Absolutely *phenomenal* game. I genuinely am in awe that a gem like this is around today. I know it just released after years of being early access, but it's like a blast to the past for me. It's incredibly easy to jump in and out of, and the gameplay is a mix of peak late 2000s/early 2010s ground and vehicle combat and some of the most insanely satisfying space combat I've ever experienced. It's a steal for the price it's at.
Uncomplicated; yet incredibly clunky and hard to master. It's like the game itself has the unpolished-ness of a total-conversion mod for another game; yet it is it's own game. The art-style is nice for me, but may feel all too familiar or even outright plagiarized for others. The graphics feel like they're from the 2000's or m a y b e the very early 2010's; but it depends on the are in-game, and the point of view. But, if you're willing to tolerate all of that; it's otherwise a good game, due to it's excellent gunplay with almost R6-style lean mechanics, Halo-like gun variety, at least usable fighting vehicles, decent fighter-jet-esque gameplay, just don't get into this game expecting anything close to a modern or very polished PVP experience such as the likes of Halo: Reach or even Haze. I would recommend the game for some people, but as it stands; this game just isn't for me.

Past the initial whiplash of the lack of specific comforts and adjustments brought in by newer engines, after a teething period of a few hours AFF genuinely shines as an incredible game that I wish I'd picked up when it first began its growth back in 2016. I will genuinely implore anyone who picks this up - tough out how rough it can be at the start when you don't know what you're doing and you die over and over. After a bit of experience and you start picking up the ropes, AFF turns into the best kind of diamond in the rough with a glowing community and incredible variety in gameplay with surprisingly rewarding, if simple progression.
If you enjoyed OG Star wars Battlefront I/II or Halo 1-Reach (the good ones), then you will more than likely enjoy this game.
It delivers on everything it promises.
Kudos for the ambition. Play it now before the community gets ADHD. A lot of old school fun to be had. Needs some streamers to raid the game to pump it up. Bots as well, so it will never truly die.
I've followed this game for a good number of years. It was a rare gem to find something we really lacked from what many modern games fail to deliver. This small team of devs is showing that passion, patience, and persistence pays off. This was a game in Early Access for a long time and I do not blame the devs for being so incremental for so long. Game development is hard, even for experts. They could have quit and moved on to better things, but they didn't. They pushed this game and now it is finally out, (officially) Now is it worth it? Despite it being a rare gem, it is rough on the edges, even after its official launch. The game is clearly rooted from Unreal Tournament 3 (2007), and the quality shows that, from particle effects, animation, and user interface. Much of gamer expectations have changed over the years, and Angels Fall First needs many quality of life updates and polish to further its accessibility. Controller support is lacking. I have tried to map a suitable layout for my Steam Deck, but the complications of inputs is mind wrecking to bypass. If you want to play this game effectively, mouse-n’-key is probably the way to go for now. Aiming at a target with a stick is wonky and often overshoots, as well as the weapon selection being tied to the num-pad, which is where a radial menu could really come in handy. A well balanced aiming assist, and hopefully integrated gyro-aim could improve this immensely. The interface is, in my opinion, cluttered almost as much as a Ubisoft game, but with more useful information. Despite that, a crowded U.I can be distracting for players. Games will use visual effects to convey information to players. Consider Call of Duty and its well known blood-shot vignettes filters, representing players' health. In this game, I must keep a watchful eye on my armor and health because there are hardly any visual indications otherwise on my health. For a military-scifi-war game, it is rather quiet. Sound design is impressive so far for guns and spaceships, as I suspect they used hair dryers and vacuum cleaners for the engines, very Lucasfilm quality. More sounds are needed however. Foot-steps, vocals, projectile sonic-crack effects, and vehicle mechanics are needed if not only improved. I am rather excited to see how they develop these sounds on their budget. Should these criticisms prevent you from purchasing this game? For the price they are asking, I FULLY SUPPORT BUYING ANGELS FALL FIRST. I suggest this game to my friends and co-workers because I believe these devs are dedicated to the game, and hope that with the revenue they make from new players, I hope that they can dedicate more time, or even hire more devs to improve the game they miraculously squeezed on an antiquated engine.
Very unpolished, not what I was hoping for
love it
Bit of a learning curve, but holy crap is this game awesome. I haven't played an arcade shooter that kept me hooked like this since Battlefront 2 on the Xbox. This game gives those vibes, but where it combines that game with elements of battlefield or Planetside. Feels like a smaller scale singleplayer or multiplayer version of Planetside and its a ton of fun. I've mainly been playing with bots, since multiplayer matches are usually limited to 32 players or are private lobbies. BUT, you can host your own singleplayer (or open to the public) lobbies and set it to 64 players. The bots on their hardest difficulty setting are actually very competent and fun to play with. It really feels like an online match, where you almost forget they're all bots. It makes sense they are so good, considering the bots in Unreal Tournament and Tribes were awesome back in the day, and this is running on Unreal Engine 3 if you can believe it. The fact that it's under 20 bucks feels like robbery. I would pay 30 for this and be completely satisfied. My new favorite indie game, and definitely my go-to shooter for a while.
