It's a decent Battlefront inspired FPS. This very much feels like the game we would have gotten if the cancelled Battlefront 3 had actually happened, minus the lightsabers but still, it's a fun game. Not a lot of games like this get made anymore and I wish that wasn't the case. Main con is how janky the game can be. I see some people say it just makes it feel more old school which in their mind is a good thing and I guess I understand that POV but the gunplay is just a little too floaty. I wish it was a littttleee bit more polished but it ain't bad by any means. Get's the job done. The space battles in this game are glorious and for them alone I would recommend this game but ground battles are also quite fun. Boarding enemy capital ships and running amok will never get old I feel like. You can also play full bot games which is great, the bots are also not that bad. They still act dumb sometimes and their pathing can get buggy at times too and up close they like to zig zag around you like a damn mosquito. But otherwise, it's great to have the ability to play full bot games. It's a decent game. Not perfect but if you like the old school Battlefront games, you will like this.

There's a good game in this shell, it has all of the hallmarks of a good combined arms multiplayer shooter, but unfortunately doesn't have the budget to bring it together. The game feels worst to play than the trailer shows. It's light and floaty in the wrong ways, combat lacks impact, there is not much feedback when you kill an enemy, nor when you take damage. All things that could eventually be refined with audio tuning, and visual indicators. Asides from that graphics are fine, it's charmingly old school and visibility is very good. Gameplay modes are ho hum, but it's combined forces, sometimes in space which is cool. I didn't give this game much time because the general gameplay gripes, they just weren't something I was willing to look pass. I had to keep it in refund window.
Had bad expectations but was not prepared for this . The trailer looks way better than how it actually looks and plays
still clunky with boarding only giving invaders one area to board is cheap
Kudos for the ambition. Play it now before the community gets ADHD. A lot of old school fun to be had. Needs some streamers to raid the game to pump it up. Bots as well, so it will never truly die.
Bit of a learning curve, but holy crap is this game awesome. I haven't played an arcade shooter that kept me hooked like this since Battlefront 2 on the Xbox. This game gives those vibes, but where it combines that game with elements of battlefield or Planetside. Feels like a smaller scale singleplayer or multiplayer version of Planetside and its a ton of fun. I've mainly been playing with bots, since multiplayer matches are usually limited to 32 players or are private lobbies. BUT, you can host your own singleplayer (or open to the public) lobbies and set it to 64 players. The bots on their hardest difficulty setting are actually very competent and fun to play with. It really feels like an online match, where you almost forget they're all bots. It makes sense they are so good, considering the bots in Unreal Tournament and Tribes were awesome back in the day, and this is running on Unreal Engine 3 if you can believe it. The fact that it's under 20 bucks feels like robbery. I would pay 30 for this and be completely satisfied. My new favorite indie game, and definitely my go-to shooter for a while.
This game looks, feels, and plays like it came out on the 360 or the PS3. The engine is ancient, the voicelines are generic, the music kinda sucks to be quite honest, and some of the maps can have some wonky geometry in places. Make no mistake, this is its best quality, hands down, because its main concern is being a fun combined arms sandbox shooter. If you're an oldhead whos favourite shooter ever was Battlefield 2 and you never touched the multiplayer, stop reading this and buy the game, because you're going to get more of that. If you're a planetside fan, stop reading and buy it. If you liked either battlefront 2, stop reading and buy it because AFF is better than both of them. 18 quid is dirt cheap for the amount of hours you could get out of this game. And make sure you bully your friends into getting it too. This game is fun in a way that only >10 year old games can be. The fights are straightforward and feel chaotic yet readable. The weapon and vehicle sandbox has everything you want and none of it is bloat. Your loadout is stupidly customisable, and levelling up lets you gradually cram more and more stuff in it. Every match is a persistent lobby, on a server browser, with end of round map vote. If you want community servers, they exist and you can host one yourself. If the match isn't full, it gets populated with bots, and the bots are pretty good at the game and fun to play against. If your vehicle isn't fully crewed, the turret seats will act as AI gunners and don't even need bots occupying them to work. You can jump into a server on your own and piss about doing dumb nonsense all game. If you want to throw your friends in a squad and actually co-ordinate, AFF gives you great tools to do it, even without voice chat, and there's a commander mode if you want to co-ordinate a whole team. I've barely touched the vehicle gameplay, and haven't played a single space battle, and I've already had a pile of fun just running and gunning and getting owned by someone way better than me as some grunt. The biggest thing holding AFF back, other than the lack of attention, is that the official servers really need to go up to 64 players. And its not even a problem per say, every map plays great 16v16. I just really want to see how much more fun this game could get with the full playercount. Hell, this is a game where I think 64v64 would work amazingly, especially in the space battles. I'd also really, really like to see a party system, instead of having to tell my friends to join this server, this team, and this squad. Buy this game. Review it. Bully all your friends, family, cat, fish, and your favourite internet microcelebrity into playing it. Don't STFU about it. Because the current playercount is criminal for how good this game is, and I want AFF to see more numbers and more people to enjoy it. Genuine game of the year contended
UI was way better 10 years ago, I say this because I watched some tutorials/gameplay to be able to understand absolutely anything in game. Everything looks cluttered, the UI, the maps, the objectives. Too many weapons, thingamagingins and tools that feel like filler. For the life of me, if it was not because the overwhelming amount of on-screen useless info in the ugly UI, I would have not been able to tell apart enemies from allies. Both factions have really similar armor, and both can paint the armor the same colors! What an incredible idea! Don't get me started on the space combat, everything feels tiny, far and like a weird space physics simulator. Keybindings are just a joke, the scroll wheel moves through the list of weapons in the inventory at random. PD: played 3h hoped for something else based on the steam store page videos, which btw some look like 2009 angels fall first not the clutterfest that it is now. Realized I should've waited for some gameplay or something before buying and cannot get a refund and forget about it. I really wanted this game to be what it looked like, but I guess my hopes and dreams did fall first.
good nostalgic fun to hop in to rip a couple games at a time
