'Tis a good game.
Great story, Dragon engine's combat system though is worse than seeing Nikocado Avocado's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Wish meaningful actions during in-fights cutscenes had more quick time events, otherwise it makes u feel more like a spectator than the player
A nice conclusion to the Kiryu Saga :) I really enjoyed Yakuza 6, it built upon Yakuza 5 in a really nice way while having a really interesting and intriguing story that tied almost every loose end relatively well. I found the story to be overall pretty good, there were some parts that were a bit odd or didn't make that much sense but they weren't too common. It's also just a classic case of Yakuza stories not really making too much sense until you finally uncover the big mystery at the end of the game. All the characters introduced in Yakuza 6 are pretty lovable as well :) I really liked them by the end. The new location of Onomichi is probably up there of my favourite locations in the entire Yakuza series, It's genuinely so beautiful :) A quiet town with great scenery and an interesting and unique design. I do however wish that it had just a bit more stuff to do. Funnily enough a Mahjong parlour would've fit the Onomichi vibe perfectly (Also I've finally started to try and learn a bit of Mahjong and it only took me 7 games to try it out) I also really like the Dragon Engine, I know that its kinda controversial but overall I think its an improvement, the character models look so expressive and pretty and Yakuza 6's Kamurocho is the most beautiful its ever looked, on par with Yakuza 0's Kamurocho. The addition of a smartphone is so convenient, it makes the act of navigating menu's so much easier and even enjoyable. Having a camera is also pretty nice as well lol. I found myself taking quite a lot of photo because it was just pretty fun. Yes the physics are a bit all over the place but it's also kinda funny just watching a guy fly in the air after hitting them once lol. In conclusion I think this game is genuinely great and is probably my one of my favourite Yakuza games so far and is tied with Yakuza 0 for first place. I love Kiryu so much and I'm glad he got a well done send off.
When he was writing that letter and it ended up being for Daigo oh my god. :(( I love them all so much.
I would 100% recommend playing Yakuza 6 :)
Yakuza 6 sits in a weird position. It's basically the first game that's made with the Dragon Engine and it shows that the devs aren't really used to it. If you have played the series in numbered order (which is what most PC gamers will have done, since the originals are near impossible to find) you'll notice that Kiwami 2 is much of an improvement than this game. Graphically it looks somehow better and worse than the previous entry. Better, because you can see a lot of amazing details and textures. Worse, because it's in this weird saturated color scheme that somehow sucks the life out of the Yakuza-series. Something that I always loved is how Kamurocho looked so alluring and vivid in nightlife, but absolutely a place you never wanted to be during the day. Now Kamurocho looks like a hospitable place both day and night. Also, everything feels much more emptier. Gambling and the Colosseum are surprisingly absent here, despite being in every previous iteration. And while the neighborhood in Hiroshima is supposed to be so small, you can't help but feel how empty it is. And as much as I like the sub-stories, some are a bit... I don't know, weird, even for Yakuza. The one with the girl from the future or Kiryu battling ghosts. There has always been a supernatural bent to some sub-stories, but only the player knew about it, not the main characters. It also doesn't help that the overall story feels like it's recycling a whole lot of plot points from 1 and 3. And yet, despite all that, I found myself enjoying it a lot! It speaks to the strength of the Yakuza-franchise that you can still get sucked inside the story, despite having some flaws. I never get tired of its sincerity and its goofiness. Despite me complaining, I loved the mini-game stories here. It always opens up the world and characters. Kiryu being baseball-captain or having to make friends with frequent bar patrons opens the door to new people and stories you get to meet. And that's why Yakuza is my favorite series. Despite its smallness, the world always feels big and intricate. Plus I might like this story more than I let on. Even with its faults, Yakuza is still Yakuza and I enjoy every entry in it. Until I get to Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. I decided to not continue the series afterwards (looking at you, Yakuza Kiwami 3).
