A Caelo Ad Terram.
For centuries the Protectorate have been the stalwart defenders of humanity’s ventures through the Orion Arm, guarding against enemies foreign and domestic of the United Earth Spheres. As humanity’s galactic infrastructure teeters on the brink of collapse over a deficit of the resource “flux,” the Protectorate brings honed tactics and heavy firepower to bear. Grow. Expand. Exterminate.
The Grell are a tide of highly evolved plant-like creatures that spawn sites of raw flux crystals through the galaxy, and humanity’s first contact with alien life. As external powers dive deeper into exploiting flux for faster than light travel, the once passive Grell have begun to flood across worlds, wiping out those who would threaten their biosphere. Expand your blooms by spreading the roots of your biomass across the battlefield, and rip apart your enemies with twisted evolutions from the acidic Harbinger to the rampaging Reaver.
Across a Million Worlds, We March.
The Legion of Truth are a fanatical empire from beyond the reaches of known space, devoted to their Emperor and a pantheon of god-like beings. Their armies crusade across the cosmos, bringing all in their path under the Idals, and purging those unwilling or unable to accept the voice. Drown your enemies with waves of expendable Thralls and Fanatics, and break your enemy under the treads of the titanic Terror Tank, a mobile fortress that can reconfigure with the tide of battle.
For Purpose. For Survival.
The Xol are civilization of autonomous robotic consciousness, brought to the brink of extinction by the dark crusade of the Legion. Though fiercely individualistic, they are united by one imperative: survival. As the tide of annihilation turns against them, the Xol will bring the most advanced robotics technology in the galaxy to bear, wield the accumulated genius of their society, and wipe out all who threaten their future.

I rarely refund games, even if I don't like them, but this is one of them. I like WASD controls for my RTS games that require you to also use a mouse and other keys around WASD. I tried to rebind these keys, and it was a disaster. There are WELL OVER 100 different bindable actions, all of which are bound by default, down to a specific unit action. For example, my W key was bound to a build option for like 8+ different buildings. That means I have to scroll through EVERY SINGLE HOTKEY and unbind everything from WASD just to get WASD to work. That was already the worst RTS experience I've had in years. There is a button to let you see conflicting keybinds, but it doesn't even show them all so you're still forced to scroll through the list. I also though believe that this game is using computer generated slop ("art") for certain in-game portraits in menus, which is not disclosed with an "AI Disclaimer", which could get this taken down by Steam :/

What they've created here is a very fresh and fun take on the RTS. Galactic war mode offers a fun way to do co-operative multiplayer pve missions that pit you against other player chosen factions to conquer galactic territory for your team. The versus gameplay is also extremely compelling. The campaign is only like 1/4 done I believe. What they've release so far is very good with various difficulty options to choose from. It is still early access, and some UI issues are present but not to a degree that it's come close outweighing the fun I've been having and the dev team seems actively engaged to work out issues fast.
Refunded for now, but I will check back in when it is more polished. Positive review because the core game design is good.
General foundation for something really great is there. - Good coop - Good versus experience - Good campaign - Good pathing and feeling - Brings variation but still maintains the intense RTS feeling Is still rough around the edges in terms of UI and such. Support the devs and let this game cook. It’ll be even greater!
Just save your money. They made the exact same mistakes Stormgate made, except a LOT worse. Spam the right units, take the control XP towers, or lose quickly. In Stormgate, the towers granted decent bonuses that you could still contest against by expanding quickly, or even be ahead of the opponent. In Stormgate, a guy on 2 bases controlling the towers will completely dominate a guy on 4-5 bases. There is no clever teching allowed since the benefits from the watch towers are insanely huge. They also decided that if you can't see uphill then you can't see what's attacking you even though every map is up and down. They also literally took macro out of the game, basically turning the game into Rock paper scissors unit compositions with a level 3 Dota/League hero. If I wanted to play League/Dota I'd play that. If I wanted to play RTS there's already some good ones. The defenders advantage in the game is also insane, particularly for Grell, whom if you've played SC2.. the 'creep tumors' Grel has have 250 HP and are free, and can be upgraded for 75 (nothing in this game) minerals to become a turret with 400HP in 10 seconds during midgame. So if you're trying to push across the map, they can just turn all of them into turrets!! By the time you get through 6000 extra hp and all your troops are damaged, they've bought enough time. Bases for all players can be upgraded quickly to high range medium damage turrets that take small armies to kill for just 150 resources. People say the 1v1 scene isn't important for a game, but a large amount of people trying this game are playing 1v1s. Once people realize "hey when I lose control of the watch towers for whatever reason, I basically lose", they are bound to quit unless they are an adrenaline junkie. Due to the immediate fast pace of the game (no time for color commentary or buildup), the poor graphical readability, and of course the weird SEVEN merc factions (~40 different units mixed into thematic races), you can be sure the viewer will have no idea what's going on. There are so many units that just look entirely similar. Basically all the infantry in the game other than Bastion just look like a tall slim guy with a rifle. There's 3 types of snipers with almost identical models as well. The game is just a mess. I'd go as far to say that I enjoyed Stormgate a lot more than this game. It at least had two races that matched their thematics and had some type of vision. Because of the low player count, you are consistently forced to play people way higher and way lower than your MMR. So you just get stomped by someone who is near the top of ladder, or feel terrible beating some guy who just installed. They also oddly start new players at 1,400 MMR, where players at least know what they are doing.
Huge potential for a deep and enjoyable competitive scene. Unit control is smooth, there's lots of variety and they're already taking an active hand in balancing with a patch that dropped the morning of July 25th. It will feel familiar if you played Starcraft or Warcraft, but the strategies and builds are very different and distinct. The campaign and galactic war co-op are also quite solid, I'm more of a PvP person myself but there's a good amount of PvE content here and they clearly plan to continue making more. The game can be a tiny bit rough around the edges but I've run into no performance issues so far playing on a gaming laptop from 2021. If you think a Blizzard-style RTS with probably 25-30 hours of PvE content and a competitively deep online ladder is worth the price, I'd say it's worth a purchase. Early access can be offputting for some but it also makes it clear that they have plans to continue adding more to the game.
Galactic war destroyed my fingers and social life, can recommend. Lower end machines will struggle at time of writing.
AVOID like the plague. The dialogue is flat, the characters are too. Outside of that the gameplay is beyond boring and repeative. It is like I am now just playing it to hate play it not cause I am happy. This is like if Starcraft and Candy Crush had a baby and it was as ugly as you can imagine!
