Review at Sinical Network
https://www.sinicalanimenetwork.com/post/2019/01/27/how-to-sing-to-open-your-heart-review How to Sing to Open Your Heart is an otome visual novel and third title of the Story of Eroolia series as a sequel to roseVeRte's earlier visual novel How to Fool a Liar King. The game features Princess Myana who is the leader of the luccretia (cat people featured in Story of Eroolia series) as the protagonist this time. After the events from How to Fool a Liar King, Princess Myana is magically teleported to Eroolia by the black cat from the earlier titles in the Story of Eroolia series to observe the pact between Laarz and Eroolia, and to visit luccretia that are living in Eroolia. Amidst the backdrop of mutual distrust and suspicion between humans and luccretia, Princess Myana is accompanied by her bodyguard Leona, her good friend, and diplomat Regina to work together with King Juli of Eroolia to see how luccretia are doing in Eroolia as well as to learn more about the Inadaptability Disease that is affecting luccretia. During her stay in Eroolia, she will get to know the black queen Ludovic as Juli's guard captain and King Juli's sister Princess Anna while also meeting all of the characters from How to Take Off Your Mask and How to Fool a Liar King. As with earlier titles of the Story of Eroolia series, the game has plenty of save slots to allow different gameplay and dialogue choices to be made during the game, with a small popup icon of Regina and Leona/Myana to reach a slightly different storyline branch and open a secret unlockable scene at the end of the prologue and the first 3 chapters. The chapter summary is retained in this visual novel, while the story and plot is also written as a romantic comedy with two endings. As a romantic comedy, it retains the charm and appeal in the Story of Eroolia series with cute characters, glittering CGs, and comical light-hearted moments with the appropriate background music Dojikko March and Haru no Yokan which accompany these moments. There are also pleasant and tense moments in between. Having a large cast of supporting characters with voice acting and a larger role helps to enhance all these parts out. In addition, the protagonist and a few main characters will also have outfit variety while there are also small variations in the facial expressions and ear movements for luccretian characters which make the artwork stand out. With 14 BGM from Music Atelier Amacha and Peritune, Ukiuki Lalala, Natsuiro no Campus and Tenshi no Yume are a few of the pleasant background music which are memorable. The theme song with vocals Kokouta and the insert song Issho ni which is also worked into the theme of the story are lively, upbeat and match the happy moments in the story. Having played through earlier titles of the series, I would also give props to the developer for keeping the character mannerisms and way of talking consistent. For example, Princess Myana and Leea would often end their sentences with mya and nya respectively, Regina might sometimes giggle when she's nervous, Princess Myana would tease someone to be her bride again, while Leona and Simon remain brash as ever, and Mars remains as an easygoing person who enjoys teasing people. Overall, How to Sing to Open Your Heart is the largest scale title from the Story of Eroolia series which has the largest cast of characters with a different voice actor or actress for each character. This game is recommended with the theme song DLC for the cute characters and fantasy world in Story of Eroolia as a romantic comedy featuring humans and luccretia with attractive and comedic artwork, pleasant background music, unique character personalities, and great voice acting to make the game feel satisfying after finishing it. Hope this game will qualify for Steam trading cards in future, and the developer will continue to expand on this series with a sequel as the main characters are memorable and consistent to have a long-term impression. I have voted the developer roseVeRte for the Best Developer Award in 2018 for producing three titles of the Story of Eroolia series after several years, and for being very responsive to fan feedback. Keep it up roseVeRte! Do you like cats? Do you enjoy a sweet love story? Well, How to Sing to Open Your Heart does contain both of them! A story about cat-like humans mixed with romance. As our princess of the cat-like human travels to the world of humans, she meets a mysterious man who is unlike any other guy she met before. I was very excited when I got the chance to try this game out since I always love giving visual novels a try. Some games end up totally surprising me and some leave me back with a sour taste. Sadly, in this case, it was the letter. I really enjoyed this game nonetheless and it had every potential of becoming a good otome game, however, it definitely has its flaws. On the side note, this is the third game of the Eroolia Series. While each game of this series is playable on its own, it's still recommended to play How to Take Off Your Mask and How to Fool a Liar King before starting How to Sing to Open Your Heart to be able to understand the happenings within this game. Myana, the princess of the Luccretia, is visiting Eroolia to form a new pact between Eroolia and Laarz, her hometown. First of all, I’m sure you’re wondering what Luccretia is. Well, they are basically a mix of humans and cats, they’re humans with cat ears and a tail. As you can already imagine, they both don’t really get along, in fact, Luccretias are getting deeply despised by the humans. The mysterious and cold man, Ludovic, is no exception. Still, Myana ends up getting really bothered by this man. They’re getting tangled into each other as the story goes on and start to care about each other more than they realize. First of all, the story was