HATFALL is a high-energy game of skill and hat-wearing born from Zero Punctuation, the hit online video series from The Escapist, created by the man behind ZP, Ben 'Yahtzee' Croshaw.

I love Yahtzee's sense of humor, and there's a lot of interesting nuance in the game, but somewhat ironically, the primary gameplay loop isn't actually fun. It's just a grind to get to the next funny bit.
Its not much more than a novelty, with the quality/depth of a Newgrounds game. Might be worth it if you want to support Fully Ramb-I mean Zero Punctuation.
Let's all laugh at an industry that never learns anything, tee hee hee.
You put on a hat! Simple as that! My second favorite hat-based game after TF2! ... The Escapist are idiots for letting this world-class comedian slip through their hands.
rest in piss escapist, cannot miss cause second wind exists
Is this game going to have tonnes of replay value? No. Will it keep you engaged for at least a little while to play through each of the mini-games? Probably. It's a fun little concept in the same way that cookie clicker is; a time waster to play when you don't really have the commitment for a proper title. You run left to right in hopes of catching a hat that descends from the heavens. Then the game starts to fight you and makes collecting these hats more of a challenge by adding in extra characters to blur your perception on who it is you're controlling. You, or possibly these additional characters, may be crushed or impaled should anyone happen to misstep and end up in the wrong place. The wizard will further add to this difficulty by altering reality, either by means of raining down slippery blood, or rotating your screen 180 degrees... Or, at least I think he rotates your screen, I can't be bothered to reinstall and find out. Appease him and he may grant you a boon. After you finish collecting a specific amount of hats, you are then able to do one of two things: Option 1 is to purchase an alter-ego from the store who will appear when clouding your screen. Option 2 is to redeem a gift that is periodically magnetised to the hat you have just caught. These gifts that you redeem are the core basis for keeping you engaged as they're what unlocks the mini-games. The mini-games are certainly whimsical, there's a hat dating simulator in full on Japanese style. Then there's the one where you hide in a tree, shoot a bear accountant, then take his place at work. There's also less intense gags like rolling down a hill at your desk to catch hats in a net and It's just dumb fun. If you liked Zero Punctuation and enjoy absurd comical things, then for £5 you may as well take a look. In conclusion: Where's your hat? You ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hatless ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
4/5 Very silly but fun and simple time waster game. It's full of gags and jokes you'd expect from a Zero Punctuation themed game
for a guy that keeps finding meaningless things to wince about on every game he plays he sure made a game that sucks ass
It is a fun game to just play when you need to listen to something but doing anything else will make you lose your train of thought and stop listening to the thing that you need to listen to. Maybe only applies to people with ADHD, like me.
The Hatfall game, created by Yahtzee Croshaw, retains the fundamental idea in its Steam version: players must catch a falling hat while navigating through decoys and hazards, with the challenge escalating as more characters fill the screen. This version introduces countdown mechanics, mini-games, achievements, and cosmetic hats. -Humor Atmosphere: The game offers humor and variety, featuring Easter eggs that encourage repeated play with its absurd premise and occasional comedic elements. However, it demonstrates minimal involvement from Yahtzee, lacking direct narration or satire, with humor appearing only in sporadic instances. -Gameplay: While it is easy to learn and remains engaging as the difficulty increases, players must catch hats and avoid hazards. Nevertheless, it suffers from a lack of depth, with limited gameplay variety beyond the hat-catching mechanic, resulting in a grindy experience due to slow progression and minimal rewards. Zero Punctuation: Hatfall stands out as a brief, quirky time-killer that holds nostalgic value for fans of Yahtzee; however, it does not provide a profound or enduring experience. It is best enjoyed by those who appreciate light distractions and absurdist humor, particularly during sales or as a novelty. I score this game 7 Stones out of 10 rock and stone.
