Quick thoughts with accompanying screenshots and video in Sinical Network
https://www.sinicalanimenetwork.com/post/absolute-alchemical-potion-quick-thoughts Absolute Alchemical Potion is Lotos Project's first visual novel release on Steam. It is an otome romance and fantasy visual novel featuring a female alchemist Celsia working in seclusion to brew a potion of immortality. Unfortunately, she failed in her attempt, so she enlists the help of a mage, her contract-bound demon-raven familiar, and her golem servant to figure out what went wrong, and to gather another set of ingredients to make a new potion. Absolute Alchemical Potion has plenty of attractive art in the form of blinking eyes, speech balloons, different-coloured character names, and cute chibis. This visual novel also has progressively unlockable story lore in the form of items in your bag and highlighted keywords in the glossary. In terms of background music, Orchestic and Shy by GentlePunk help to bring out the fantasy and romance themes in the story and are very pleasant to listen to. There are a few cons though, with the first being that the cute and expressive character artwork does not always match the tone of the text. This could be a disconnect where possibly I am not properly understanding the jokes, or that the jokes simply lack enough humour. There is also no save/load file organization present, such as having multiple pages or sections that you save your game into. With the game having four routes with multiple endings, this makes finding the save file that you want to use to target a particular route or ending quite challenging as you scroll through one long list of save files. It took around 4 hours to reach all endings and complete all the achievements. Helpful status window and ending conditions are clearly defined to help players get all endings and achievements. Although Absolute Alchemical Potion is somewhat short, it is a good otome fantasy romance visual novel to pick up when it is discounted to be more proportional to the playing time, and I hope this game will qualify for trading cards and normal profile features in future.
Pros
- Good artwork and BGM - Interesting characters and in-game lore - Well-defined player status and progress
Cons
- A little short to justify buying at full price - Humour could be brought out more - Issues with saving and loading game
Visual novel, JRPG, Anime Steam group - Join the group and consider following the group's curator list for more reviews or otome romance visual novels with at least one good ending
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/vnislife

Okay, okay... There are FAR too many things to address, so in overall... This is going to be a neutral review. First off, I believe this was meant for a younger audience... Such as teenagers. If you are of that age (and since I remember being one), then you might actually enjoy it. I say "might" because I don't know your preference. I will say this: IF this was an ADULT VISUAL NOVEL... It would work far better. They already have the CGs for it (not lewd, but could get there) and the main character? Goodness! She would fit right in as a DEMANDING MISTRESS! The other three could be her "toy boys" and each of these males can have a different interaction with her. Sure you need to change a story a bit... BUT IT WOULD WORK! That out of the way... This is how I understood what I read: The MC is a complete and utter b word, who only cares about science and herself. She is so GREAT, that no one else EVER compares to her. She demeans others and ENSURES that they know their place as her... SERVANT. Even in the end... It's the MALES who have trouble, NOT HER. The good part: it isn't overly... Annoying to say the least. Like... I understand it and didn't actually hate her to the point of wanting to do something about it... That's rather rare, but okay. She DOES become supposedly better in the end... But it's like this: ignorant/ everyone sucks but her to --> some compassion and she suddenly "falls" for someone. Okay look, there ARE romances that are like that... But it's more like she was lonely, so she needed "someone" to get her off kinda thing... I don't really think that's romance... But you be the judge. Basically... If you are here for romance... OH BOY. I think this story needed more of this: "he cupped her cheeks gently, making her heart beat faster". See that... I can get behind that... I mean there are some things like that in the end... But then... When she says "I am in love with him"... Everyone who reads goes: "SINCE WHEN?!" There is also a part where she "needs" the golem because she "can't cook or clean"... Is that really love...? (This is said near the end...) Kay the artwork: amazing. Music: fun. I have no qualms with those. They are really, really great. I was even fascinated with the rainbow effects on the hair. Just one thing: the CG doesn't always bring out the emotion that they drew, primarily of the scene that happened before it. Example: she laughs and basically tortures the mage (the German named one) with what he is super afraid with and then you get a CG of his nude body (not full and he does it like four times)... So you are supposed to be like "oh yeah...", I am like "UH... POOR GUY!!!!!!" The guys... The demon is a slave. The golem is a slave. The mage was turned into a slave. You like guys acting as slaves to an ignorant/goal oriented woman? Buddy... You've come to the right place!!! Oh wait, you wanted them to say something to fight back, well then... How do you suppress someone and continue to ensure they are to do everything you want them to? You tell them that they have no choice and if they want to live/escape... They better darn well help you! Also um... You don't really get attached to the characters... Maybe you get a little bit attached to the golem because he is a sweetie... But otherwise... Hmm... There are