About
There's no business like magic business. Time to set up shop in an idyllic small town in a medieval land filled with fairy tale magic, Discworld-esque comedy, and pop-fantasy cliches. Start small, and grow your business as your fame reaches new customers. If you think running a store is easy and somewhat dull - think again! This is no mundane supermarket. This is an establishment of miracles and wonder! Fill your shelves with magical merchandise and adjust the prices for optimal profit, while making sure your quirky clientele can still afford it. Expand your shop, add shelves, and organize your wares to attract customers!
The alchemy workshop above your store is where the real magic happens, and where you can make the most profit. Master the alchemical arts and brew potions worth their weight in gold. Fill your grimoire with formulas for useful concoctions through research and experimentation. Each ingredient has its unique properties - mash them in the mortar, mix with water and spirits, boil them in your cauldron while stirring carefully. Your elixirs will make a good coin when sold in your shop, but there's even more money to be made on custom orders. Sometimes, a customer will come with a problem only an alchemist can solve!
Good alchemical ingredients aren't that hard to come by or as expensive as one might think, while bought in bulk from the vendor across the street. But they're even cheaper if you grow them yourself! Fill your backyard with plants and mushrooms that hold all sorts of arcane qualities - from relieving bad gas to unraveling the fabric of reality. Make sure to always keep some extra planters of all sizes if you come by a rare seed while browsing your suppliers wares. Do you have a green thumb? Just remember to water your crops - they're the key to your future fortune!
As you gain wealth and experience, you will unlock new skills, options, and access to some more extravagant wares delivered to you from the farthest reaches of the realm through a network of travelling merchants. Some of the items will blow your mind (no, really - handle the Fire Wands with extreme care!). You'll also be able to buy some extra furnishing for your establishment, rare ingredients for your potions, and seeds to get your garden going. Keep an eye on lucrative wares, buy low, sell high and make sure to delight your clientele!

Not mind blowing, and should be fine with old graphics cards like a GTX 1050.
Map & Town
There are very few different NPC's in the game. You will see the same characters coming to buy from your shop all the time (maybe about six or so), just with different clothes, and often not. Generally only about three people in your shop at a time. The town, actually a village, is very small, takes a few seconds before you hit the invisible wall outside the village. There are some hidden items to find here and there, requests to deliver, and a few garden ingredients to be picked, but no other reason to roam the extremely small village.
Music:
Nothing fantastically good or bad about the music. It fits the medieval fantasy graphics and doesn't really call attention to itself. Just fits into the background. After a few hours I switched it off and had Youtube playing in the background for more entertainment. However, that was not owing to the music being terrible, there were other reasons as to why I moved on to other background things to stop me from shooting myself.
Story:
As much as there is a plot to start you off, there is really no reason to bother with it. Follow the tutorial and get going with your shop. You could remove the story and not even notice it. There are nonsense messages (mail in your postbox) you receive now and then, but I think they are just meant to be funny. There are quests in the game, given to you by a few of the NPC's. They are supposed to be humorous, I guess. All quests involve making a potion for someone, while sometimes you can get a delivery order. The delivery quests are just a pain, I prefer to just keep the stock to sell in my shop.
Gameplay:
Everything revolves around your shop. 1. Buy seeds and plant pots. Grow the seeds and harvest the plants. 2. Stock your shelves with items to sell to the town folk. 3. Selling involves an old abacus type device in which it calculates the change and you give it to the customer. Very basic system, it is fine, albeit repetitive. 4. Brew potions for quests and selling in your shop.
The GRIND. Damn, the grind.
Shop Grind: Buying and stocking items is a grind. Buy from the merchant across the street. Then you must go across the street for each box and pick it up before you either add it to a shop shelf or put it in your storage. Each item box must be disposed of in the fire. If you purchase 30 items from the merchant, you must go 30 times to pick up each item, run back to your shop, place it, throw the box the item came in into the fire, then go back across the road to get the next box. 30 times! Most Shop Sim games will make your life easier as you upgrade, with a helper or assistant. Not here. Come on devs, give me someone or some magic thing to carry those darn boxes. Please. Garden Pot Grind: If you buy ten pots for small seeds from the merchant, you have to take each pot to your garden, place it in your garden, and then go into your shop to dispose of the wooden box the pot came in. Then go pick up the next pot from the merchant. Never can you carry more than one plant pot. Thoughout the game, I bought about 120 small, medium and large pots for planting my seeds. That is 120 times I had to go and pickup each pot, go back to the garden, place it, burn the box it came in, and then go get another one. Do it all over again. In the world of magic, you would THINK there was some magic to move your products around! Come on devs? Garden Watering Grind: Plants must be watered so they don't wither and die. Small plants must be watered usually once. Medium about once or twice, and large plants two or three times. This can be quite annoying to do, and sometimes I was doing it more just to make sure I was not caught out. The game eventually provides an upgrade to give you irrigation. This provides about one automatic watering event as the plants are about to wither. Here is the fun fact... this upgrade only comes as the last garden upgrade. As of this review, only 6% of all players in this game have actually endured the game to that point (according to the global Steam achievements guide). So the vast majority will never get a whiff of the moderately helpful upgrade. This upgrade should come sooner. Even then, the upgrade still won't stop your large plants from withering as they have to be watered multiple times which the auto irrigation system fails to do. Potions: Potion making is repetitive, but is quite fun. However, after a while you get tired of only being able to make one potion at a time, but you will only feel this annoyance about mid game. An upgrade is provided which will make potion crafting extremely easy, however, the fast brewing or crafting upgrade comes literally at the end of the game when you reach max level! Most players never reach this. The game also does not tell you if you have made a potion with fast crafting! You get the ability to fast craft a potion, you click the button to fast craft, nothing happens. Maybe it is broken? No notification, no audio click, nothing. So you click again. Actually, it is working fine, but you have no idea that each click is crafting a potion and it goes into your storage. Devs, please let players know that something indeed has happened!
