not sure if even the developers know how to interact with this thing. its definitely not a playable game.
coming back to this game in 2026 was like shooting myself in the head
Imagine EVE Online mixed with Elite Dangerous mixed with Star Citizen but single player. Its geopolitics and economics but in space. I guess astropolitics? The way that the economy, trade, factions, wars, etc. are all simulated in real time and affect gameplay is incredible. I've never felt a single player game this alive before, even 4X games. (X4 > 4X in some ways). At first I didn't like the fact that each sector is only a few hundred kilometers, and not a full star system. But seeing the trading ships go by is amazing atmosphere.
Worst experience of any space game i've ever had. Flying around for 12 hours to do the first 3 quests - The navigation took me on a detour through the universe instead of reaching neptune in 2 jumps, it took 12 (for a new player overwhelming); - The construction of the research base has zero ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ explaination for anything; - Im flying around for a literal hour to find a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ construction ship. ♥♥♥♥ this.
> Join the Terrans, support their economy, find out you are their economy. > Baby sit Hatvika, receive no thanks because the closest station that wasn't deleted by an I is 30.1km away, obviously. > Set up your own basic resources production, slowly ramp up to have your own shipyard and make a run ending amount of cash. By the time you get there you have so many Khaak up your mining ships' thrusters, you forget about selling anything and build each miner his own death ball fleet instead. > Start a quick game to play the HOP storyline, it's been 50hours, progress 0%, you have yet to get to a HOP gate. > When you're through with the gate network there's always SWI. + See that thing you don't, like, someone made a mod for it. + Edit a bunch of XML after seeing a guide, you've made a mod for it. The Bad. + The AI is absolutely retarded sometimes - As time goes on more and more of the AI is yours + There are mods for this - Mods can only do so much, there is no AI to fix, just a pile of scripts. > Eventually you get to a point where your PC can't handle the 100.000 entities moving around anymore. + Your own expansion is probably to blame (What's the hour count like on that save, be honest.). - Sometimes you get a strong incentive to let the game run during the night + There are mods for that (You were doing it to yourself anyway).
Great sandbox game that allows you to go about things at your own pace, Main strength X4 offers is the simulation of the logistics chain. Every good is simulated and has a purpose. I.e if you are a pirate and case a hauler to see what goods hes carrying - those goods were actually mined by npc miner ship at some point, brough to refining and possibly hauled to some other station to aid in one of many productions chains this game has to offer. Every npc ship pilot in this game is doing some assignment for some npc station that belongs and follows order for some npc faction, none of what you see is just for show. Before long, you end up building your own stations and production chains, competing against npc markets. Eventually you end up running your own military industrial complex, you can try and conquer everything, you can profit by supplying goods to both factions that are at was with each other, or focus on eliminating rogue AI threat that are slowly building up their forced in the corners of gate network (gamemap), Or you can just ignore all of that and mine some rocks, be a merc or a pirate and do some generic quests or poorly written and voice acted story missions,
why did you have to ruin your game with ai
Mostly impossible
