Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 216: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆☆ (7/10) This one surprised me. 180 Files: The Aegis Project is a spy thriller Interactive Fiction (IF) where you play as an undercover agent tangled in a web of conspiracy, double-crosses, and shady biotech projects. It’s smartly written, lean, and does a great job letting your choices shape the story. The characters are strong, the tension builds well, and the tone is very Mission Impossible meets X-Files. It’s a fast read. But it left me wanting more, and not always in a good way. If you’re looking for a short, well-written spy story where your choices and skills matter, The Aegis Project is worth your time. It’s polished, smart, and full of tension, but it also ends before it fully lands the emotional or narrative payoff. I liked what I played. I just wish there was more of it—more plot resolution, more time with Angel, and more space to take in the ending. 🕶️ Pros:

Tight, polished writing that’s easy to sink into. Every scene is written with clarity, style, and purpose. There are no typos or awkward phrasings—just smooth prose that keeps the pacing tight. The game strikes a nice balance between description and dialogue, and it always makes you feel in the moment without slowing you down.
For the most part, choices and stats seem to matter. This isn’t one of those IFs where you’re picking dialogue flavors. Your decisions shape relationships, mission outcomes, and your spy’s skill set. The stat system is clearly communicated, and skill checks feel realistic. Successes feel great, and failures surprisingly often branch into interesting results, not just dead ends. For example,
you are given many chances to mold your relationship with your coworkers and romance options. For one character, I refused to speak with or have a good relationship, just to see what would happen. The game respected this and did not push them onto me. We, of course, had a negative relationship at the end of the game. I also had the chance to tell a trusted friend I was a spy. I kept this a secret, and our relationship was permanently damaged. I love when my actions have consequences!

A solid cast of interesting characters. Whether you play your agent as cold, compassionate, sarcastic, or by-the-book, the game responds well. Angel is a standout (and deserves more screen time!), but even side characters have enough personality to make an impression. I really liked the James Bond-esque mentor spy.
Tension and mystery are handled really well. There’s always a sense that something bigger is going on beneath the surface. You're fed just enough clues to keep guessing, and the story avoids over-explaining or dumping lore all at once. It builds like a true espionage thriller should.
Really solid spy gameplay. You can break into super secret buildings, build your spy to be a hacker, sweet talk targets, and of course, use guns. Hell yeah.
😒 Cons:

My biggest issue is that it feels rather short—especially toward the end. Just when things start to ramp up, the story cuts to the epilogue. The pacing is strong throughout, but the ending feels rushed when you defeat the big bad. You get a few lines to explain your impact, but there's no real room to savor the consequences of everything you did.
Clearly setting up a sequel or spin-off. The plot doesn’t wrap cleanly; it leaves major threads open in a way that feels less like resolution and more like, “See you in Part 2!”
Angel deserved more! They're such a compelling character with great potential, and yet the game doesn’t explore them nearly enough. There are glimpses of backstory, chemistry, and intrigue, but there's not enough time. I would've gladly traded some other scenes for more time with them.
Epilogue is too brief to feel meaningful. After all the branching choices and tension, you get a very short summary of what happened next. It hits the "wrap-up" note but not the emotional payoff. I wanted more closure—and more reflection on who my spy became. The game is really amazing. The plot is engaging, charachters are very well written. One of the best Choise of Games, highly recommend.
I love this interactive novel so much - Agent 180 is so amazing and I love the plot and fighting scenes a lot! Also it's hard to choose between RO, how can I when there's Murder Bae and silver fox Bond. Waiting on the sequel!

Cliched story, but always exciting. Had incredible fun choosing my decisions. Great game. More of that.
Really good game and intresting story, very reminicant of the older 'choose your own adventure' books many read as children. epic 007 feeling. a bit on the longer side of a story game.
007, IS THAT YOU?
Usually, I’m not the kind of person who reads stories about spies or secret agents, but this game caught my attention. I went in with low expectations, yet 180 Files: The Aegis Project turned out to be a surprisingly enjoyable piece of Interactive Fiction. It's not some hidden masterpiece - mainly because it’s simply too short to leave a lasting impact - but if you’re looking for a fun read before bed, it’s definitely worth checking out. Story The story is pretty straightforward - you're a secret agent on a mission to find out who killed a scientist. As usual, things end up being more complicated than expected, and you get drawn into something much bigger. Like I said at the beginning, The Aegis Project isn't some hidden gem, but it does enough things well to be genuinely fun to read. On top of the very competent writing, it has everything you'd expect from good interactive fiction: you can customize your character, shape your backstory, the romance options are well integrated into the story, and there's a satisfying number of choices (although most of them aren't particularly impactful). My only major complaint is that I would have liked more opportunities to express myself. The main character wasn't bad by any means, but it often felt like my only options were to be either the "good guy" or strictly business. Let me be something more. I'm not sure whether a sequel is planned, but the author planted a few (obvious) seeds here and there, so I wouldn't be surprised if it happens sooner or later. Audio & Visuals This game is purely text-based, so there’s not much to comment on in terms of audio or visuals. Still, I’ll leave my usual note for interactive fiction: even basic visuals and audio could make these games more accessible and appealing to a wider audience, similar to what Roadwarden or Wayfarer have done. Technicalities The lack of a save system - or at least a "back to the previous page" button - is just incredibly frustrating. I can’t stress enough how much I dislike it when interactive fiction games do this. It’s all too easy to misclick on a choice you didn’t intend, especially in longer games, so give players a way to fix it. I didn't notice any bugs, typos, or other issues.
I really enjoyed this game! The pacing was great, and I always felt like I was in control. I've only done one playthrough so far, but I can tell that there are plenty of paths that I could have taken, and I'm excited to complete them all! First of all, I love the customisation options for your MC's appearance and background. I personally adore suave and cunning characters, so I'm glad that I got to make him exactly that lol. I can't stop thinking about and expanding his backstory, and I got super invested in him super quickly, which doesn't always happen in CoG/HG games. In terms of gameplay, I really enjoyed the plot, dialogue, and characters. Angel is definitely my favourite so far, his character is super interesting and I got super excited whenever he was in a scene. I also love the witty banter and I can't resist flirting with the enemy (or any other character, for that matter haha). I also love 100, and I'm very intrigued to see where his story goes. Most of the stat choices are pretty obvious, so it wasn't the most difficult of games, but that didn't affect my experience with it at all because the plot was so good. I also really liked how your choices had actual impacts on the turnout of the game, so I felt the weight of each one. I guess the only problem that I had with it is that I felt like it all wrapped up a bit too quickly, like another review says. Even if it was setting up for the next game (which I'm hoping will happen!), I felt the ending came quite abruptly.
I really enjoyed Angel's epilogue though!
Overall, this game gives a perfect mix of spies and romance, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who's a fan of these genres. Thank you so much for making such a great game, and I'm looking forward to anything that comes next!
Really interesting plot. I've enjoyed it. Rereading is always bring something new. Even after 5th walkthrough.
This is one of the best IF games I've ever played. I love the story, our MC, and even the villains. I think Angel is my favorite character, they're great fun and their romance is 10/10 good stuff. If a sequel ever comes out I would buy it in a heartbeat.
