I didn't expect much from playing this novel and I was right. The story is basically just 90% filler text and the artworks are not my cup of tea either.
It looked like a very cute and interesting game and I did fall in love with it's characters and the world they live in, but.. this game goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on without getting anywhere!! This. Game. Is. Boring. As. Heck. I can't say that I hate it, because I don't, but I also know that I probably should. I REALLY hope that I get to force myself to get through it one day, because the characters really warm my heart and I WANT to, but.. I can't. I just can't. Not now, at least. An hour of this game feels like you've spent years in a dungeon cell somewhere and it's really frustrating.. I really can't recommend, though I still hope that there are people out there who come to actually love it.. So, maybe, give it a try during a sale or something?
There's a huge amount of unnecessary dialogue. I found it quite dull and tedious to get through. The story is good, but it's just boring to read it. I sadly cannot give this game a positive review. This game basically feels too slow for my taste. Maybe you will enjoy it more. You can try it out. In the end: This game wasn't what I'd expected.
A cute Viual Novel game. nice pictures, nice graphic nice musik. nice story. all achievements work. The normal price is a bit to high but in offer alright. all in one 7/10.
Thought the game to be lighthearted due to the look of it. The art is really colourful, therefore also quite deciving how serious this game is. A nice contrast to be fair, the cute art can amplify the heavy tone. How can something so harmless looking, be so dark, to the point that the chest feel heavy with torment? A rather pleasant suprise. The art strongest point, is the colouring and the characters designs, despite them being chibis. But they had odd porportions in the CG:s most of the time .. The background are just blurried photos, not super distracting and they had a one to match each enviroment. Same with the music, the game had a beffiting tune every moment! They were catchy, sad, spooky and one in paticular that I found so cosy <3. It's enough to make them stuck in my head, and make me want to start the game, just to listen to the music, due to the comfortable feeling it had at times. The writing was simple, easy to follow. And times it was really engaging! But also what the game need to improve the most ..It could be more variaton in wording things. Don't know how many times they said ''He seems to have a headache'' or ''Running his hand through his hair''.( Which is divided between the love interests. two with headache, and two hair runners.) The most annoying part with the writting was .. that the characters themselves had to say every aspect of their personality, especially the bad parts, and so does the MC, then they counter it .. As if you never will get to know the characters unless they tell you their characteristic descriptions .. which also got boring to read at times, making all the romance scenes super forced. There were also some typos, not many to be much of a distraction. The story itself had .. a lot of sidetracking, to a point I was ''Wait .. which route am I on?'' Since the love interest seems to be hidden away a little with a lot of other things. Which could add a flavour to some routes, but also just be .. confusing. Although, they did tie everything nicely together, and nothing leaves hanging, making it feel fullfilling to know all the routes. All routes have a heavy topic, that involves the love interests, which was interesting. The love interests have a good dynamic between them, and rememberable personalites... till they butcher it with the writing, when they just say everything about themselves..Other than that, you can still get to know them. They could also angle one topic differenlty, which felt really refreshing, two different routes, two perspective. And something else important .. it's .. the game have a trustworthy skip-button <3 In the end, despite the writing of the characters, did I like this game. Espacially how heavy it could be, and dark, which what made this game good. My favorit routes were Vally and Luca's. <3 And last, I bought this game .. since I liked Vally's design .. And I did indeed get what I wanted and more of this game. :D
I started reading This World Unknown because in the previous story I read by ebi-hime in the Notes it was mentioned one of the characters resembled Asa here. So I just couldn't ignore that. I didn't want to bid farewell to those chars I truly became attached to! I keep reading the visual novels brought up by the author in the final part of the games. I love this feeling of connection! :) Here I kinda didn't expect too much, as it was said by the writer herself this is one of her early novels, the writing style is not very characteristic of her now or smth... Plus, I scanned the negative reviews, found complaints that dialogs are long and boring. So I decided it'd be just a good language practice as usual. But aww (♥ω♥*) all the routes, all the love options were truly captivating! She keeps writing that male characters, typical otome is not her forte but everything was fascinating! I felt connected to every character despite their great differences! Story-wise it's really a praise-worthy work! I llove how the main problem remaining in all routes was solved in different ways. I kinda got used to repetitive writing in case of many long routes when you just skip lots of already read part but not here. So many characters are skilfully portrayed, their stories, past experiences are so well-written. It was a real pleasure to get acquainted with them. They truly became close during my slow savoring of the story. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3027810559 Love is not the main focus despite romances in all routes and it's an amazing feature. I guess I can't imagine ebi-hime stories without angst, sorrow... Some heavy topics are mentioned here as well like war, bulling, physical disability, prostitution, racism, murder, poverty... https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3068217670 As usual my main praise remains about writing! I learnt some new words (for example, effigy, frump, puce, scion, facetious and others). I'm always grateful for that! And I truly enjoy how the story-telling drags me into that fantasy world and I FEEL all those intense emotions! I couldn't help but be sad when reading about heartbreaking stuff, but at the same time I giggled a lot during happy moments, too often with goofy grin on my face. That's what I want from my visual novels—to be educational but entertaining at the same time. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3021322270 Visually sprites look like a childish cartoon but soon it grew on me. Now I think everyone is so adorable this way!♥ What I also appreciated: +cards! +achievements! So plus one perfect game in steam collection! +not a kinetic novel. There's a steam guide. The only serious complaint I have is that spider CG in the gallery(( I feel Asa in this regard T_T I had to read that part hiding all the screen except the text :( Oh, and unusually long (for ebi-hime) list of typos:( So, I do recommend this captivating novel full of exciting adventure, love, friendship, and fascinating engaging dialogs! One more time after having finished ebi-hime's VN I feel grateful for the quality story and I pray she'll continue creating more and more visual novels! <3

[th]More thoughts about the game in a Reading Nook [/th]

Clair
This is a story set during archaic period in a small village where you work as a nurse tending to soldiers who had the chance to come back home from war.

