About

You Shouldn't Be Here is a short psychedelic visual novel that takes place in a strange world filled with harrowing creatures. You’ll meet Dimitriv who is willing to keep you safe as long as you help him with something.
The story touches on topics such as mental health, exclusion, and various other existential questions.
The gritty pixel-art, together with the somewhat erratic and despairing soundtrack, intends to create a dreamlike, bordering on nightmarish, atmosphere.

In the shape of the infinite, I am one.
Swallowed by an ocean of bliss.
No choices to be made,
no stories to unfold,
no riddles to solve.
No, nothing at all…

You really shouldn’t be here..

A webcomic disguised as a video game with its plot essentially being the Beat generation themed reading group session. Notable features: the streets of Interzone with its black meat dealers and mugwump dwellers; angel-headed hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night; and a cultural studies major larping as a sexual strangulation aficionado from the City of the Red Night. The psychological horror comes not from the "What. In. The. Actual. ♥♥♥♥" moments and associated MC's shocked exclamations repeated ad nauseam (I have commissioned more shocking furry watersports art, it's not a big deal), but from deep buried memories of having to converse with a 16yo just discovering counterculture. The reminder to finally erase pirated Throbbing Gristle CDs from my hard drive was eye-opening.
Technical details: Proton Experimental, 1 hour to 100%, 5 days of a certain emetic metabolic regulator to cure opiod addiction.
A game for the person of many faces who has lived in my DMs for the last twelve years.
The story was interesting .
i cried playing this btw

Mechanically, there's almost nothing going on: You wander; you watch; you listen. If you're expecting any action or big, narrative payoffs, you won't find them. What You Shouldn't Be Here does have is atmosphere. Some of the writing is cryptic and foreboding; none of the story is happy. For the hour or so you're here, you're in a psychedelic dystopian fever dream of despair. Its visual design does most of the heavy lifting: everything looks off and hostile and the buzzing, humming audio keeps that uneasiness going (though it never really escalates beyond "uneasy"). great story, a bit short but well worth the price i say. also its more of an interactive novel then a "game" which isn't a bad thing at all, just a matter of taste. it has big H.P Lovecraft vibes and i LOVED every moment of the very strange story. very well made for the price
i donmt think i should be here guys,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
You Shouldn't Be Here wpada bowiem w wiele schematów gatunku. Tematyka depresji i kryzysu w życiu? Check.
Very good soundtrack and art direction, the experience itself although touching on heavy topics was good too
