This is a fun match 3 game to play with a variety of puzzle styles. There are the usual swap match 3, then there are levels where you click on icons of two or more which the game calls "collapse", then there is "puzzle" where you have a grid showing the outline of objects (leaves, pots, flowers, shells, etc.) and items fall from the sky continuously and you have to grab an item and put it over it's outline to fill in the puzzle. Later levels have sections where you have to place two of the items in order to fill it in, or boxes that have to be broken down by placing an object next to it. I loved those levels, they were a lot of fun. The story is barebones and illogical. A volcano errupted and destroyed a native village on some island. Explorer lady (I forgot her name) flies out to the island to help. We rebuild the village by playing the match 3 levels and earning gold which we spend on upgrades to the village (huts, pond, etc.) at the same time we find fragments of ancient artifacts (scroll, pot, etc.) which also earn money. (who are they buying from????!!!!) Background music is pleasant. No problem there. Sounds are okay too. Price? I bought it on sale because I'm cheap but it's worth what I paid for or even more. You decide for yourself to buy it full price or wait for a sale. My game took 10 hours to finish the story and now I have to replay levels to get all 3 stars to get all the achievements.
artifact quest 2 is a cookie cutter match-3 with everything you'd expect from a game like this, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. a few features make it rise above some other titles, and a couple make it hard to recommend. it's also a good example of why I prefer to finish games before reviewing them. at first it looked good enough for a thumbs up and I wasn't expecting any surprises down the road, but as I kept playing, some flaws became more and more obvious. the story is about an archeologist lady helping the inhabitants of an island restore their village and save them from a volcano eruption. the first game is not available on steam because it has a different publisher, so I'm not sure if there are any connections or references to it. maybe she started her artifacts store with the stuff she'd found in that one. 150 levels are available to play with our without a timer and there are 3 types of levels. regular match-3 has you flipping things around to remove tiles, as you'd expect, and there are no annoying spreading tiles, while on collapse levels you just click on identical things next to each other. two will do, but the more the better. and finally, puzzle levels have falling pieces that have to be caught and placed where they belong. this is one of the unique selling points, and while quick clicking is necessary, I found it a breath of fresh air and only had to retry one to get 3 stars. speaking of, the 3-star system works differently compared to other games. instead of a move limit or a score, the bar fills up by making more and more matches (on puzzle levels only speed matters). clearing 3 things at a time might not move it at all, but make a match of 5 or more and include as many removable tiles as you can and it will fill up faster. while it sounds fine on paper, I found it really tedious. admittedly, I wasn't playing very efficiently (not that the game tells you what's considered efficient besides 'the more the better'), but very often I was finished with the board, cleared almost every tile in not necessarily too many moves, yet my rating wasn't even at 1 star, let alone close to 3, so I had to keep matching for a couple more minutes. stars aren't used for anything, I just figured it'd be fun at first, then stuck with it for some masochistic reason. it doesn't help matters that power-ups are useless and boosters aren't much better. the former consists of a hammer OR a bomb, never both on the same level and they take quite a while to charge, though it might be faster with better matches. the hammer does what it says on the tin (affects a single square that might need more than one hit to disappear), but the bomb only clears 4 squares around it in the main directions (and only one 'layer' as well). boosters are created by matching 5+ things (much more on collapse levels). a coin gives some extra cash, lightning only works vertically, and dynamite is barely more effective than a bomb, destroying every square around it (still only one layer). using these all charge the rating bar faster, so there's that. money is used to pay for the restoration of the island, buying various buildings and such. playing with a timer can get you a speed bonus if you're fast, which is obviously not possible without a timer (my preferred and only way of playing), but by the time I was done with the 150 levels, I had enough money to buy everything. another source of income is money paid for pieces of artifacts. there are 7 of them, effectively dividing the levels into 7 sections, and you get a piece after every few levels. there are 5 types of collectibles as well, a piece is awarded randomly for every completed level. there's nothing wrong with random rewards if they're implemented properly, but there are 150 levels and 150 pieces to collect, yet due to rng, you most likely won't have every collectible by the end of the game. I had 50 of something I only needed 35 of and only 10 of something else I needed 20 of, for example. it's a very easy fix: once a set is complete, stop giving out more of it. much like stars, collectibles aren't used for anything except achievements, but since none of the collectibles are tied to any particular level or level type, who knows how many you'd have to replay to get them all? of course, for the same reason you can grind level 1 for 5 hours, won't make any difference. I can easily ignore collectibles, achievements or 100% completion, but I can't ignore bad game design and wasting people's time. from a technical standpoint it's mostly good. the graphics and music are what you'd expect, the former cute, the latter you'll want to turn off after some time, but all the necessary settings and options are there. separate volume sliders, windowed mode, tips can be turned off, that's relatively rare, but weirdly, the next level can't be selected from the map, only by pressing the 'play' button. and there's no way to go back to the island from the level complete screen, only from the pause menu. all in all, an average match-3 that should take 8-10 hours (give or take several based on how rng favors you and if you're going for 100%), but due to some questionable design decisions I'd recommend playing other games in the genre first.
