Spent ~50 hours on normal playthrough with Ys X Nordics. Now with Proud Nordics ~70 hours on hard and I absolutely love the game even more. Early game challenge can be super frustrating though. It gets much easier later in the story with higher level and newer skills that unlock. Skills in this game will let you enjoy power fantasy, entire screen wiping, that sort of stuff. The game starts off by letting you feel underpowered and then you become extremely powerful later with decent challenges lie in wait. Played on Linux Mint Debian Edition 7 with AMD GPU. Only audio crackling issue was found which is easily fixed by GE-Proton. I love this game so much. I'm looking forward to the next entry of Ys series.
Ausgezeichnetes Spiel ! YS für immer !
It's a solid Ys game, I personally like it more than Nox in terms of overall visual design and flow. My main gripe with the game would be the ship combat. And this is what this review will be about as I've got nothing interesting to say about the rest of the game lol It's, uh, well calling it "basic" would be a compliment. It's like the devs thought "pirates are cool!" and then had a week to implement the whole thing. If we look at another game that didn't need boats, that game being "Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii", then we can see what it feels like when the devs actually know how to implement a concept well. In Ys it feels wonky to control, there are no physics, the graphics take a nosedive during those sections (which is funny considering there is nothing to render) and the ocean is split into tiny sections. I guess this was due to the fact that the game released on the Switch as well, but we have AC3 running on that console and the boat combat there is miles above. For the next game I hope they either scrap the concept entirely or actually refine it into something that is engaging. But yeah other than that it's a great Ys game, especially if you didn't buy the other version first.
ys x proud nordics 10/10 great adventure and gameplay i like adol and karja interaction best duo
game sucks
It's good. First Ys game since 6 to drop the slash/bash/pierce combat system and replace it with an armor break system. Personally I prefer this system as it keeps the party to 2 people making it feel much more like Adol's adventure instead of a 6 person party, and the combat itself is less rock paper scissors. Most of the negative reviews seem to be about how the proud version only includes a small amount of extra content while being full price. It's definitely not ideal, but releasing a slightly enhanced version a few years later for full price is something falcom has been doing for years (Tokyo Xanadu EX+, PS4 version of Ys 8, the Kai versions of the trails games) so I don't really see why people are hating on proud Nordics specifically when this is basically common falcom practice. If you've never played Ys X before, buy this version. Is it worth it if you've already played the original version? Ehh, probably not, unless you're a diehard Ys/falcom fan