very predictable and you probably won’t keep playing this game if you are looking for a decent plot. In fact, the story tries to surprise its reader but fails to do so. The pacing of the story felt a bit weird as well, while it started very slow at first, the confession of Ludovic was very sudden and felt unnatural. It was a very sweet proposal, but the two of them didn’t really have the time to interact with each other and are in love with each other immediately. They just needed more time to properly getting to know each other and falling in love. Romance definitely needs time to develop. It’s also weird that Ludovic was attracted to Myana immediately, even though he was an Anti-Luccretia. This simply felt off, as he is supposed to hate them, but on the other hand, falls for one of the Luccretias at first sight. He tries to help her with everything as well, even though he didn’t really talk to her before, let alone knew anything about her. Another thing, which really felt weird was that the characters were just overly cute. I usually don’t mind adorable characters, in fact, I absolutely adore sweet girls. They’re just trying to be so cute, it’s starting to get cringy at some point. I know they’re supposed to be cat-people, I just don’t think it’s necessary to add “mya” and “nya” after every sentence. Yes, there are species of the Luccratia who always add “mya” or “nya”, included Myana. That’s why it was especially annoying since she was one of the main characters and this game resolves about her. It made them only seem more childish and immature. I couldn’t understand the actions of Myana at times as well, and she doesn’t seem like she is able to properly make decisions, while you would guess she has to be, I mean she’s a princess after all. It also seems to be like Ludovic is presented as a cold man at first glance, but is just too shy and nervous to actually show his real feelings. The premise of this cold, but sweet man, is very popular and definitely a nice character you will want to romance. I mean, who doesn’t like a man who is cold to everyone but when it comes to the person he loves, he will be the most adoring man ever existed? I just have to critique the way it is done, it feels like Ludovic was a really cool character at first, however, soon you will notice he is not that cool of a man and he really adores collecting plushies. Okay, so now you could argue about that point. While some don’t mind their man being into girly stuff, it definitely felt off that a supposedly cool man is actually just nervous and more importantly into plushies. It didn’t match his personality at all and will only change your opinion of him, maybe even to the worse side. And I can say with confidence, that most of the girls like a guy who is an actual man. If you like girly guys who only look like a proper man, Ludovic is definitely such a guy. As someone, who has read the previous games of this series, it was really exhausting going through the same plot over and over again. The Luccretias are hated by humans and that’s without question a serious topic. Even nowadays we still have a big problem with racists, however, that was always such a big deal in all three games, that at some point I started to wonder, how often do they want to mention it any further? I also don’t think simply wearing a headband with cat ears means that you are not against Luccretias nor that should even be necessary. I wished it wasn’t such a big deal presented all over again, but I doubt it will change in further games. If you’re tired of repetitive content, you definitely shouldn’t play all three games in one go. The graphics were really pretty and we already saw the characters in the previous games. Sadly, the CGs are very limited and don’t often display any kissing scenes. It felt a bit off when they were kissing, but you could only guess it through the sounds of the voice acting. It may be very confusing, but other than that, there are many cute CGs. In How to Sing to Open Your Heart, there are very beautiful soundtracks as well. You can even listen to an actual singer while Myana is singing and it sounds really calm. The singer for Myana definitely did a great job. The characters are voiced and it really matched their personalities. How to Sing to Open Your Heart is completely voiced in Japanese, even the main character Myana and she also sings in Japanese. The only thing I really have to critique about this is, like I have mentioned above, that the “nya” and “mya” sounds were very annoying in the voice acting as well. It just sounded childish and I wasn’t sure if this otome game isn’t even targeted towards younger girls. In the end, would I recommend How to Sing to Open Your Heart? As you have surely noticed, I have very mixed feelings about this game. While I’m absolutely in love with otome games, and visual novels in general, I can not recommend How to Sing to Open Your Heart wholeheartedly. This game sadly does not offer enough positive aspects, since its theme is repetitive after the third game, the character development does simply not exist and the romance was just rushed, even the story was predictable. However, this game contains very cute scenes of our main couple and looks absolutely gorgeous. How to Sing to Open Your Heart also made me chuckle a couple times. I would only recommend this game if you’ve played and really enjoyed its previous games How to Take Off Your Mask and How to Fool a Liar King otherwise, you might want to save your time for another game. Note: Before I begin this review, I just want to note that I helped edit How to Sing to Open Your Heart, so I won't comment on the writing or editing. However, I will still comment on other parts. Update: This is a slightly remastered version of an old review. For a review of the remastered game version, please click here.
