Antiprism brings classic shoot 'em up mechanics to VR and combines them with innovative single-player twin-ship gameplay. Control two ships at once as the pilots Jexen and Malik shoot hordes of enemies, dodge enemy fire, find and upgrade items, and beat hard bosses on their journey through The Gone.

Great game with really fluid aiming and flying - one of the better implementations of VR in action gaming. Well polished gameplay and I love the art and music. Different parts of your ships are upgradeable, the campaign has many enemies and bosses, side-quests which reward upgrades beside the main quest line. The endless "survivor" game mode adds more replay value and more challenges. Definitely going to be playing this one longer, for me this is one of these games that instantly hooks you - recommended!
Ok here's my full review. The game starts hard both in campaign and endless because of the slow weapon they give you first. Maybe they could have started the game with the railgun or upgrade the base weapon to 2 beams instead of just 1, making it more fair and more different than the railgun when not upgraded. Making the upgrades 2-3-5 beams instead of 1-3-5 beams. The game ended abruptly in the short 6th chapter with a somewhat underwhelming boss battle. I felt the campaign was a bit short with missing bosses battles. (In endless there's no shortage of bosses so that's great but I would have like one or two more different ones). There's no big story and you don't get attached to the characters of the game, it's all action but I didn't really mind that. I like the variety of enemies but the critters feels like they could to be adjusted, a lot of times I couldn't finish them fast enough and I'm not sure how to kill them if you don't have seeking missiles since once they get to you they circle close around you so I extend my arms and make big circles for a minute while they chase me until the missiles take care of them, weird mechanic. I completely changed this section after thoroughly testing all weapons at full upgrade. It seems I was mistaken, I thought the shotgun had limited bullets after trying it and not being able to fire it after a few shots so I naively assumed it had limited bullet count, it was probably just an early bug that I haven't encountered again. All weapons works really great in any combination so that's a great plus, it's rare that I like all weapons in a game..! About replay value, if you like the game I think it has good replayability with survivor mode. You will get more challenged as it increases and I've actually started getting killed, lost both ships for the first time on survivor 15. You just can't put it down..! The flow of the game is great, when faced with more action later in game, or in survivor at least, you'll be happy to have those little breaks to take a few seconds because if you're like me you're going to use your legs and whole body to dodge bullets and all. Made me break a sweat the other day, granted I'm not in extra shape..! So I like the graphics, I like the sound and music, I like the environments. Ships are have cool details like jets and headlights which is pretty cool. Felt like 1:1 movement would have been better but you get used to it as you get used to have ships not directly in your hands. Felt they could have worked more on the weapons and energy system that is just somewhat clear and important. You won't have to make critical choices about it once fully upgraded, but may upgrade it differently depending on the money you have at the moment. I like the game since I like that style of game, I'm not aware of any other games yet in that style except for the free demo in The Lab. So for me right now it's a solid buy as I am enjoying the game much and I think it's well made. I haven't experienced any bugs since the update even with lots of enemies on screen. I intend to play more it's really fun..!
Experienced on the Meta Quest 2
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/R15_hgdG-Y4 This is NOT a positive review, consider this a neutral or meh recommendation. This really is a rather mediocre, forgettable shoot 'em up. I would rather play Xortex, which is free (from Valve's The Lab mini-game). This game isn't terrible, but I just didn't have fun playing it. So what did it get right? I liked the visual variety, the different scenes & the different types of encounters were good. For example, in one level you're avoiding & exploding asteroids before you get crushed or you avoid electron light fields that move all around. I also liked all the different weapons and how they all did behave differently and how the upgrades felt substantial. There's also a nice variety of enemies & boss fights. The particle effects were also good. However, I think this game got just about everything else wrong. The biggest thing is how holding the twin ships feels wrong & unresponsive. The twin ships are actually positioned away from your motion controllers, so it doesn't feel like you're holding them. They also move like you're moving your hands underwater. They're also encased in this bubble shield that takes away from the visuals. There's very little depth to the gameplay. You press trigger. You avoid the bullet hell. That's it. There's no power ups or secondary attack or even a temporary invulnerability (your shields are automatically on). The only strategy happens on what weapons you choose to bring and what you decide to upgrade. Unfortunately, you have to grind prior levels to get enough money to do that. Combat also just feels static. You never get a sense of flight. Enemies just come towards you. The sounds are also subpar & the musical soundtrack is forgettable. There is no story or tutorial. You just go from level to level in the single player campaign, with lots of loading screens. There is also a survival mode which is slightly better. Game is running on the Unity Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting a steady 90 fps, but I did experience a stutter or two during my almost 3 hours of playtime. I did not experience any other serious issues or bugs. You do need at least standing room to move your arms to avoid the bullet hell-scape. Rate 5.5/10.
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program. My first impressions of Antiprism was that it really resembled the Xortex minigame from The Lab. Several minutes in, though, I could really tell that this was much more. There are different chapters with different locations, enemies and bosses. There are multiple weapons, shields and other ship systems to upgrade and experiment with. Initially I was having some trouble getting used to the aiming, but a few missions in I started to get the hang of it. There is a significant change in the moods when moving between chapters - the enemies change their movement and attack patterns and provide different challenges to overcome. The graphics are OK and I haven't had any crashes or framerate issues so far. The story is kind of lacking, but after all the game is a bullet hell, so I didn't expect much on that front. I've tried the survivor mode for a bit, but got crushed pretty quickly - the difficulty is higher than in Campaign mode. I guess I'm going to try it again later after I've built up some more playtime. Generally I like the game and would recommend it to anyone that likes shooting stuff and dodging bullets.
I started playing this in beta a few weeks ago and fell in love with it right away. It’s ambitious for a small dev team and you can tell they put everything they could into it. For a space themed shooter they have cracked it. The environments are great especially the floating asteroids and planet galaxy backdrops you get the sense your really in the void. As to the shooting, the waves can sometimes be a little short but I think the aim is to be a casual bullet hell shooter and I’ve found myself just playing Antiprism for the no thinking just shoot aspect. Time and time again instead of bigger games. I want to see more intense enemy waves and bosses so I will keep playing but all in all they have done a great job with this. Just little tweaks needed here and there but totally enjoyable experience. I can’t wait for this to come to quest2 as this game deserves to get noticed
How is this can not called Early Access? The game could be good but it's not finished. Not worth the money. • Loading time of the first level was atrocious. • Enemies don't have any animation or fluid movement, they move very unorganically Always face towards you, change movement direction immediately, are boring. • The projectiles are boringly slow, making it quite hard (and boring) to hit something. • The fact that the ship movement is not 1:1 with your controllers but is scaled down is annoying, because you think you can evade something but it turns out to be out of your range. Requesting refund.
Pretty fun space shooty VR! My right and left cerebral hemispheres were confused at first but I got the hang of it!
Really interesting and fun game, would recommend you give it a try! I'm a big fan of the art style and general aesthetic and for me personally it's different and refreshing VR experience! Hope to see more of this moving forward!
Game is pretty good, if you like calssic shoot em ups you'll probably like this one too
A pretty good shoot em up game in VR. The lack of motion during the shootouts prevents any dizziness that is usually found in many VR games and you can play it both standing and sitting! I really like the simplicity of the gameplay - destroy stuff, earn credits and upgrade my ships to take on the harder enemies that appear later in the game. There was a bump in the challenge after I completed the first chapter - the enemies in the next ones act so differently that I had to keep adjusting my strategy to beat them. Overall I'm really enjoying it so far and I can't wait to face the next boss.