Conclusion:
Yeah, I completed the game so you don't have to put yourself through a grind fest. The game throws out constant completed achievements keeping you hooked and making progress as you drag yourself along. So, in a nutshell, Alchemist Shop Simulator is a pleasant looking fantasy game. While somewhat humorous at times, it sucks you into a very repetitive game loop, where you are continually juggling shelves, selling, sewing seeds and running around watering plants, which becomes a complete drag. Enjoy it or not.
It's... OK. I bought the game when it was on sale, but even at 50% off, it's very... eh. The alchemy/Potionmaking is fun, but the sales stuff is repetitive. Same exact products, nothing new seemed to unlock besides Potions, and you make like 1 potion at a time. I wanted to like this, because I love these types of games, but there are so many others that do this better.
The gameplay loop is rather simple. But stuff from merchant, sell in shop. You can make potions that sell for a lot, or grow plants. Aaand... that's pretty much it. The trailer makes it seem like you can find stuff in the wild but... there are very few things to be found. Frankly, its a rather simple and dull take on the shopkeeping genra that promises more then it delivers.
This is the second time I'm trying to start playing, and the game is stuck on learning quests. The quests just won't complete. I'm tired of trying to play it.
I put about six hours into this game because, honestly, mind-numbing monotony is usually my thing. But this one crosses the line from “relaxing grind” into straight-up frustrating. Progression is almost nonexistent. Your garden and shop get a little bigger, but you don’t. Your speed never improves, your watering doesn’t get better, and the upgrades are effectively useless because you’re trapped in an endless loop of restocking and watering. That loop consists of running back and forth over and over between the merchant and your base, carrying one to four items at a time. Rinse. Repeat. Forever. Meanwhile, plants wilt at an absurd rate. Miss watering them multiple times a day and they’re done. They even wilt while you sleep, which makes sleeping completely pointless. There’s no benefit to resting, and doing so actively punishes you because your plants decay while you’re unconscious. Potion making is fun at first, but it quickly hits the same wall. The only real advancement is unlocking new potions, yet you can still only craft them one at a time, making the system feel shallow and artificially slow. I wanted to like this. But the lack of meaningful upgrades, punishing plant mechanics, and repetitive back-and-forth gameplay turn what could’ve been a cozy grind into an exhausting chore.
The game itself is okay, but it’s a whole different story when you lose your save file. Support won’t come to the rescue, because some people have already been waiting half a year and the owner hasn’t exactly been eager to help. In my opinion, the updates and changes being made right now feel more like “just to have something” rather than actual improvements. The game had really great potential, but it got ruined in favor of other projects, and I strongly feel it’s more about money than about giving players any real enjoyment. What’s even worse is that you can’t get your money back. Honestly, developers should face some kind of consequences for abandoning a game like this, or at the very least there should be refunds in such cases. I definitely don’t recommend the support. As for the game itself, it’s hard to judge — everyone has to decide for themselves. I own it, but after losing my save, just like many other players, I have no desire to start over and go through all the grinding again. Especially since at some point the gameplay becomes monotonous — everything is bought and upgraded, so the game gets boring and eventually gets shelved. But hey, at least the money keeps rolling in. That’s my personal take. The first two hours were fun because it was something new, but the further I went, the worse it got :D
Skip this one. Even as a connoisseur of Unity jank, this game is more jank than fun. Making potions is just following a specific recipe; and the game doesn't get meaningfully different as you progress. You're just unlocking upgrades for upgrades' sake. Better play Shoppe Keep 2 or something to get your chill game fix. Else you're gonna be stuck counting out change far longer than you'd like.
At first glance it's just another cookie cutter shop sim built entirely from assets. But that's just how you make your money in the very early game. The meat and bones is the potion crafting, which is delightfully detailed and feely. There's a few tricks and mechanics that the tutorial doesn't really explain well, like that you can forage plants for free if you explore the map and that you can sell potions on your shelves if you don't have any orders to fill. It's not amazing, it won't be winning any awards, but it's a good way to pass the time for the price tag.
if you're into simulation games, and Magic as a concept in gaming, this will probably interest you. Get it on sale for less than 10 bucks and you cant go wrong. It's a cozy game with a magical twist. It can get a bit repetitive at times, but such is life for a simulation game. I would have had a little more fun with the lore had this been in a more modern setting, but it for SURE gives you the classic fantasy vibe.
