You Can Kana - Learn Japanese Hiragana & Katakana

Great game for learning Hiragana and Katakana. If you're new to Japanese learning or you just want to get faster at reading characters, I can't recommend this game highly enough. There's not much to it. You learn to write the character a few times, then you play a timed typing game where you read the words on the screen and type them as quickly as possible. The game is well paced and organized. If you finish the game, which shouldn't take more than 10 or 15 hours at most, you will be able to read Japanese. You won't know what any of the words mean, but that is another hurdle for another game.

Very useful game if you are learning Japanese. Must have especially during sales event, good for gifts!

Good up to a point. For example, it forces you to *always* do specific types of typing for Hiragana or Katakana characters. For example, say you want to do something like ｯﾄﾞ You could normally do that with "xtsu" and "do" but instead the only way it'll let you move on to do other parts is if you enter "ddo". Both are valid but it gets annoying trying to force you to use one specific method only where it'll block you from doing anything else until you've done it that specific way. Also, tracing the kana with the mouse cursor gets annoying. Especially when you have to repeat it multiple times.

2025.12.24 之前就全成就了，来补个评测。 1.关于全英文：个人认为全英文不影响游玩。 教程他想表达的我都能看懂，打字闯关的时候有些英语单词太难反而能让我更加专注于五十音本身。 之后我会继续学日语，也会学英语。所以对我来说，之后反而可以同时练到英语和日语。 2.关于全成就：我无法给出准确的全成就的预估时间，因为玩爽了。额外花了很多时间。 10000分的成就有三种：hiragana、katakana、JLPT 我认为katakana最难，JLPT最简单。 3.关于游戏：画面简洁，好玩，适合学习。拜托，边玩边学习很酷诶 ！ 个人对画面简单的游戏接受度较高，且，学习类游戏设置的没那么花哨更适合沉浸在学习环境中，我注重的是游戏内容本身。 而且打字闯关可以解锁一些游戏背景，有一些在视觉上可以让人更清醒专注于内容本身。 --- 2025.12.05 喜欢反复刷被拷打的感觉，五十音水平提升了。之前会弄混的也发现了。 我要速速解锁JLPT，继续拷打自己。 --- 2025.12.02 - 现实中红轴机械键盘手指敲击键盘的声音+限时挑战答对的音效+听歌=音游 简直是一种享受。 - 一边敲击跟着节奏敲击键盘，一边视线余光瞄着限时挑战倒计时读条在减少还有一种刺激感。 - 刷的时候发现了自己不能随便拎出来就能马上意识到读音的假名

[h2] TL;DR [/h2] This game is a type racer memory game that forces you to learn a specific symbol's romaji equivalent. I think that's valuable because it will enable me to begin learning words by reading manga so overall I recommend the game. There's no quick way to learn this, at some point you just have to roll up your sleeves and get to work. This game helps in that it is just a tool that fire hoses these symbols down your throat. [h3] What The Game Does [/h3] I haven't used the Katakana or JLPT sections but based off the Hiragana section you will learn the symbols and their romaji equivalent. The game itself is essentially 4 parts; 1. Symbol introduction. 2. Quiz/review. and 3. A type racer test that combines the newly learned symbols and some of the previous ones. The 4th part is an overall type racer challenge that effectively lets you review the entirety of what you've learned. [h3] Before You Start Using This Program [/h3] This should not be your only source for learning hiragana/katakana and is not something I would recommend starting off with. Print out some hiragana/katakana worksheets and practice writing the symbols while saying them out loud. Try to mimic the correct pronunciation every time you write a symbol and work through them in order e.g,.. a, i, u, e, o. Ka, Ki, Ku, Ke, Ko, etc,.. once you've done that come back to this. [h3] Negatives [/h3] The main downsides of this program are; 1, Showing the stroke order for how to write the symbols. Most people are not going to be writing these symbols with their mouse. 2. The pronunciation is not strongly reinforced, the symbols are only spoken once or twice but you easily type them 20-30 times. Hearing the sound as you see the symbol/type the romaji would make this so much better and easier to learn.
