Very complex game, takes very long to learn but once you do it becomes a time sink
Absolutely amazing space simulation game. I have almost 1,000 hours in this game, and I can say for certain that it was the best 1,000 hours of my life. The sheer dedication and commitment the developers of this game have poured into this project is something to be admired. The attention to detail, the constant updates, bug fixes and always listening to their supporters - it's something I wish more development teams did. The economy is probably one of the more in-depth systems in a game I've seen. Is there a steep learning curve? Sure, if you're getting into something like this for the first time, but the pay-off of learning all the systems, managing your sectors and reputation, managing your logistics guys and making sure they don't get picked off by pesky pirates, it's something you can't quite put into words. The UI does take a bit of getting used to... there's a lot of menus, interactions (especially with ships), and making sure each one of your ships/ fleets have the correct order. Ships (mostly capital) also used to (haven't tested recently) have a bit of an issue where they would sometimes kamikaze straight into the direct line of fire of the stations they were trying to destroy, rather than staying at and maintaining long range and using long-range weapons to do the work. Defending yourself against the Xenon and the base building... oh my god... I love the station construction. Every module, every piece coming together. Total control to build things however and where ever you want, whenever you want. Watching your constructors working away, watching it materialise - being able to land on and walk around everything you've built. The combat feels fluid, especially since the flight model update came out and I can safely say it feels amazing - capital ships feel like they have the weight they deserve... slow and intentional, and the fighters are fast, mobile, hard to hit and deadly in swarms if you like that sort of thing. I love the way the Boron carriers deploy their fighters and the whole Boron storyline. THE LORE. There's a literal encyclopaedia inside the game. I would 1000% recommend this game to anyone looking for an immersive experience. And even if you don't, the best feature about this game is that it's fully simulated!! Factions fighting other factions, politics, each one trying to keep themselves alive, each one with a different demand in resources to fully exploit for your fanatical gain!! :D Want your own, fully self-sustaining economy? This game has that. Want complete universal domination? Yep! Want to sit back and simply enjoy the view? The game is more than happy to play itself. The truest, best form of a space sandbox/ space simulation game ever made. I can't wait for what they do with the game next. Thank you Egosoft, from the bottom of my heart, for making the game I've always dreamt about come to life. <3

Still befuddled and confused much of the time. But I keep coming back to LEARN MORE!
Very worth its price. It is no easy game to get into or understand the scale you can operate this game on. You don't need to play a way you don't want to. You want a personal story with one ship or a small fleet. You do you. You can pirate, trade, mine become a mission runner no problem. You want to scale up have fleets with capital ships in different sectors. Become a Tycoon with own factories floating in space. No problem. You want combine both playstyles? Also, no problem, you can switch back and forth thanks to automation and Station managers. You want a factory but don't want to mine, also no problem just buy stuff or outsource the mining to your station manager. You decide, every choice have pros and cons. If you don't control direct it will probably not be as efficient as if you do it on your own. But if you are let’s say a terrible trader the AI will do it better. Never on the level of a veteran player but always better then a new player with no experience in the field. And that is in all departments. The new update 9.0 improved all aspects of the game. The fighting is on a whole new level. Is it perfect? No, but if you just imagen on what a scale this game is running and doing all in the background. This is nothing but impressive. If you only focus on one aspect of the game in detail the game will always have shortcomings to a competitor that focus only on that gameplay loop. But
there is no package today that combines all of the game loops on a okay ++ level like X4.
C'est pas du Nintendogs.
Best use of Germany's economic incentive funds.
Been a fan since I first played X3 back in 2005. Very immersive game with so much to do. X4 has come a long way since it first launched, with Egosoft constantly updating and improving the game with free content updates and paid DLCs, all of which have been worth paying for, and they're not done yet. Put 1000 hours in and just starting a new playthrough now, game is addicting. If you're looking for a space sim where you can fly ships and also manage a galactic empire, look no further.
It's a big learning curve...but I think it will be worth it. I look forward to being good at this!!!
