old but gold
The game just oozes charm and personality, with so much life and color in the characters and details of the world. Somewhat heavy story, too. A very fulfilling, dense, 20-hour experience. I'm a big Falcom guy, but didn't get far in the first Zwei before quitting and I almost refunded this one early on as well because I swear it doesn't tell you where to go at first, so I was just meandering around the map trying to figure it out, but every other location is told to you in cutscenes and in the menu. Another reviewer mentioned not knowing what to do with the parts, but the game tells you early to take them to the airstrip garage and there's even flavor text in the menu that tells you explicitly to take it there. That being said, the game doesn't really hold your hand too much - there were a number of boss fights and dungeons where I was slowly losing health and using up food simply because I was trying to figure out how to deal damage to that boss' gimmick or navigate the traps in the dungeon. By the end of the game, I still wasn't sure how to cast arcanum and never used it the entire game - I tried every button and even looked online at the one guide that exists for this game, no luck. Some sort of tutorial menu accessible at any point after the fact would've been nice. Another plus is the food EXP and exchange mechanic - very addictive and they give you so much food, you should never have to grind. It's very fun watching damage number go up (sort of like leveling in Dark Souls, if you think about it) One of the only real downsides is that I experienced several crashes in the final hours of the game, including after the two back-to-back final boss fights (before the credits roll), so I had to do those all over again and sit through the unskippable cutscenes to see the end of the game. All in all, a very charming and satisfying game from the folks over at Falcom
Game looks great, plays great for an old game. Unable to play due to graphical issues. Game launches poorly. Zero in game graphical changes even the bare minimum or full screen and windowed... lost almost an hour(intro area has not save area) because I minimized to multitask on my PC. Only graphical changes can be made oustide the game through config... To resell a game and not give bare minimum grapical options is pure BS.
This is neither a recommend or a non-recommend. I am neutral with the game for the most part, it's alright. Fun but kind of repetitive. It crashed a few times on the first floor of one of the dungeons, always when I tried to strike one of the flying orange enemies. Otherwise, no issues with performance. If you have a huge back log as is, this tends to be the type of game that just sits in it for a long time. Otherwise, cute enough graphics, interesting enough level system. Took me pretty much exactly 20 hours.