also other morals/lessons, but I will leave that up to you... I am split on those decisions myself. OVERALL... Is it bad? It wasn't boring (it's a freaking huge bonus). It wasn't annoying. (Another good bonus). I had pretty things to look at and listen to. I LOVE the room decorations! All of them! I like how the characters transformed. I like the colors. I may not fully approve of the MC and her ways and her SUDDEN CHANGES... But I read it. I had something to enjoy and I don't really think this is a fail, but rather like I said: needs a younger mind, that doesn't freaking think about EVERY... LITTLE... DETAIL. I will still keep reading things like this, because I believe fellow writers NEED to look at the work of others so they not only learn, but see what they like and don't like. That said, THANK YOU and I will keep up with your future projects... You never know what may happen. :D =) :3
Exiled scientist-alchemist Celsia had enough of living in complete seclusion in Barren Lands. Her ticket back into civilization is her newest and the most brilliant creation - Elixir of Immortality! With it, she will show all those ignorant old men, who had the guts to banish her into a wasteland, who's the best in the world! There is just a small problem, tiny really… the potion isn't ready yet. And what's worse, her latest attempt didn't go as expected and she ended up with sealed-up powers. Oh, and she also shrank in size! If word of this disaster reaches the Ministry of Mages it could mean her ultimate demise so there is no time for idle! Absolute Alchemical Potion is a standard otome game with three romanceable boys. What isn't much standard is the role of the main heroine - she is in a higher position than her suitors. Gestalt is her former assistant (and lover), Sitri is her familiar and Glem is her servant. Their interactions are influenced by this position and although I am not exactly a fan of this, it wasn't that bad. At least it was a change from the mostly naive and useless heroines. ;) The writing is rather good and most of the time engaging. At your disposal is even a logbook that describes the important facts about the game world. The visuals oscillate between pretty and average. There are a lot of additional visual effects that make the screen more vivid, but sometimes they can prove bothersome - like when the screen is shaking even with the text you want to read! The music is fine. There is no voice acting, but I don't take that as a bad point. I liked the look of the interface but totally hated the save system - it's done vertically and every time you want to save/load you need to scroll down… unbelievably bothersome. Searching for a specific save in the growing pile can also be rather confusing as you can only see the date and time of the saving - it's hard to recognize the scene just by that. The endings are influenced by affection and (Celsia's) character choices. You are free to control your status anytime you want. The game is quite linear and you shouldn't have any problems with going through all possible lines. You can even see the conditions for each ending! All in all, it's a nice otome game, good for a short relaxing gaming time. The characters are sympathetic and the story is rather interesting with quite a lot of funny moments. The quality of sprites and more importantly of CGs isn't consistent, but it isn't something that would put you off. The endings are pretty good and surprising!
Really wish Steam had a more nuanced rating system. 5/10 +1 for deep lore -1 for items you never use +1 for colorful art and expressive faces -1 for no real sense of agency (the choices don't really matter) -1 for lots of talking but not much action -1 for being remarkably predictable +1 for dialog being somewhat nuanced -1 for living with dudes/bathing with them around but the game acting weird about you kissing them I got two endings, I don't know if there are more than that. It's weird; despite the "revolutionary change" your character brings about in either ending, it feels like just another Tuesday.
I really couldn't get past the first few minutes. I started this knowing it's an otome, but I couldn't get past the initial plot point. I go from a grown woman and shrink into a pre-pubescent body. Wasn't expecting that, but that's what I get for skimming the front page of reviews. I don't know. Having the main character being small and child-like is too disturbing for me to continue any further.
Was looking for something short and lighthearted to play while I was bored, and I think this game lived up to that pretty well. Nothing spectacular comes to mind when I think of it, but I can say that it was an enjoyable distraction. I was smitten with the colorful artwork and unique character designs even if there were a few CG's that looked off proportion-wise. Furthermore, the amount of high quality CG's, sprites, and background illustrations is amazing and a pleasant surprise coming from a small visual novel developer. There are also a lot of chibis and multiple endings with some variations that make the game feel more "complete". The music is unremarkable but serves well enough for background noise. One of my favorite things about Absolute Alchemical Potion is the worldbuilding - despite it being a relatively short experience overall, there are a lot of cool details and thought put into the lore of the universe. Everything just works. Loved the creative applications of magic and alchemy and all the rules of the world that make me want to probe deeper into its history. I would say it's worth full price at only 7 dollars. Celsia is an entertaining protagonist as well. While I can't regard it as an otome masterpiece, if you do decide to play then know you're in for a small treat of a game that you probably won't regret. Unless you actually did hope to find the secret to immortality, in which case you will be left disappointed.
