Some reviews are coy about this to avoid spoilers, but there's one VERY big content warning that will likely ruin the game for many people:
after the game ends, it's revealed that the main character is the love interest's daughter, even though they aren't aware of this. So the entire "romance" of the game is parent/child incest.
I dropped the game upon finding this out. Even if you're spoiler averse, I'd recommend clicking into the tag. I'm fine with sad endings, unhealthy relationship dynamics, etc., but that twist absolutely killed my interest in continuing the game and I wouldn't have spent $40 if I had known ahead of time.
1.Her profile was so beautiful that even just imagining it was enough to be enchanted by it. 2.Unbelievable. Why in the world is she so beautiful? Shes like a princess from a fairy tale 3.She really is beautiful..eren when she's eating.4.Her hands are bigger than mine. Her fingers are boch long and incredibly beaucifal 5....She really does look like a doll when she's sleeping 6.That beautiful face is something I will never get tired of seeing. 7.Her face looks even more lovely and vibrant than normal, and I couldn't help but burst out laughing as I lied there staring at her 然后观察着观察着自己把自己掰弯了 后面还黏黏糊糊的跟小姐告白 ...Miss Aria Yes, what is it? ......... I love you Hehe, I know Why? Ie would be terible if you got hurt too, lehiko This intense feeling of disgust began to bubble over inside of me. (t's like they're appraising her....gros. She's the damn lady of che house, and they know that) (Do they think they're being discreet or something? What a bunch of idiots..I wish they'd just getaway from her) 然后: It was only for a second. But that smile she secretly flashed was directed at me, I know it.(...Maybe I'm the stupid one. Standing here by myself getting all bent out of shape...)
The surprise "twist" at the end was a sucker punch and not in a good way. Ruined the game for me in away that pretty visuals and nice music can't make up for. It feels weird game that revolves so heavily around themes of autonomy would trick its audience into unknowingly supporting something reprehensible with zero pay off other than maybe a "Wow, okay. Gross." for their trouble. At least there's Sui, I guess.
Such a huge disappointment. I'm not into drama so I already knew this visual novel wouldn't hit the mark, but I naively thought the yuri romance could make up for it. And it honestly starts off interesting, but the VN quickly becomes a mess: if you're looking forward to the mystery, it ends up a bluff. If you are playing for the romance, it's simply not worth it and some of the implications simply make the yuri part... weird to say the least. So what's left? Just the art I guess, but even in that regard I've seen indie visual novels featuring more CGIs, character portraits or more variety in the backgrounds than in this one. At least I enjoyed the black and white scenes and the translation is pretty good with few typos, but of course that is far from being enough to justify the purchase. In the end, it's a budget and edgy visual novel with nice art. Not worth it unless you are into that and even then, I'd recommend to wait for a steam sale.
Iwakura Aria? A Painterly Summer of Secrets, Sisterhood, and Selfhood!
"A moody 1966 tale where a maid and an heir trade masks, clues, and glances—romance warms the halls while a mansion’s history chills the spine."
[1] Intro :
Set in postwar Japan’s 1966 summer, you step in as Ichiko, a young maid seeking safety at the Iwakura mansion—and meet Aria, the beautiful, burdened heir. What starts as suspense soon centers the women themselves: sisterhood, female solidarity, autonomy, and a slow unveiling of personhood. Expect a focused, shorter read with nine endings and choices that ripple into a future frame 33 years later, all wrapped in lush art and music.
[2] Game Experience :
This is a map-based visual novel: you roam rooms on a mansion map to trigger scenes, collect notes, and piece together motives. A lovely touch—Ichiko’s careful drawings—double as character beats and subtle clue cards. The production sings: painterly illustrations and collage-style cut-out panels often replace static CGs, evoking motion and emotional cross-cuts that sell the heat of an argument or the hush of a confession. Voice work is tender; the score does heavy mood-lifting from first half hour onward. Writing leans character-first. Reviews singled out Ichiko’s layered personality—shaped by hard life, not always flattering, but deeply human—and the way raw, roiling emotions surface before the girls can name them. The mystery scaffolds this arc rather than dominating it; Aria the “case” becomes Aria the person. Romance plays a bigger role than some expected (a plus if you came for yuri), with warmth that counterbalances the mansion’s cold mechanics. Branching is generous but not labyrinthine; nine endings reward mindful choices. A tip from veterans: “Trust in the Raspberry Pie”—yes, the story notices. On the rough edges: a few translation quirks/typos slip through; the length is on the shorter side (longer if you savor full VO); and some players bounced off a late epilogue twist delivered via short unlockable side stories after the true ending—effective for some, needlessly grim for others, especially if you wanted a purely sunny yuri aftertaste. Think Fata Morgana vibes in spirit (atmosphere, craft), not in size: smaller canvas, still moving.
[3] Pros and Cons :
(+) The Good Stuff / What Rocked / Why You'll Love It:

