This is a short walking sim, story-driven game with easy puzzle solving in order to progress. I beat the game in 2.4 hours. I love short story games like this, but this one was a bit rough to get through. The controls are clunky and movement is slow, and I encountered a few environment glitches. Graphics were nice though. I thought the concept of the story was interesting but I don't think it was executed well. With some polishing, I think I would have enjoyed it more.
A SECOND BEFORE US is a compact first-person adventure built around exploration, environmental storytelling, and a science-fiction mystery rather than action. Developed and published by DimleTeam, the game takes place after a sequence of catastrophes has pushed humanity toward an uncertain future. Civilization has survived, but survival has come with severe compromises. The resulting world is bleak, controlled, and deliberately impersonal, giving the adventure an atmosphere that immediately encourages curiosity about what happened and what remains hidden beneath its apparently orderly society. The player assumes the role of Colonist 183, an inhabitant of the Delta complex. Delta was established as a sanctuary where survivors could preserve knowledge and prepare humanity for whatever comes next. However, life inside this supposedly protective environment is governed by unsettling principles. Individual identities have been replaced with numerical designations, personal memories can be suppressed, and the inhabitants are expected to fulfill their assigned functions without questioning the system. This makes the mystery surrounding Colonist 183 more interesting because the protagonist begins as another component of an organized society before gradually encountering evidence that challenges the accepted version of reality. Much of the experience involves exploring locations, examining environmental details, finding useful objects, reading information, and completing straightforward objectives. There is little emphasis on combat or demanding reflexes. Instead, progress depends on curiosity and attention. The puzzles are generally simple and function more as interruptions to exploration than as elaborate challenges. Players accustomed to traditional puzzle adventures may find them too basic, but their simplicity allows the narrative to maintain a steady pace without forcing lengthy periods of trial and error. Environmental storytelling is one of the game's better qualities. Rather than explaining every element of its world through lengthy exposition, A SECOND BEFORE US places pieces of information throughout its locations and encourages players to construct a broader understanding themselves. The story touches on memory, individuality, obedience, identity, knowledge, and humanity's willingness to sacrifice personal freedom for collective survival. Not every idea receives the depth it deserves, but these themes give the relatively short adventure more substance than its modest production might initially suggest. The environments also help carry the experience. Scientific interiors establish the cold and controlled character of Delta, while other locations provide welcome changes in architecture and atmosphere. Exploring spaces such as the lighthouse and areas outside the sterile facilities prevents the visual presentation from feeling completely uniform. Lighting and environmental composition frequently create an effective feeling of loneliness, particularly when the player is moving through abandoned spaces without knowing exactly what occurred there. The game's independent production values are nevertheless apparent. Some environmental details look dated, graphical customization is limited, and interactions can occasionally feel awkward. Objects are not always as easy to identify or activate as they should be, which can turn an otherwise simple objective into a search for the correct interaction point. Movement can also feel somewhat slow for a game where walking and investigating constitute most of the gameplay. These issues are rarely disastrous, but they reduce the smoothness of an experience that depends heavily on uninterrupted exploration. Writing and presentation are similarly uneven. The overall premise is intriguing, and discovering the truth behind Delta provides enough motivation to continue, but portions of the English text can sound unnatural. Certain dramatic moments consequently lose some of their intended impact. The narrative also leaves room for interpretation instead of explaining every mystery directly. Players who enjoy ambiguous science-fiction storytelling may appreciate this approach, whereas those expecting a comprehensive explanation of every event could finish the game with unanswered questions. Its relatively short duration ultimately benefits the design. The basic exploration and puzzle mechanics would likely become repetitive if stretched across a considerably longer campaign. Instead, the game delivers its environments, mysteries, and central themes without excessive padding. Achievement hunters also have additional reasons to investigate the surroundings carefully, with 16 Steam achievements providing optional goals beyond simply reaching the conclusion. Steam Deck compatibility is less straightforward. A SECOND BEFORE US does not have an official Steam Deck Verified or Playable classification, so it should be regarded as an unverified experience rather than a title specifically optimized for Valve's handheld. Its partial controller support may also require additional configuration or the use of customized control mappings. Given its relatively simple first-person gameplay, running it through Proton may be possible, but players should not expect the seamless experience associated with officially verified games. Keyboard-and-mouse-style input mapped through the Steam Deck controls may provide a practical alternative when conventional gamepad behavior is inadequate. A SECOND BEFORE US is ultimately most suitable for players who appreciate short walking simulators, dystopian science fiction, mysterious facilities, and environmental storytelling. Those expecting action, sophisticated puzzles, extensive character interaction, or highly polished production values will probably find it limited. Its controls and technical roughness prevent it from reaching the potential of its premise, yet its lonely atmosphere and questions surrounding memory and identity give the journey a personality of its own. Despite its shortcomings, the game demonstrates considerable ambition for a small independent project. Its vision of a society where personal identity is considered expendable in the pursuit of humanity's continued existence creates an intriguing foundation, while the gradual investigation of Colonist 183's circumstances keeps the adventure moving. It is imperfect and occasionally awkward, but players prepared to accept those limitations can discover a thoughtful and atmospheric science-fiction mystery underneath them. Rating: 6/10
İndirimde 1-2 TL ye satın alıp oynanabilir. Post-apokaliptik bir dönemde uzay istasyonunda bir simulasyona tabi tutuluyoruz. Oynadığımız her dönem antik dönemi anlatıyor. Grafikler, sesler yeterli. Puzzle ve bulmacalar basit zorlanmadan yapılabilir. Ortalama 60 dakika oyun oynama imkanı sağlayan "A Second Before Us" bize bir bok anlatmıyor.
