Are you still, still breathin' Are you still Breathin' Breathe into my hands I'll cup them like a glass to drink from Tattle Tale - Glass Vase Cello Case, з саундтреку до But I’m a Cheerleader (1999)
The store page described com__et as queer romance/horror and I couldn't agree more.
You are a girl, and there's this girl you're friends with. Wait, do you feel something else..? You can't find the right words but you feel they're there...
The story and it's coolest feature
The thing about com__et is that certain words are invisible at first. You have to make certain choices to find out the whole story. This feature is great, I loved exploring the novel and I think the idea is pretty unique. If I'm being honest, I think the story could be a bit more interesting and maybe a bit longer. Every run was so short! But it's probably because it's hard to wirte a novel like this — the text should be coherent even when certain parts of it are hidden. I also do not want to critique the plot because it's basically a big metaphor for... well. For something. You'll find out. Btw, I appreciate the theme of this novel. Great choice, kudos to the author.
Overall
A great choice if you have 30 minutes of free time. Try this out if you like short LGBTQ+ novels! A fun little VN with an interesting gimmick. It's a seemingly straightforward story about a female main character talking to her friend about the boy she likes, who winds up falling into a relationship with him after a bit of coaxing from her friend... or is it? Though the VN initially reads like a love story, there's a little more going on underneath the surface. It's apparent during the first readthrough that certain words, or even large amounts of text, are obscured from the reader, which get revealed during subsequent playthroughs to let you know how the main character is really feeling about the boy she supposedly 'likes'. It's a clever idea which I don't think I've seen done in a VN before, and it leads to some fun 'ah-ha' moments on a replay when you see what's really going down. A big part of the story seems to be dealing with repressed romantic feelings, so literally censoring the main character's thoughts from the reader in a 1st person setting works really well in tandem with this theme. The main character is so in denial about how she actually feels, she literally hides it from the player until they do another playthrough to really 'get inside her head', so to speak. It was a lot of fun! As for the technical aspects, I think it could've used a bit more polishing. This VN does use stock Ren'py for the options and save/load screen, which always looks a little cheap to me. I don't mind stock Ren'py for free VNs, since... Well, they're free, but as this VN has a price tag, it would've been nice if the UI had been customised a bit more. Stock Ren'py is fine and it's perfectly functional, but it would've made the experience look more aesthetically pleasing. Also, I didn't like the music very much. I'm not a pro when it comes to music so it's hard to really describe my issues with it, but the tracks all sounded very 'loud' even when I had my volume turned down, and the instuments used seemed to 'clash' with one another. Maybe the BGM suits the uneasy feelings of the main character, but it wasn't very pleasant to listen to. I think the reading experience would probably be improved if you muted the VN and stuck some Aphex Twin on in the background or something. Despite these gripes, this was a nice read which does some cool, creative things in Ren'py I haven't seen before. I'll leave a positive review because, though brief, I enjoyed my time with this story, and I think cool indie projects by passionate individuals like this could always use a bit more attention. If you want a nice short story to read through which won't eat up too much time, this is well worth checking out!
A short, but interesting queer VN. It took about 45 minutes for me to see everything the game had to offer, but I enjoyed playing all the way through. The mechanic of text appearing based on what you choose to say was super interesting, and used in a great way. It did leave a lot of gaps in the text at first playthrough, making it a bit hard to read, though I got used to it pretty quickly. Can't say I felt the horror elements all that much, but that wasn't my main reason for playing it, so it wasn't a big deal for me. Overall, a fun and quick experience that's worth its price.
Doomed yuri win!
it's a cool idea, hiding text on the first playthrough and changing meanings because of that. also has one of the best jokes i have seen in a while. kind of easy to miss but i don't want to spoil it.
has to do with the name though
not much i would change. a really solid queer visual novel. had a fun hour spent with it.
