Afterimage is one of those games that I can completely understand why some people love... while also feeling absolutely nothing compelling enough to keep going myself. I dropped it after a few hours, and honestly, by then I felt like I had already seen what the game had to offer. The first impression was already shaky. While it does have its own visual identity, it never really delivers that “okay, now I get it” moment. Instead, it’s a very slow burn that never actually ignited for me. The strongest part of the game is easily its presentation. The hand-drawn art style is genuinely beautiful, with clear Ender Magnolia / Ender Lilies DNA in the character design, even if the world itself goes in a different direction. Enemy variety is also surprisingly strong: different creatures, movesets, sounds, and biome-specific designs help the world feel visually alive. Sound effects are solid, and full voice acting is a nice touch. But once you actually start playing, things begin to fall apart. Movement never clicked for me. Even after unlocking a few abilities, traversal always felt... off. Hard to describe precisely, but the character movement lacks that tight, satisfying responsiveness. Combat doesn’t help much either. There’s a lot of weapon variety: swords, dual blades, heavier weapons, whips, each with different stats and movesets, which sounds great on paper. But actual encounters never demand much from you. Enemies look varied, but rarely threatening. Bosses are especially disappointing: none of the ones I fought felt memorable, dangerous, or mechanically interesting. Most fights boiled down to mashing attack, (eventually) healing, and moving on. And then there’s the story. Or whatever was happening there. Four hours in, I still had no clue what was going on, and by the end I was just smashing X through dialogue because I had completely checked out. This is not a bad game. That’s important. It’s not broken. It’s not incompetent. It just didn’t click for me. There are simply too many better options competing for your time. And honestly, that was the deciding factor. This wasn’t a rage quit. This was a “I respect what you’re doing, but I have dozens of (allegedly) better games waiting in my backlog” quit. TL;DR; Beautiful art, decent production values, weak movement feel, forgettable combat, confusing story, and almost no challenge. 6/10

Every market we collect.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

My favorite Metroidvania to this day. Aside from the gorgeous visuals, Afterimage's main selling point it that it's *huge*, the biggest map of any Metroidvania I know of. Because of that, how much you enjoy the game is going to depend a lot on how much you enjoy exploration, since you'll be spending a lot of time on it. Combat is solid, and having access to 6 weapon categories with their own movesets helps keep things fresh. The storytelling is needlessly cryptic but also doesn't get in the way too much, and it at least clears some things up at the very end. It's not a game for everyone, but it's fantastic if your tastes align with the game's priorities.
I haven't finished the game yet and I like to finish games before I can provide a full review. But I have played it long enough to understand its pros and cons and hopefully this may help some. Pros: Very good visuals and decent soundtrack. Game is zoomed out allowing you to have a good visual understanding of the surrounding environment. Controls are precise and responsive. No problems there. Story for once makes sense! There is dialogue that explains story and not a bunch of random notes or cryptic soulslike lore like similar metroidvania. There is weapon variety and talent tree to fit everyone's taste. Game is huge. Cons: Enemies: They have collision. This may not bother some but it can get frustrating in a few bosses especially flying ones (ex Auss). While there is an actual plethora of enemies in the game they have similar patterns, either they try to fall on you, do some charge or throw projectiles. Combat is not very engaging and most enemies can get stunlocked. Character's dodge hasn't got invisibility frames either unless there is an Afterimage later in the game that fixes that. Exploration: It feels very open which can be both good and bad thing. There are no separate rooms that break flow and pace but on the other hand is harder to keep track of locations without tons of markers. Furthermore, new areas are kind of obvious to get into which is not as exciting as randomly discovering them. This wow moment when you get into a random room and you find a new area is missing. Game also gives fast travel from very early. I guess it makes sense though because areas are huge. Platforming: Up to now (4th -5th area) normal platforming segments with double jumping and pogo. But maybe later it gets harder platforming segments. Lastly what bothered me is I have only a single slot for magic. In blasphemous for example you have 2 and 2 enhanced so 4 spells. I got a spell that allowed this to change later resulting in 2 slots so don't know for sure if later it can be possible to get more spells equipped. You cannot also cast spells mid air which is a bummer. Afterimage is a good game overall that goes for 5 euros on discounts. It has a few flaws here and there mostly combat related but it is worth your time.
Ambitious in scope with fluid controls, Afterimage wears its inspirations on its sleeve while becoming a metroidvania worthy of note. You may end up mashing buttons to shut the sickeningly sweet characters up in order to get back to traversing multiple vistas and end up getting lost several times along the way until you discover more move tech abilities. Amateur cartographers welcome.
Its a fun, average Metroidvania. Its strength the artistry - Visuals & Music. Its faults - areas / game is too big, the story / quests feel aimless and convoluted; most boss fights should have been presented better (buildup/conclusion, actual boss fight mechanics).
