One of my absolute favorite VR games! Very re-playable.
Really fun. map generation could be better. sometimes things spawn behind spikes and the only way to get the item is by taking damage which sucks when you only have 3 hearts of health.. One of the best steam vr games I have played though and well worth it for co op
Ancient Dungeon is a VR roguelite adventure developed and published by Eric Thullen that successfully combines the timeless appeal of dungeon crawling with the immersive strengths of virtual reality. Built around procedurally generated exploration, fast-paced combat, and permanent progression systems, the game delivers a rewarding experience that feels both familiar and fresh. Rather than relying solely on VR novelty, it focuses on creating a complete gameplay loop that encourages players to keep returning for another run, another discovery, and another chance to push deeper into its mysterious underground world. One of the game's most distinctive qualities is its voxel-inspired visual design. The blocky art style may appear simple at first glance, but it serves the game remarkably well. The environments are filled with atmospheric lighting, hidden passages, dangerous traps, and imaginative enemy designs that create a memorable fantasy setting. The visuals strike a balance between charm and practicality, allowing the game to maintain smooth performance while preserving a strong artistic identity. Every dungeon feels handcrafted despite the procedural generation, helping the world remain engaging even after many hours of play. Exploration is at the heart of the experience. Each dungeon run presents a unique layout filled with branching paths, hidden rooms, treasures, and secrets waiting to be uncovered. The unpredictability of every expedition keeps the gameplay exciting because players never know exactly what lies ahead. This constant sense of discovery is one of the title's greatest strengths. The game rewards curiosity, encouraging players to search every corner for valuable loot, upgrades, and hidden opportunities that can improve their chances of survival. Combat feels especially satisfying because it takes full advantage of VR interaction. Swinging weapons, throwing blades, and maneuvering around enemies create a physical sense of involvement that traditional games cannot easily replicate. Encounters demand both awareness and skill, requiring players to react quickly while managing positioning and timing. The controls are intuitive and responsive, making every victory feel earned. Instead of becoming repetitive, battles remain engaging due to the variety of enemies and the dynamic nature of the dungeon layouts. The roguelite progression system gives the game excellent long-term appeal. While death is inevitable during many runs, each attempt contributes toward future success through unlockable upgrades and permanent improvements. This structure ensures that even failed expeditions feel productive. Players gradually become stronger while simultaneously improving their own understanding of enemy behavior, dungeon mechanics, and effective strategies. The balance between skill-based gameplay and persistent progression creates a satisfying sense of growth that keeps motivation high. Another major highlight is the cooperative multiplayer functionality. Exploring dungeons alongside friends adds a completely different dimension to the experience. Cooperative runs create opportunities for teamwork, shared discoveries, and coordinated combat encounters that make the adventure even more enjoyable. Rather than feeling like a secondary feature, multiplayer integrates naturally into the game's core design and significantly increases replay value for those who enjoy social gaming experiences. Ancient Dungeon also succeeds because it understands the addictive nature of roguelites. The combination of randomized content, meaningful rewards, hidden secrets, challenging encounters, and permanent progression creates a gameplay loop that consistently encourages one more attempt. Every run offers the possibility of finding new items, reaching unexplored areas, or overcoming challenges that previously seemed impossible. This constant cycle of risk and reward keeps the experience engaging for extended periods. The game is not entirely without limitations. Players seeking a heavily narrative-driven adventure may find the focus on gameplay systems and replayability more prominent than storytelling. Likewise, the voxel graphics may not appeal to those who prioritize visual realism. The challenge level can also feel demanding during the early stages, particularly for newcomers to roguelites or VR action games. However, these elements are largely intentional design choices and align well with the type of experience the game aims to provide. Ultimately, Ancient Dungeon stands as one of the strongest examples of how virtual reality can enhance a traditional genre without sacrificing depth. Its procedural exploration, responsive combat, rewarding progression, appealing visual style, and cooperative multiplayer all work together to create a highly polished and replayable adventure. By blending classic dungeon-crawling concepts with immersive VR mechanics, the game offers an experience that remains compelling long after the initial novelty wears off. Rating: 9/10
Good game to play with ur friends or alone
i love this game! i have it on meta quest but i got it on steam to mod it! can you make tome and wand work with monke movement
This dungeon... feels... ancient. heh. Get The Morning Star
As a long-time fan of Dungeons of Eternity, I really wanted to like this game. This is far from my final verdict, but so far, not really having a good time. The climbing mechanics feel wonky and weird (even for VR standards). The exploration so far feels more like another round of RNG punishment rather than any thoughtfully designed dungeon concepts. Enemies so far have been dumb and mostly predictable. Progress feels slow for the time it asks from the player. I suspect this may be a totally different experience with friends and am looking forward to trying that.
I went into Ancient Dungeon VR expecting a fun dungeon crawler, but I ended up getting completely hooked. The various style of combat feels incredibly satisfying slashing enemies, throwing knives, and discovering new upgrades never gets old. Personally I am a big fan of the crossbow so far. Every run feels fresh because the dungeons constantly change, and finding rare rooms or powerful relics always gave me that "one more run" feeling. The simple voxel graphics might not look impressive at first, but once you're inside the game, they really add to its charm. It's easy to lose track of time exploring, fighting, and seeing how far you can make it. If you're looking for a VR game that's easy to jump into but hard to put down, Ancient Dungeon VR is absolutely worth playing. I had a blast from start to finish. And plan to keep playing it!
amazing vr roguelike. with the sheer amount of content, itll take a while to fully complete the game dont question the mostly played on deck i knew this game was gonna be frame verified since the start of this year
