After You is a narrative game with puzzles, but it is not an easy game, here you will not have indicators or tutorials, nor can you save when you want. In After You you need to put all your attention and use paper and pencil to move forward, if you're looking for an easy game, this is not your game.

This is a first person exploration/puzzle game that was created by a single person. Having the latter in mind, I can't be too harsh with it. The puzzle style may not be everyone's cup of tea and the dev's description ("pen and pencil") might not be entirely accurate, but it still is quite accurate concerning one thing: It is quite a difficult game, at least until you figure out how the majority of the puzzles work. Game length depends on the time you will need to figure things out, but it should at least be a couple hours or more. On we go with the pros and cons:
PROS
- The puzzles mostly are difficult, as advertised - For the vast majority of the puzzles there are hints in the form of notes (that also help understand the story), that are helpful without outright giving the answers on your plate. Apart from notes, there are also other types of hints like numeric codes and photographs - Storywise it's an interesting mystery with a twist that
although unoriginal and a bit ridiculous
does explain certain things
(like why there's isn't anyone else around except for the main character)
- Sense of abandonment (in general) and creepiness (almost solely on Chapter 2) make for a good atmosphere - Graphics are passable and can be twitched to suit your preferences - Character movement is smooth - Environment and puzzle variety through three different chapters - There is voice acting for the main character, some cutscenes and the final sequence of the game, plus subtitles for anything that's being said - English text translation is very good, apart from a few mistakes here and there
CONS
- Game's buggy in certain sequences, mainly when interacting with keypads (sometimes -but not often- they get stuck on your screen when you try to return to the game) and when grabbing objects (Chapter 3). The latter was the biggest problem for me, because the objects you grab twist around uncontrollably when you move and can be stuck/lost, so you have to go grab something else and start over. Once an object I was carrying disappeared, then appeared right when I had to drop it, and the character ended up stuck inside a wall, unable to move. Had to reload the chapter. - Some puzzles are difficult for the wrong reason: Instead of requiring deductions, calculations etc., some of them are just very obscure. My main gripe concerns one particular progress point (it's not even a puzzle, just something you must do in order to open a door) in Chapter 2, where there is absolutely no hint on what to do, what you should look for and why you should look for it. Twas one of two instances where I had to use a guide because I was frustrated and grew impatient. - The puzzle difficulty is random, meaning they don't start easy and then get harder as you move on. For example, the very first puzzle of the game -which in hindsight is both obvious and ingenious at the same time- can get you stuck for hours in the very first area of the game (there's at least one player who spent 13+ hours on Chapter 1 because he refused to use a guide) - Chapter 3 feels disjointed and kind of unrelated to the first two chapters regarding both the story and the game mood up until that point - The voice acting during the end cutscene is really bad
VERDICT
Like I said in the beginning, this game is the love child of a single individual, so I can't be too tough on it. Considering that... - it was made by one person - there's at least a few hours of playing time - and that the game is almost always on sale, meaning you can get it for a couple bucks... it's a decent puzzle game that you should get if you're into atmospheric puzzle games that aren't a breeze in the difficulty department. I'm honestly looking forward to new, improved efforts from this dev.
The concept of the game really intrigued me, but I found it incredibly difficult. For most of the game I had to use a walkthrough that I found on youtube to help me figure out where the puzzles would be.. I became SO sick of the codes. Also, the storyline didn't make any sense? And then when you reach the end and finally find out what the whole thing was about it lasts for like 10 seconds before end credits roll. Yeah, no thanks. (Good job on the graphics tho!)
прошел главу даже доигрывать не буду
B and X Rated at the same time
I rarely excoriate hard work in games, but this one deserves it even though it's a solo developed game. Even the plotline although interesting is spoiled by the ending. So much effort was put into this game but it ultimately is a waste of nearly 2 hours due to just being plain badly finished.
Unfinished
As a game it suffers from inconsistent controls, sometimes you need to left click, sometimes you press E and other times you press R. Always the game has to remind you which key to press, it's that inconsistent. At one point it telly you to press T twice, which curiously only works once, after that you have to press T once only, and I get the impression the solo developer not only has poor command of English language and of American culture (you can see lots of left-hand drive car, and lots of cars are marked "police"). If only someone had play-tested the game early on and helped direct, it would have been playable. The game has a simple soundscape, which builds a bit of mood. But the sound effects for actions are often entirely missing, incorrect or far too quiet to hear. Which makes a lot of the puzzles just harder than necessary to solve.
No plot
I know this will spoil it for people, but it's a trail of destruction, dead people everywhere - not graphic mind you no bodies, you never see anyone else. But the story is delivered in scattered pieces of paper you have to stand near to to read, some of them make sense, some of them ramble, and all of them jar you our of what would have been an interesting game.
No puzzles
50% of the "escape room" puzzles are unsolvable without a guide - the best video guide I could find if you really really insist is this one, just ALT-TAB and hit play on it whenever you get stuck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOAF7OLQMl8 . The best text-based guide I could find is tricky to follow https://nodegamers.com/2023/06/03/after-you-trophy-guide/
Bin IT
I'm binning this one on many grounds, the last one of which is the use of an OUIJA board! If you got this far, check out some actually good story games. https://store.steampowered.com/curator/41773079-EmpathyGames/list/91358/
[After You]
MERHABALAR, Bulmaca türünde değişik bir yol izleyen oyun. Oyunda size ne yapmanız gerektiği hakkında hiçbir öğretici yok. Her şeyi siz tamamen kendiniz bulacaksınız ve oyunu kaydetme özelliği yok.
A pretty nice game. Nice story, nice puzzles (except the bark puzzle) and overall nice atmossphere. Thats pretty much all i can say about the game. The prize i also ok. I can recommend it
get it for the puzzles. it's not scary hard - just be observant - you'll figure it out.
but don't get attached to the story/elements cos it's disappointing in a bad way