Played this game over about 2 weeks every night while falling asleep, or as a brain teaser occasionally throughout the day. Love the small challenge in it and the fact that there is a relaxed mode with no time limit, so that you can wind down with the game. Easy achievements as well! It's a little gem of a game for calming yourself down or adding to a nighttime routine, at least in the short term.
Cute little fun time waster casual game. Cartoonish graphics, fun mini games, a good match 3 game. 10/10
I'm no fan of lengthe reviews that take ages to dig for the info I want (and often they don't even mention what I want to know), so I'll stick to the basics: Nice match block game with plenty of levels in different game modes; swap block to match 3, click group of at least 2, and some minigame where you have to put fitting pieces into silhouettes. Specials like lightning and dynamite, obstacles like blocked and covered tiles, and pre-placed rockets to hit separate areas and/or spark chain reactions, as well as different layouts add varity to the levels. Pleasant graphics. Window mode with fixed resolution (1366x768) or fullscreen. Unintrusive sound effects with separate sliders for music and sound effects. (I turn music off first thing in most games, so can't say anything about that.) Casual (non-timed) as well as timed mode. (I did not try the latter.) You can replay any level after you finished the story, if you like to get all stars, or just want to replay your favorite mode. Game pauses when you change the window, without some pesky menu popping up. I could not find a way to turn off the hint that appears when you haven't made a move for a while. There's a story around collecting artifacts, and rebuilding an island village, for which you collect coins and shards while playing the levels. The comments from villagers and cute details on the village screen deserve mention too. I especially like the 'click group' mode, and would like more such games. (Game calls it 'collapse'.) I got the game on sale for 1.49 euro, well suitable for my small funds. :)
Casual-challenging Match 3 game. 3 different puzzle styles- you do not get to choose which puzzle style you play, the game alternates between them in a set manner. Relaxed Mode has no timer, Regular Mode has a timer and time bonus associated with it (more challenging). There is no Steam Achievement for playing in timed mode- so the choice is purely up to you. Your main goal is to earn coins to buy buildings to restore a destroyed village. To get 3 stars on each level, you need to fill a meter in the upper left corner of the screen to light up the stars. It's more about making more matches or larger matches to fill the meter faster. There is no shuffle option or power-ups to buy- you get one power-up on each level that fills up as you make matches, and the game automatically reshuffles if you are out of moves (with a somewhat annoyingly long pause before it reshuffles). Graphics are a bit childish and basic, but IMHO, they are fine for a game like this. Music and sound fx are basic and what you will find in other Match 3 puzzle games. The story is basic and not deep- but it's a Match 3 game, not a narrative-driven RPG. ***Accessibility*** Very few settings in the Options menu. There are no settings for colorblindness modes- you will need to rely on system settings on your machine. Some colors are not well contrasted (for example "click twice to clear" tiles that are yellow-gold over light tan- the colors are very close and can be difficult to tell apart). No font or UI scaling option, and some font is small-ish and may be hard to read. The font color may be difficult for people with certain forms of colorblindness in places (medium brown on a tan background) Can be played with one hand, mouse only. No voice acting- no problem for Deaf or HoH players. People who have vision impairments will be the most affected, IMHO. Check contrast and color settings using the screenshots on the Store page to determine if you can see things well enough to play without difficulty. ****************************************************************** All in all, it's a fine Match 3 game, with the usual things. You will need to replay levels to get 3 stars on every one. You will likely need to replay levels to get all collectibles needed for some achievements (the collectible you get for completing a level is random, not set per level). You will grind if you want to 100% the game, just like in every other Match 3 game. Runs without issue on an older Windows 10 machine, no compatibility mode needed. Window 11 may need to use compatibility mode. Should run on a toaster. Full price feels fine to me, but if you have a tight budget, wait for a sale. (quick edit to fix typos)

This is a standard match 3 game. There are many levels to go through (150-ish?), different types of gameplay, and achievements, so ... There's a story in which you have to save an island by building back a village. It means "gold". However, building said village won't affect at all the gameplay (no bonus, no nothing). I've finished the game with 3 stars for every level - some levels are really difficult when aiming at those 3 stars - fortunately, there's a "casual" setting for those who don't want the hassle. Playing this on Win7 64bit without problem.