Game’s premise:
This World Unknown is a choice-based Visual Novel about the bond between three childhood friends who took each their own path once grown up. The connection remained nonetheless loosening up due to everyday’s obligations. However, a mysterious illness seems to have contracted the priest of the village who happens to be one of the highest reference figures of inhabitants. The only villagers able to save him happen to be you along with Asa and Luca, your childhood friends who will have to take a dangerous path through the forest – at the end of the venue you should be able to find a helping individual, however the forest is inhabited by inhuman creatures addressed by most villagers as “dangerous monsters”. Will you be able to succeed at this mission and return taking this occasion as a possibility to reunite with your cherished friends?
Village’s setting:
The game is set during medieval era in a small village which happens to be very old-fashioned coming to the rules, fears and unacceptance enforced by the priest himself. While writing and reading are not of common knowledge and education is for privileged people only who had the luck of being born in wealthy families, the common inhabitants who are relatively ignorant are treated less seriously and wealthy personages are supposed to hold more importance in other people’s eyes. It is said there are demons outside the village and while there are different types of creatures such as dryads, slimes, succubi, etc – all of this has no matter to the obstinate priest. Who does not happen to be born as human is considered a dangerous monster. This causes several discriminations from the human side towards other beings, who at the same time realizing so, started to despise humans. The inhabitants are very religious and look up to the priest whom with the features of an angel is considered to be the messenger of God himself.
The three childhood friends:
Rhea is the main heroine of the story and while viewing herself as a typical ignorant girl who did not have any privilege such as attending school given her poverty, she happens to be really intelligent and observing. She might find difficult expressing herself with complex words not having had the opportunity to study, but she always manages to state her point of view clearly and not many people do notice it given the importance of difference of classes of each human being. Appears to be a simple clumsy girl at first, but she is really hardworking and passionate about everything she does, her work at the hospital included. Tends to go out of her way to make her patients feel at ease while conversating with them and listening to their troubles. Luca is one of the two childhood friends of Rhea. He decides to go off at war to serve the lands seeing it as an important duty to take as mature person while leaving to peace his cherished ones. He makes a promise with Rhea that he will surely return, however at his return the things don’t turn out equal to Rhea’s expectations. When he spots Rhea after re-entering the village he decides to avoid her and becomes a cold and distant person, unlike the typical reliable and collected Luca from years ago. He has a little sister named Lucia whom he cherishes a lot. Asa is the most easy-going out of the three friends. While he finds amusing to joke around and teasing Rhea, he is also a really hardworking person working at Meirin’s bakery. He often is not taken seriously by the surroundings given his personality.
Other characters:
Selene is the priest‘s daughter and while they both are seraphs, the villagers don’t look up to her the same way as to her father. She happens to lack confidence and really wants to work hard, but she feels like she can’t perform her duties properly which causes a lot of clumsiness during the work while her father is hospitalized. Doctor Valerian is the head Doctor of the hospital where Rhea is employed. He often mocks her and some people would describe him as sadist. Tends to scold the nurses a lot and while showing an impassive expression to the surroundings he cares about his work as well as the employers and other connections of his. Clair is Rhea’s cheeky friend and colleague. Most of the villagers despise her given she was born with two horns, but that was not the case of Doctor Valerian who treats her as an equal. Garrett is patient at Doctor Valerian’s hospital who was found with a broken leg at the entrance of the village. He is very upset at himself that he can do nothing but sit still while his comrades are on war. Aspires to be a real hero like the ones portrayed in books. Meirin is an elf woman who appears to have lived for centuries or so the rumors go. Not much is known about her whereabouts while she knows more than she should’ve about other villagers as she really does enjoy gossip.
Featurings:
This is a ~26h long Visual Novel featuring different routes determined by choices you take during the playthrough. The dialogues are not voiced but accompanied by few sound effects and background music that matches the mood of the scenes you are going through. The gameplay is really easy and with a bit of intuition it is possible to complete the routes with no use of guides. The story presents no sexual content and features romance and discovery of the background story of the characters that do surround you. Being an Otome game you play as a girl and are able to go out with male characters only. The heroine’s face is displayed and the character sprites are on point. While I really enjoyed the coloring of the sprites, what felt slightly amiss were the head proportions used by the artist. The characters were accompanied by simple backgrounds with generic idea of the surroundings to fit the scenes in question. The characters appear to be mostly cheerful and very endearing. While the narration is easy to apprehend and held at the right pace it presents periodic sad moments coming to background stories of the characters and the story setting.
Overall:
Recommended if you are looking for an easy-going read that still features sensible topics such as discriminations of diversity. Not recommended for public disliking fantasy genre.