Finding Love through the Power of Music ^^

Introduction
How to Sing to Open Your Heart is an otome (which implies romance, yes), fantasy visual novel and is the third game in the Eroolia series. (If you haven't played either How to Take Off Your Mask or How to Fool a Liar King, it would be a good idea to do so, especially the latter. However, this visual novel can be played without having played the previous games.) This time, you take on the role of Myana, the princess of Laarz, a country of cat people (luccretias). She visits Eroolia, the country of humans, on a diplomatic mission to strengthen the ties between her people and the people of Eroolia. This is a bit of a minor spoiler, so be forewarned.
At the end of How to Fool a Liar King, an alliance was established between Laarz and Eroolia, thanks to Regina, the princess of Ozzwa, who served as the neutral party.
However, almost upon immediately arriving in Eroolia's castle, Myana is rebuked by Ludovic, imperial guard captain to King Juli. As Myana finds out for herself, there are humans who do not take kindly to luccretias and Ludovic happens to be one of them. However, it seems that fate keeps bringing Myana and Ludovic together, so we are left to wonder... Will they find in love, despite the odds stacked against them, or will the hate between humans and luccretias end up being too much? I'll stop my story synopsis here to avoid further spoilers. In regards to gameplay, there is just the option of choices. There are two paths you can take: the teamwork and independent paths. The choices you make in the prologue, chapter one, and chapter two determine which path you're more likely to go on. That really is all there is to it.
Review
Ok, now let's move onto my critique. I've been following the Eroolia series since How to Take Off Your Mask and I really like the story behind How to Sing to Open Your Heart. I love Myana's character. As a princess, she's a strong ruler and she thinks about what's best for her people. She can be naive at times when it comes to the people of Eroolia, but that's understandable, considering that her exposure to humans before coming to Eroolia was very limited. The chemistry between her and Ludovic is definitely there. There are times when it gets serious between them and other times when it gets downright comedic. They're from different worlds but you can just feel that there's something between them that can't be denied. I love the return of previous characters as well, especially Regina and Lilia. Oh and I have to say that I absolutely love the introduction of Anna, princess of Eroolia and King Juli's younger sister. She is my favorite character in the entire series now. :D I feel that the story is very well-paced and it doesn't feel dragged out. In regards to art, it is beautiful and I totally love the CGs. Myana's new outfits are absolutely adorable. The soundtrack is nice to listen to as well. There are old music tracks from the previous games as well as new ones. Of course, there are plenty of Steam achievements although there are no trading cards. However, perhaps if there are enough sales, we may very well get them. ;) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1632103777 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1633631886
Conclusion
Overall, I highly enjoyed How to Sing to Open Your Heart. Each game in the Eroolia series keeps getting better and better, and I'd love to see more. Oh and yes, I'm definitely biased when I say that I want one with Anna as the main character. XD For the asking price, it's totally worth getting. You'll get plenty of gameplay and I almost forgot to mention but there's Japanese voice acting, too. The voices are a wonderful delight to listen to and make it worth the game's price. If you're especially a fan of VNs, I highly recommend checking this game out and supporting the developer to continue making great games like this. ^^
The Introverted Gamer and Otome Rakuen team up to give readers highly detailed, thorough reviews of hot romance games.
I finished the game and i want to say i LOVE IT!!!! it is both funny and dramatic in all the right places. i own and played all 3 now and i can say this series is amazing, definitely a must buy. and even if this is your first one it is still easy to follow as the game explains enough not to be in the dark if you never played the other 2. I am going to play this one a lot more to, even after finishing it. it is one of my favorite games just like the whole series.
The ‘Story of Eroolia’ series, made up of 3 games is a series I would recommend to anyone looking to play something fun and light-hearted. The games should be played in the following order to get the best experience out of the series, as the main character of the continuing games are introduced in the previous game. How to Take Off Your Mask How to Fool a Liar King How to Sing to Open Your Heart All 3 games make up a fun experience, featuring couples with a different chemistry while continuing to further build upon the overall story. How to Sing to Open Your Heart focuses on the love between Myana, the princess and ruler of Laarz who loves singing and Ludovic, the Chief of Imperial Guards in Eroolia who is easily misunderstood for his cold attitude but loves cute things. The game takes roughly 7-8 hours to complete when leaving the voices to run till the end and is split into two paths, the ‘independent’ and ‘team work’ route, affected by your answers throughout the chapters, both which are equally enjoyable. If your someone reading this who is new to the series, I’d recommend you pick up the first game and if your someone reading who’s already played the previous games, then you can look forward to another great game wrapping up the events of HTFALK.
INSTALLING NOTHING
[/strike]
