About
You are the Viceroy – a leader charged by the Scorched Queen to reclaim the wilderness and discover lost riches for the Smoldering City, civilization's last bastion against the Blightstorm that destroyed the old world. Unlike most survival city builders where your focus is on a single city, in Against the Storm you must build a vast, prosperous network of settlements populated by diverse fantasy races, each with their own specializations and needs.
The wilderness holds many hidden dangers, and never-ending storms will batter your population into submission. If your settlements should fall, then the expedition may end – but not the game. Against the Storm is a roguelite city builder, meaning you will carry forward the resources, upgrades, and experience of your past expeditions each time you set off for a new journey into the wild.

Foxes, beavers, and lizards stand alongside humans and harpies in the struggle to survive. Utilize each group's strengths as you balance their varying needs, from housing and culinary preferences to taste in luxuries and recreation. Will you manufacture raincoats, brew ale, and bake pies to boost morale in the face of the oppressive hostility of the forest, or will you prioritize the needs of one species over another to operate more swiftly for the Scorched Queen?

Experience core city builder gameplay enhanced by roguelite replayability. Build and manage multiple settlements spread out across a large world map, all while collecting valuable meta-progression resources to upgrade the Smoldering City. Feel the pressure of an expectant monarch as the Scorched Queen demands constant progress while recurring Blightstorms pose an inevitable threat to your settlements. Manage your reputation to secure your success at any one settlement before moving on to establish another, constantly seeking new opportunities for growth, taking on unique challenges across multiple biomes, and bracing for the inevitable destruction of everything but the Smoldering City itself. How will you maximize each cycle to not just ensure the best fate for the Smoldering City, but for your career as Viceroy as well?

With hundreds of gameplay modifiers and 6 distinct biomes, every city location presents unique challenges for even the most resourceful Viceroy. Adjust your strategy to changing weather conditions and experiment with rosters of building blueprints and perks that can help your society thrive or bring it to ruin. Will you take on and complete additional objectives and delve deeper into the dangerous forest for potential boons, or will you approach with caution to ensure you operate within your capabilities? All the while, you never know what wares the Trader will bring next year, and the forest holds treasures and resources, but also ancient threats.

Laying the foundations for a new city is one of the most exciting moments in a city-building game. In Against the Storm, you'll have the opportunity to repeatedly experience this by creating new settlements, while still interacting with your network of previously established cities in a growing world.

Highly recommend it. Very fun, played 10h straight on day 1. Highly addictive.
Truly such an addicting game. Put many more hours into this when it was on Game Pass, but had to buy it here once it left. Having a blast working my way back through the campaign
I can't explain what it is, but this game scratches some specific itch for me that no other could in a very long time. I was completely hooked by Against the Storm, always wanting to go for another settlement and then another... It is a fantastic concept and it is very beautifully executed. Well done, Eremite Games! Looking forward to what you come up with next.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hella great game.
If you're someone who just can't get enough of building self-sufficient settlements that survive against the odds in games like Stronghold and Frostpunk but you've already mined their campaigns for all they're worth, then Against the Storm will satisfy your cravings with nigh infinite replayability and depth through its roguelite structure! I'm always a bit skeptical of roguelites as they can feel a bit shallow and repetitive at times compared to a more hand-crafted campaign, but I was surprised at how compelling the random factors you must adapt to, how campaign-like the overarching structure of going for seals was, and how deep the progression system was in constantly unlocking new mechanics that change the shape of the game in new ways, such as trade routes and the rainpunk system. Yes, there still is a certain level of repetition in building settlement after settlement, but for me, it's just got that certain je ne sais quoi I like in my roguelites where it doesn't just feel like some sort of slot machine. I'm having a blast with the game, but it's not without its potential issues to look out for: For one, as helpful as the tutorials and the interface can be...the game can still be rather overwhelming and confusing to grasp at first! I felt so confident going into my first game after playing the tutorials, only for it to feel like a nightmare trying to keep track of all the resource dependencies as well as the indecipherable menus with their endless array of buttons and doodads: it got to the point where I scrapped my settlement out of shame and restarted! I was almost scared off, but with a few more rounds of practice, I soon got into the groove, recognized the interface for what it was and appreciated just how much control and quality-of-life features there were at my fingertips, and just how much the game allows you to adapt out of (almost) any situation. The other thing is that the game is a TIME VAMPIRE. I thought this was going to be a snacky experience since it was a roguelite, but no, each settlement can take up to around two hours to complete, and you've got around 4 settlements to do per run, in a game that wants multiple runs from you: that adds up to a lot! And this is even when I started to get proficient with the game and running it at 3x speed! Maybe I'm just bad or that doesn't sound like much to some people, but there were times where I felt like my soul was being sucked away as I played, unable to pry myself away until the settlement was complete...and realize I've missed all of my real-life responsibilities I had planned to do. Where did the time go? It's both a compliment and a warning at how addictive this game can be! Heck, I even started to get stressed out from constantly running simulations in my head even when I was away from the game!
Great game, devs are always improving their game and are very good at listening to community feedback, and this is genuinely one of the easiest ways to lose a day and not realize it. Love the game and can't wait for a rainy weekend to dive back in.
I got hooked real fast and real good. Tried the game during the last free weekend, and loved it so much i bought it before the free weekend was even over. It's that good ! Graphics-wise its very nice, reminds me a lot of warcraft 3. Very cool. Runs perfectly on my 6+yo laptop, even with cpu turbo disabled because it's f*cking hot right now in europe and i don't want it to overheat. Gameplay-wise it's AWESOME, it's like scratching an itch i didn't know i had: build your city, and when its doing well enough, onto the next one. It fixes an issue i have (and i don't think im alone) with games like Civ, Stellaris or Cities Skylines, where i build massive cities or empires but get bored before the "end". At first i was kind of skeptical, but the whole game plays like a mix between a city builder and roguelike, every settlement is different, you have different races of villagers, different biomes, different effects, different buildings. So it doesn't get stale at all, au contraire, i often find myself going straight into another run because i can't wait to see of the next settlement is going to go. Oh and of course, there is an upgrade tree, and the difficulty levels don't just scale the difficulty but also bring new mechanics. Overall, brilliant idea, and brilliant execution. Would recommend to anyone that is into city builders / civ-like games or wants to try the genre.
