Cute but daunting. Another Crab’s Treasure is a game designed in a way for you to be sucked into the interesting visuals assume it’s going to be a walk in the park only to be harshly reminded the world is a terrifying place for a small crab. That difficultly curve is a bit steep, the start of the game is particularity harsh forcing the player to adapt, or make use to the accessibility options and just spawn in a gun. This sink of swim approach will probably alienate a lot of players that wanted a cutesy game like this to be a tad more forgiving than your standard Souls-Like. That said it does have a sweep of options to tailor the challenge to you with the aforementioned accessibility options; from overpowered one shot kills, to just not losing your currency when you die, or a better dodge roll. However after getting past the first three bosses the game opens up giving the player more in-game options and chances to grow stronger while always giving them another twist or challenge to keep things fresh right until the end. Character and boss designs stay initiative and fun throughout the game and the world building of an underwater society fuelled by human trash is delightfully morbid. While sometimes frustrating this harsh little game is well worth the plunge.
it's fun
Another Crab's Treasure ended up being one of the biggest surprises ive played in ages. At first i thought it was just gonna be a silly crab game with a few jokes but it actually has way more going for it than i expected. The combat is proper satisfying once it clicks. Its definitely inspired by souls games but it never feels like its just copying them. Swapping shells to get different abilities keeps things fresh and makes you think about how you wanna tackle each fight. Some bosses absolutely kicked my arse for ages but beating them felt amazing and i never really felt like the game was being unfair. The world is honestly brilliant. Exploring every little corner always felt worth it because there was usually something hidden away. The underwater setting is gorgeous and the way it mixes colourful environments with piles of rubbish is really clever. It somehow manages to be funny while also making you think about pollution without shoving it in your face. The music fits everything perfectly and the art style has loads of charm. Every area has its own look and personality and i never got bored of seeing what was coming next. Kril is also really likeable and i ended up caring way more about his journey than i expected. Its not perfect though. The camera can have a bit of a meltdown during some boss fights and there were a couple of annoying difficulty spikes that had me needing a break. But none of that was enough to ruin the experience. If you like soulslikes but want something a bit more lighthearted without losing the challenge then id definitely recommend Another Crab's Treasure. Funny, surprisingly emotional, really fun to play and easily one of my favourite games ive played this year.
差
SZ
I love this game. Great worldbuilding, which makes you ponder about our blue planet. Gameplay is punishing but rewarding, just like a real souls-like. And lots of cute references to from software games. Very Fun!
