). The game is fluid, controls very well and is just plain fun. I think the electrifying yet melodious rock soundtrack has a lot to do with it. One of the best I've heard. There's a cool variety of weapons and upgrades, although it is not as vast as I initially thought. My only real criticism, and a small one at that, would be that enemy ships often look too similar with their shapes and colors. Then again, they look part of the same fleet and it makes them easier to distinguish from the rest. Just remember to play in "Space Tour" mode and you'll likely have a great time.
Cloud saves don't work. Game is only slightly fun, with no progression between runs at all.
Excellent shmup roguelike. Loops after you beat the game, with crazier bullet hell and allows you to continue to grow even stronger. Upgrades between stages could be more varied and interesting. Weapon variety is great though. Has co-op. The music is superb, a nice metal/techno fusion that lends to the intensity of the experience. I got very hooked on this and 100%'d the achievements, which was no easy feat! ===================== My SHMUP Tier List ===================== ~Simply personal taste. ~Probably played another 100+ Shmups, but I only started this list recently and am sticking mostly to modern releases ~Not including any 'flying anime girl shmups' as they don't appeal to me. 10 years after it originally release and it's still my favorite shmup! Every now and then I boot it up for a couple runs, especially now that we have steam decks. Perfect blend of procedural generation to keep you on your toes but remaining predicable enough that you can learn all the waves and how to beat them flawlessly. All the early bosses have multiple variants with their own unique patterns so it never feels too repetitive to die and start a new run over and over. And every time you meet a boss there's a funny line/pop culture reference to introduce them. Lots of weapons and upgrades, granted not all of them are great but all of them are fun for sure! A handful of player ships that each cater to a ceratin playstyle and have unique abilities. Not enough? There's a handful of secret bosses that spice up your run with their own set of very powerful upgrades and usually increase the difficulty for every one of them you beat. Beat the final boss? WRONG! There's another final final boss. Beat that one? Now you get to do it all over again but the enemies increase their volume of fire for every loop you go through. Striking visuals that manage to still clearly convey to you what's going on on the screen (though it can get a bit hectic in the later stages especially if you're beyond the first loop) And last but certainly not least, the banger of an OST, courtesy of Zander Noriega, that will make you feel like an absolute badass as you murder thousands of pirates across all of time and space. If you like shmups, Steredenn is a must have and earns its place among the best of its kind.
My favorite Shmup, hands down, and I know I'll spend hundreds of hours on it. I love it so much that I also own it on Switch and iOS to be sure I can play it anytime, and I have the PS5 physical edition (others became very expensive) even if I don't own a PS5 ^^ Steredenn has a unique, epic vibe like no other game, reinforced by its fantastic OST and unusual weapons. And the icing on the cake - bosses introduction catchphrases are funny as hell, and I still discover some new ones after 40 hours on 3 platforms! Try seed 7486, make sure to get the boomerang, and after a few stages of warm-up, enjoy the unique, insane flow of this game condensed in a demonic run, as long as you can survive. I love this game so much!
Fun! Who doesn't like powerups?
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tricked me into buying this on nintendo switch when the binary stars addon first dropped by saying they wouldn't add it to pc