Gorgeous painterly art + cut-out panel staging that conveys motion and feeling—striking presentation.
Yuri romance with heart; sisterhood, solidarity, and autonomy anchor the suspense.
Ichiko is refreshingly complex and human; the “case” becomes character.
Atmosphere for days: top-tier music, strong VO, immediate vibes.
Map exploration and sketch-clue gimmick make investigation tactile—this mechanic is based.
Nine endings with a reflective 33-years-later frame that gives choices weight.
(-) The Bad Stuff / What Sucked / Why You Might Rage:

Shorter runtime; not the sweeping epic some VN fans might expect.
Translation has minor quirks/typos.
Mystery is a platform for character, not a puzzlebox—may feel soft to clue-hunters.
A late epilogue twist, gated in brief post-clear side stories, can undercut the “true” ending’s tone for some.

[4] Final Thoughts / The Verdict :
A beautifully crafted, emotionally honest yuri suspense VN where romance and self-determination take center stage. Come for the art and atmosphere, stay for Ichiko and Aria’s slow, human unmasking. The epilogue gambit may divide, but the journey is worth it. Verdict: heartfelt 8.5/10—small in scale, rich in feeling.
[5] Side Note / Shameless Plug :
Into atmospheric yuri tales with painterly art and layered emotion? Played it on the switch in my free time over a week, but I liked it enough to buy it here to support it. Definitely enjoyed reading this one and letting its ideas and themes (specifically of sisterhood, female solidarity and autonomy) stay with me long after I hit the credits. Highlights: The art being superb goes without saying, especially with the setting and tone they were aiming for, but what I found especially striking was the way the writer conveyed the emotions of the characters. There were certain scenes where they were able to convincingly depict these raw, roiling, emotions that the characters themselves don't fully understand or have come to terms with, but feel natural with their development, characterization, or the situation they are in. I also like Ichiko's characterization in particular. She has this layered personality that is clearly shaped by her previous life experiences, and it shifts around based on what situation she finds herself in. It doesn't conform to any given stereotype, and many times doesn't paint her in a 'good' light... but it does make her feel incredibly human. I like the way this was paced, and what it decided to focus on at the end of the day. The mystery itself here doesn't really weigh as heavily as the titular character it revolves around. What ultimately matters is her personhood being slowly unveiled using this mystery as the platform. Lastly, and it's relatively minor: I also like those panels they used in depicting certain key scenes that replace the usual CGs in VNs. It's more effective in showing the movement of the characters involved and progression of those scenes. Tip for players: Trust in the Raspberry Pie. It watches over you, and will guide you to happiness.
A badly-written, cheap romance novel that likes to pretend to be a mystery game. The "main mystery" and basically all the answers are given away not even halfway through the story. The narrative is full of holes, contradictions, rushed explanations, and dark moments or "plot twists" that come out of nowhere just so the story can pretend to be edgier than it actually is. Don't expect any meaningful action or development from characters that aren't the two leads, they're basically just there as ornaments. The side stories are just there to try to cram in last minute revelations that the writers couldn't fit in the main story because it would get in the way of the two lead's relationship. If ALL you want is romance (and not even a good one at that), then this game is for you. Otherwise, there are plenty of much, much better VNs out there, whether you want mystery or a love story.
EDIT: It's been about 2 months since I left this review and the game still does not open for me. In the last 2 months I tried deleting a huge swathe of files off my laptop, freeing up a lot of space, my laptop has been restarted numerous times, I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game multiple times in different folders, and nothing. The game refuses to open, and it doesn't even throw an error log so I can't troubleshoot what the problem might be. I left a message on the community hub 2 months ago asking for help and have received no offcial reply. Therefore, I have to reiterate that if you buy this VN (which is very expensive), it might stop working for seemingly no reason, and if this happens nobody will help you. As such, I would have to advise everybody to stay away from this VN no matter how pretty the art might be or how interesting the story. OLD REVIEW: The game doesn't launch. I bought it a month ago and it worked OK and read it for a few hours. Yesterday I tried to launch the game again to read more of it, but it won't open. I click play on Steam, but nothing happens. It doesn't throw me an error log or give me any error message, the game simply doesn't open at all. I restarted my laptop, uninstalled and reinstalled the game multiple times, checked the integrity of the game files, and disabled cloud saves to see if that would help, but nothing works. The game still refuses to open. Since I couldn't open the game through Steam, I thought I would open the game straight from the install folder instead and play it like that, but that also doesn't work. When I tried to open the game like that, I was hit with an error message saying the game has to be launched through Steam. I would love to read this VN since the art is beautiful and the bits of the story I was able to read so far were interesting, but since the VN is now literally unplayable I can't recommend it.
After reading Fata Morgana some years ago, I naturally had to support this new game. It's not the epic that Fata Mrogana was, but it's a moving story nonetheless. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and the writing enchanting. The moodiness and music were a perfect pairing. This is also the first yuri visual novel I've read, and it was simply beautiful. I highly recommend getting this one. If you're hesitant, know this review is your sign to buy it.
