For a short period of time I had access to a VR headset, so this was the first real game I played in VR away from the basic stuff that Valve provided for introduction. I played for around 2 hours but It did take me awhile to set things up and get used to everything so my actual playtime is shorter than that. Although this is the first VR game I have played, and therefore I don't have anything to compare it to, I think this is a well made little indie game. I generally enjoy puzzle games and I thought it would be fun to try out an escape room type game. It's a pretty straight forward one and it's not difficult at all but the fun in this for me mainly came from the ability you have to really explore and search every nook and cranny. It's a lot more personal and immersive being able to literally crouch down and look under the sofa, or peer into a fish tank to look for fishies. In terms of play space I don't really have any room to move around, yet I still found it enjoyable to play. I just had to be a bit more careful. As my computer isn't quite up to scratch, I use my dad's computer whenever I can to get in some VR gaming. It being in the family house, it's pretty hard to get used to knowing that you look like a right tit looking under imaginary sofas or banging imaginary drums (which were in the other game I tried during this sesh) and hearing a voice in the distance laugh and go "You having fun there?". Why, yes. Yes I am. I was quite satisfied with this game and the amount of things in it that you could interact with. I imagine there is nothing more disappointing in VR than going to pick something up or interact with something and finding out that you can't. Anything that I wanted to look at in this game gave me the choice to, so I was quite pleased with that. Overall I think this was a fun little game for anyone looking for a quick little puzzle or even just a basic VR game to start off with. I found the graphics were good, which is important in VR, and the sound quite immersive, so I would definitely recommend this one. It's short but sweet. In a nut shell, another entry in the small and fun Escape Room VR genre. I wouldn't say that it was too challenging, a lot of the puzzles seemed quite obvious to me though, for others it could be different. It took me roughly 20 minutes to complete it and for that, I don't believe that the $10 price tag is worth it. Though, I still enjoyed it and the ending made me chuckle!
Escape rooms are pretty much the one genre that I don't think I'll ever get tired of, especially in VR, but I have to admit that a lot of the releases in the recent tides of escape room VR games have been kind of mediocre (which to be fair is pretty much the same as real-life escape rooms, which in my experience vary dramatically in quality). Abode is not one of those games. Pretty much everything about it is well-designed and high quality, there's lots of things to interact and play with, and it even has a little detective fedora that you can put on your virtual head while you solve its puzzles. The thing that's hard to explain but easy for anyone who's played a VR game to understand is how important that sort of thing is. When you can pick up a lit cigar that has nothing to do with any of the puzzles and pull an unlit cigar from a case and touch the ends together to light the unlit one, it's an insignificant action, but it does a lot to give you a sense of presence in the game, and Abode does that sort of thing really well. It's on the longer end of the spectrum as far as length goes, so you can get at least a little under an hour out of it. It's hard to say much without talking too much about the game, but if you like escape room games you'll love Abode. Escape!VR has been my favorite escape game ever since it came out, and it's still great, but Abode just took that seat.
This is the 4th escape room I've tried, and I must say it's my favorite. So many cool objects and the environment was very polished. The puzzles were also reasonable. Perhaps the hints could be optional and replaced with funny quotes or something. I thought the price was just right. Everyone wants it cheaper but when you think about it, a real escape room is about $25-30 per person. I highly recommend this one! Hope to see more games from you in the future.
This is a great 90 minute escape room with one giant flaw. You _need_ to ask for all the hints to escape. It establishes at the start that the glowing hockey pucks are hints. So I thought "Well, I'm going to win without hints of course." But the last nine hints are the pieces of the final puzzle itself. So yeah, no spoilers: use the hints.
good escape room...get it in a cheap bundle tho
Not a bad little VR title. As is the trend, it's another very SHORT VR title, however. I completed it in less than 2 hrs (tho I did need to go online for a hint once). Even so, it was quite fun, the puzzles weren't too hard - but hard enough to make you think. There were a couple of minor bugs. A key that I had which was supposed to go to my inventory, instead flew off through/into a wall. I spent a few minutes trying to find it, gave up, saved the game and loaded back in. When I did that, I found the key. Another time I picked up an object, teleported across the room and the item went flying, shattering, and making me lose an item inside. The aforementioned reload solved that problem too. The sound and ambiance is good. The use of controllers was adequate at least. I found them a bit clumsy a couple of times, but nothing that couldn't be overcome with a bit of perseverance. Overall it gets a thumbs up from me despite a couple quirks.
Short escape room game 1-2 hours A few bugs (that can be resolved by exiting and restarting the game) Teleport only movement with snap turning. The puzzles all make sense and don`t require looking up solutions. Pretty good for what it is.
It's fine. Simple VR escape room puzzle game. It kind of sucks to play since I'm used to smooth, normal locomotion from other games at this point, so being unable to move freely or turn at all was really frustrating. Very short game. I'm spoiled by other VR games at this point and this one feels fairly lacking on pretty much all fronts possible. It's entertaining enough if you can get this game for dirt cheap or in a bundle, but its normal price is too much at this point for how dated it feels.
