About

You Shouldn't Be Here is a short psychedelic visual novel that takes place in a strange world filled with harrowing creatures. You’ll meet Dimitriv who is willing to keep you safe as long as you help him with something.
The story touches on topics such as mental health, exclusion, and various other existential questions.
The gritty pixel-art, together with the somewhat erratic and despairing soundtrack, intends to create a dreamlike, bordering on nightmarish, atmosphere.

In the shape of the infinite, I am one.
Swallowed by an ocean of bliss.
No choices to be made,
no stories to unfold,
no riddles to solve.
No, nothing at all…

You really shouldn’t be here..

Very short but otherwise very beautiful in the message it wants to impart cause boy do i love horror waxing philosophical at me.
A short & sinister narrative experience! It was quite capitivating and in some ways whimsical, despite the haunting metaphors and dark themes. Can't quite describe this game but can say that was a unique and vivid experience for sure! If you like dark crawling narratives give this ago!
Developed and published by Doomster Entertainment, You Shouldn't Be Here is an indie psychological horror visual novel that confidently embraces the strange and the uncomfortable. Rather than presenting players with a conventional horror adventure filled with elaborate mechanics and branching outcomes, it delivers a brief but potent descent into an unsettling realm where every encounter feels deliberately out of place. The game's title serves as both a warning and a mission statement, immediately setting expectations for an experience built around alienation, uncertainty, and existential unease. The story begins with the player crossing paths with Dimitriv, a mysterious being who offers assistance in navigating a world populated by disturbing entities. From there, the narrative unfolds through cryptic conversations and surreal imagery, steadily revealing themes centered on isolation, self-destruction, and the fragility of the human psyche. Doomster Entertainment makes it clear that this is not a tale interested in straightforward answers. Instead, the game encourages players to interpret its symbolism and piece together meaning from fragmented dialogue and environmental details. The lack of traditional choices is a notable design decision, reinforcing the feeling that the player is merely passing through a place that neither welcomes nor acknowledges their presence. Artistically, the game excels at creating a memorable atmosphere. Its pixel art style combines retro sensibilities with grotesque designs that leave a lasting impression. The environments often feel dreamlike in the worst possible way, as if they were pulled from the corners of a troubled mind. Every screen contributes to the oppressive mood, while the soundtrack complements the visuals with haunting melodies and unnerving ambient effects. Together, these elements create an immersive experience that succeeds in generating tension without relying on cheap scares or excessive violence. One of the more admirable aspects of You Shouldn't Be Here is its willingness to tackle difficult subject matter. Themes involving mental health struggles, suicide, substance abuse, and emotional trauma are woven into the narrative in a way that feels intentional rather than exploitative. The game uses horror as a lens through which these topics are explored, presenting them as intrinsic parts of its world and characters. Players looking for a thoughtful psychological experience will likely appreciate the maturity of its writing, though those sensitive to such subjects should approach with caution due to the intensity of its themes. That said, the game's commitment to minimalism will not appeal to everyone. Its relatively short runtime means some ideas are introduced and left open to interpretation before they can be fully explored. Likewise, players expecting meaningful interaction or gameplay systems beyond reading and observation may find themselves wanting more. The experience is deliberately narrow in scope, prioritizing atmosphere and thematic storytelling over replayability or mechanical depth. However, this focused approach also allows the game to maintain a consistent tone from beginning to end. In many ways, You Shouldn't Be Here feels less like a traditional game and more like an interactive piece of horror fiction. It understands exactly what it wants to accomplish and remains committed to that vision throughout its runtime. While its abstract storytelling and limited player agency may divide audiences, its strong artistic direction and emotionally charged themes ensure that it stands apart from countless other indie horror releases on Steam. For players who enjoy surreal narratives, psychological horror, and experiences that invite reflection long after the credits roll, You Shouldn't Be Here is well worth exploring. It is a haunting reminder that some of the most effective horror stories are not about monsters lurking in the dark, but about confronting the uncomfortable truths that reside within ourselves. well, ♥♥♥♥... 10/10, im lost for words
I love the soundtrack when You're in Dimitriv's home Really atmospheric game Dimitriv's poem kinda remind me of Sleep Token lyrics but that's my hot take
Very cool visuals, music, and design in general. The aesthetics are amazing. The writing was good but became to on the nose, repetitive, and edgy as the game went further. The writing could have done with less as the poems and the imagery convey the theme well enough. The repetitiveness, and edginess spoil the themes. I didn't like the trope of the looser stoner being far beyond everyone else especially the sheep like religious consumerist folk -as the stoners go to kill themselves mind you. This flaw of the addict being closer to God than everyone else whilst also constantly consenting to self destructive behaviour then the hand waving of any improvement of the self poisons the games theme. The game is better than anything I'll ever create however and is well worth the price.
i cried playing this btw
