If you liked Memories of Celceta then it's safe to say you're probably going to like Lacrimosa of Dana. For one thing, the narrative is significantly more developed, better conveying its raised stakes and regional lore than Celceta did. Moreover, the general gameplay experience, although mostly iterating on the same systems that Celceta had, is more expansive due to the much improved world geometry, introduction of raids and hunts, jumping, and improved QoL features (e.g. increased Adventure Item slots). Celceta's level design sometimes became quite monotonous because just about every environment was a series of winding corridors, but Lacrimosa of Dana consciously avoids this by using large rooms and verticality to keep things interesting. The only aspect of intentional game design where Ys 8 trends backwards is the crafting system, which was, for whatever reason, simplified considerably from Celceta. In Celceta, you could synthesise weapons and armour with different materials to confer specific bonuses, like an increased chance of inflicting elemental debuffs or lifesteal. Ys 8 does away with this in favour of an entirely linear upgrade system with no option for player customisation. You can still, in theory, inflict debuffs with specific accessories, but the build-up is so minimal on higher difficulties that it's not worth it. Lacrimosa of Dana's characters are generally archetypical with a few exceptions; but because even non-playable NPCs and castaways have some level of interaction in the form of sidequests, gift-giving and services, they're still fairly likeable. The game heavily incentivises building a rapport with these castaways as well, as their aforementioned services can be upgraded as a result. Moreover, you can get miscellaneous item rewards, stat bonuses and even different endings if you engage with Castaway Village sufficiently by getting high grades in Raids/Hunts and doing side quests. Combat requires that you get a good handle of Flash Dodge and Flash Guard so that you can both improve your own damage with guaranteed crits and slowed time, *and* your defence with i-frames. Enemies and bosses have more extensive movesets than their Celceta counterparts, which means there's more to look out for. Thankfully, the addition of jumping means that even seemingly impossible mobbing scenarios (e.g. simultaneously aggroing all the primordials in the Pangaia Plains night mission) can be finessed if you know what you're doing. Unfortunately, some enemies are still exceedingly broken no matter how much you've mastered the game's systems. For example, Bullfrodons in the Eroded Valley area are damage sponges that can–within a literal microsecond of aggroing them–pivot in place to face you and kill your entire party with an unblockable and undodgeable tongue grab (which has terrible horizontal hitboxes) before you've recovered from the animation of a single basic attack input. Many late-game enemies, like the Giesaur, Dandale and Parekhan also have obnoxious roars that stun every party member within a 35 metre radius that they will constantly abuse with no telegraph to get cheap hits on you when you've otherwise been playing perfectly. Even the true final boss is guilty of this, with the only difference being that its particular roar also inflicts the Paralysis debuff on you. Lacrimosa of Dana's OST is exceptional and amongst the best in the genre. "Eroded Valley", "Obscure Sentence", "A Slow and Deep Breath", "Neglected Temple", "Crevice of the Archeozoic Era", "Corridor of the Lost Ages", "Volitional Decision" – just about every other area has a catchy theme that reflects its respective mood and atmosphere perfectly. Even compared to another 2016 JRPG which released only a month after it, Tales of Berseria, I think Ys VIII is nominally better than it in every aspect aside from party member characterisation. And Tales of Berseria is also a great game, so that's saying a lot.
Imagine Expedition 33 se fosse bom
Finished it twice, first on PS4 and then the enhanced edition on PS5. The best Ys game — an awesome Robinson Crusoe-style adventure with fast and flashy combat, a gripping story, and likable characters.
This was my first YS game ever I had not been exposed to the franchise at all and wow. This game is genuinely peak and i'm not saying that lightly I REALLY enjoyed my time here the combat, story, characters, while I was skeptical at first I honestly loved every moment. Firstly the combat, it felt genuinely great i felt it was my #1 JRPG game combat system I have ever played, While simple there is diversity and you are well rewarded for playing good hitting a block or dodge felt wonderful with that 3s of iframe and dmg boot + you can do another and it stacks? genuinely peak. The game is spammy but in a good way I like pressing buttons and the game let me go wild + there's alot of diversity there is 6 playable characters(9 if you count the flashbacks) with atleast 10 skills each. I was able to rotate my playstyle whenever i wanted and never got tired of the combat at all. Definitely 9/10 if not 10/10 combat. The story, Look I was skeptical at first but 10 hours in and it clicked, There's tons of mystery and the plot goes from small to extremally HIGH stakes the plot from hour 1 to hour 40 is unrecognizable I wouldn't even think it was the same game. Every single character except 1(i'll get into that later) has a character "arc" or some type of development, even the randoms. It was great to see. With no spoilers I really liked the story trying to piece things together myself. The story successfully invoked emotion in me and was GENUNELY depressing at times but happy and funny at others. Just do all the side quests to get the true ending if not I heard you get a scuffed one. The characters have great chemistry and it was a treat seeing them interact the interactions felt genuine and like I said there is alot of development, I didn't find myself hating any characters each person had a place in the story. All but 1. Adol the main character. I dont know if this is a YS thing but Adol hour 1 is exactly the same as Adol hour 50 he has a story he has backstory but nothing happens with it, it seems he is just there to "adventure" and "save the day", he is a voiceless but not since he has voicelines in some random places but he will just nod his head or another character would talk for him. He felt like a disgrace to the entire cast having him there its really a shame, he has the strongest kit IMO and was the most fun to play so i cant really ignore him either. The progression is normal you find gear and the game really rewards you for exploring, it felt great just running around opening chests for loot, the gameplay loop of exploration and combat was fun. The Music is really good too. Ys8 is great and I would REALLY recommend it to anyone, just play it for a bit since the game doesn't pick up for a few hours. Its one of the best JRPGs i'd ever played.

Великолепная игра от начала и до конца. Геймплей затягивает, история трогает до глубины души, а музыка — это отдельная форма искусства. Я получил колоссальное удовольствие и ни капли не сожалею о потраченном времени.
