Air Forte

It’s an edutainment title with a very short (20mins) adventure where you practice maths, vocabulary and geography by flying into the right answers. I like the presentation and you can have four people play at once. It’s just a shame that there’s so little content. The breadth of what is tested is very limited e.g. maths is just about the twelve times table and there’s no ‘learning’ element e.g. a map to study geography or explanations of what nouns or verbs are. It’s clearly a game that was made very quickly, even using sound and music from Atom Zombie Smasher. It's clearly not worth the full asking price as is, but with a bit more time put in, it could have become a fairly good game for young children.

It's a good game for kids with educational value. However, the controls and the stutter in the graphics can make the game very difficult to play. It's also very short and can be beaten in less than 1 hour. There are more things to do than the main adventure, but the interest levels are low. Achievements are broken. Edit - Go into the game folder in Steam/Steamapps/Common/Airforte/Data and copy the steamwrapper.dll and rename it to steamwrap2.dll. This will make the achievements work. Edit - Fixed the stutter in the graphics by installing the new OpenAL to help fix sound issues as well. For some reason this solved the problem. This felt like a game you could play by typing in "Free Flash Games". Not worth the space it takes up.

Before I played this game, I never knew Chile is adjacent to Brazil. And the word 'adventure' is actually not a verb. If you are a high-school graduate like me but your school teachers were dummies who didn't teach you well, save yourself from the mark of illiterate and buy this game.

[h1]VEREDICT: 3/10.[/h1] Back when steam was olive green and indie games were becoming mainstream highlights, this was once a cool little game. But in its current state Air Forte is an unjustifiable purchase and it saddens me to suggest you look elsewhere. [b]MECHANICS: neutral.[/b] It's nothing fancy but it works. you control the plane by clicking, holding, and moving the mouse around while stuff floats on the screen. You're supposed to avoid certain items while chasing others as indicated by a prompt. It's good enough for a game that shouldn't take most kids more than 30 minutes. [b]CONTENT: neutral.[/b] The game oozes with typical Blendo Games charm — with quirky art, writing, and music. But it's short on modes and I've seen kids get their fill in under 20 minutes. [b]CONVENIENCE: negative.[/b] I tested this game on very different current machines and it just doesn't run properly. Even trying the suggested fixes does very little to improve performance. It might run fine in a Windows XP machine like I played with my kid cousins on 10 years ago. However, if a software doesn't support current technology I think it should "say so in the box". Blendo Games did release lots of its classic games as open-source by now and I'd hoped this would be one. Alas, it's unplayable as it is. [b]VALUE: negative.[/b] The value proposition was never great but it was once good enough. Now, even if you can get the game to run, it's simply not worth the price tag. [b]X-FACTOR: neutral.[/b] It's not really educational, as some claim, even for little kids. It does test you some knowledge you have, but if you don't have there's very little the game will do to actually teach you. You might pick up one of two tidbits of knowledge here, but so would a kid playing FIFA. It's a least a good model of game you can try to replicate if you're learning how to develop games — as it's very simple but fun — and I suppose that has educational value. This game is great! It was stuck there in my library for maybe a couple years, and it never picked my interest at all. Then today I thought "hey, let's see what the hell is this Air Forte", and turns out it is a hilarious little game by Blendo Games :D It is a simple educational-airplane-game with a funny story going on, and filled with these guys quirky humor. The epilogue is priceless! Plus, I learned where Honduras is, and greased my math cogs. Recommended!

It's an educational game for kids. I was a kid once, and I loved educational games to death, but even back then I would have found this game to be insultingly simple.

A cool educational game for children that adults won't mind playing with them. Has enjoyable music, art, and a unique sense of humor.

This game can't even run in Windows 10

A short, small little edutainment game for elementary school children. It's short, but presented well and decent in gameplay but the game seems to be badly coded and in-need of updating. It requires workarounds to run on Windows 8 + 10 and also needs adjustment to get achievements to work. I know Blendo are busy with other projects but a small patch would be appreciated. I'd like to give this game a neutral tilde (~), but as I don't like the issues it has it gets a thumbs down for the time being.
