the opening cutscene proudly proclaims there are no more grues in Zork. Within two minutes, you can climb down a dark well and be eaten by a grue. 10/10 no notes.
I'm an old-time fan of the Zork series! Its worth every second of game time.
One of my first games I ever owned when I was a kid with a Windows 95 PC. I got it on steam because nostalgia. Great dialogues and fun
This game was actually amazing. 2 or 3 moments I was tempted to look up solutions, but everything was just about the perfect difficulty. Also bonus points for stupid humor
This game does have a lot of nostalgic charm, as many reviews have already stated. This game is from a bygone era and it comes with all the good and bad of puzzle games from that time period. The good comes in the form of the full motion video. The acting is over-the-top which is exactly what this game required. I particularly enjoyed the performance of Dirk Benedict. The humor is a plus also. The bad comes in the form of the puzzles and the navigation. Many of the puzzles are not logical in their solution, so the game devolves into a "use everything in your inventory on everything you encounter" mindset. The navigation can be frustrating at times....there are quick travel devices which could have been more conveniently placed. Trying to determine which areas can be visited or which things can be interacted with relies on very precise cursor placement. All that being said...if you enjoy cheap older games and are willing to put up with looking at a walk-through at some point then, by all means, give this one a try.;
Well here we are in 2026 and I am still loving this game. I was first introduced to the original Zork in 1977 by a colleague (he loved to snoop the ARPNET) at Cornell University on the PDP-10 mainframe I helped install. That was back in my early 40s and, heh heh, time flies...anyways, I found the game to be a great pleasure to play. I believe they even took some of my feedback when I told them they should implement a log of failed commands players input so they could create more 'catches'. Yup, I was there before the 'Alice in Wonderland' updates. Grand Inquisitor does a fantastic job of bringing the classic interactive book game to LIFE with top class acting. This game runs excellent on my Linux machine with just a bit of tinkering. I am 92 years old now and getting to relive my early years of messing around on Zork, and trying out all kinds of fun interactions.
Out of all of the graphical first person adventure games set in the Zork universe after the fall of Infocom, this one best captures the feel and fun of the original text adventures. Phenomenal game, even if you only play it once. Great fun.
Plays just like it did when I played 1998. All the nostalgia!! Runs smooth for a game from the 90s
Still to this day I swear this was one of the best Puzzle games of all time. The humorous wit, the puzzles, the story line. A perfect game.
